To ask if you have medium to long length hair what you do with it to sleep

I'm clearly dim and missing a trick despite having the same hair cut for nearly 40 years. Not far below shoulder length wavy hair. Thanks to young kids, my hair in the day is nearly always in a claw grip clip to get it away from my face. At night I let it down because I obviously can't sleep with a clip, but my god my hair pisses me off. In the summer, unbearable, sticks to me. Last night, tickles me. And I wake up looking like a mess. Don't do hairbands as they leave a kink, or if left loose, fall out. I always shower in the evening, let it dry naturally. I am up and down all night with the kids, and also toss and turn A LOT so anything that requires me to sleep (spooned) gracefully like a movie star is absolutely out of the question. But I'm kind of sick of waking up looking like I haven't washed or brushed it. Also showers in the morning would be impossible. Oh and I have the technical skill with anything hair and make up as a donkey with boxing gloves 😁

Thanks I'm advance!

Silke bonnet
Amazing
Your hair will shine!
Ignore the poster above who sarcastically denounced bonnet wearing

Fahran · 07/09/2024 22:46

Long curly hair. Nothing. I just go to bed.

ShiftySquirrel · 07/09/2024 22:46

I put mine in a loose top knot.
For some reason (... probably my age...) I find myself unbearably hot at night, every night, and having loose hair is hot, tickly and itchy.

I tend to shower and wash my hair mine in the morning, then stick it in a bun for work (with small kids) so the kinks don't show - and if they do small kids don't judge too harshly.

I don't think very short hair would suit me it would be tempting otherwise. But I've had my hair bobbed before. Whilst it looks nice, the first thing I do is get clips in it to keep it away from my face.

MrsBungle · 07/09/2024 22:47

High bun. I cannot stand sweaty hair when I’m sleeping. I’d rather sort it in the morning than sleep with it down.

Thistooshallpass24 · 07/09/2024 22:49

Home bargains are selling invisibobbles ( like landline phone coils) from 59p plain clear ones, ponytail booster (!?) beaded, teddy fabric and possibly more designs they are meant to not leave a kink in your hair (?) I prefer the dragged through a hedge look!
I can't believe I spelled "invisibobbles" but not "the" !

ColonelRhubarbBikini · 07/09/2024 22:50

Another vote for a silk sleep bonnet. Total game changer. Sometimes if I need to look particularly nice I use those heatless curler efforts that you can sleep in and then pop my bonnet on over the top.

I don’t get too hot but if I sleep with my hair down it tickles me funny and then I shit myself thinking there’s a spider in the bed 😱.

TomatoSandwiches · 07/09/2024 22:51

@TheHateIsNotGood I have a few different ones, the first one was a traditional style from an easy seller that kept slipping off so I got a few different ones for Christmas last year, some from Silke and Lilysilk but my fave is from Silk & Wave turban style and the Cantu wrap from boots is pretty good as well.

Isn’t sleeping with a bonnet on a bit hot when the weather is warm?

Pigeonqueen · 07/09/2024 22:53

I just sleep with it loose. Can’t stand anything in or on my head.

I don’t find it hot at all. If anything the silk feels cooling.

UnNiddeRides · 07/09/2024 22:55

I’m also getting Ena Sharples vibes!

OneTC · 07/09/2024 22:56

OH puts hers in a loose plait

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 07/09/2024 22:57

My hair isn't particularly long but when it's hot I put it in two low bunches so that the elastic is a few inches below my ears and against the slimmest part of my neck so it doesn't irritate if I lie on my back or my side.

I thought about a silk pillowcase but always thought it would look odd on the bed..I mean we buy sets but maybe we're just old fashioned / cheap!

When I make the bed I put my silk pillow on the bottom and the matching pillow on top, when I go to bed I flip them. I have curly hair and whilst I still wake up looking far from polished it's definitely reduced tangling/breakage I can't wear a bonnet I tried but I think I must get hot in the night and take it off

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 07/09/2024 22:59

A sleep bonnet? This is reminiscent of the poster who wanted a sex hat !

UmaNipples · 07/09/2024 23:00

Anything silk must just slide right off your hair though no? How are you securing this bonnet?! My silk eye mask shoots off the back of my head constantly in the night which drives me nuts.

Might not look great but really helps smooth hair down. Works well on mine (mid back) and never tangles overnight now.
Jasmin silk does good ones and they’re not too expensive.

Dibbydoos · 07/09/2024 23:01

Why don't you have a short cut?

I'm the same, had short hair most of my life - easy cooling etc

Grown it to below shoulder length and it drives me nuts! Straightened every day cos it's got an ugly wave about it (it's dead straight when short 🙄) and at night either a scrunchy or I tuck it round the side I'm not sleeping on. It seems to stay there, I don't move around much (I assume).
I'm thinking of visiting vidal sassons academy in London and telling them to give me something that suits me!

mynameiscalypso · 07/09/2024 23:02

Do people's heads not slide off silk pillowcases?

mrsfollowill · 07/09/2024 23:04

I stick mine in a low pony tail- cannot stand waking up with hair flopping about- in v hot weather it goes in a pineapple on top of my head out of the way. Not the most attractive but IDGAF I need to be comfy.

MiddleClassProblem · 07/09/2024 23:07

I can’t sleep with bonnet, braids or a scrunchie. I loosely tuck it over the top and under my pillow. Sometimes if it’s more unruly I give a twist before the tuck but I can’t have it tight or pulling so it’s a loose twist not close to my head.

Stirmish · 07/09/2024 23:07

I plait mine

Flopsy145 · 07/09/2024 23:08

I just do a long plait, ideally with a silk scrunchie although my toddler seems to have hidden them 😂 but brush and plait, even if wet. I've heard sleeping on a silk pillowcase is the best thing.

Do people's heads not slide off silk pillowcases?

I have a Tempur pillow which is sort of ‘grippy’ underneath the case. But I have used on other pillows and my head is in the same place come the morning.

ThinWomansBrain · 07/09/2024 23:10

Nothing!
I just wet my hair every morning & add more curl cream/spray if it needs it and let it dry naturally.
I co wash it about once a week
