I am due any day now and I'm not expecting to be coming home in my pre pregnancy jeans and as I have a very large bump, I'm not expecting it to disappear into thin air.
I've lived in floaty maternity sundresses for the last few months.
So what did you wear to hide the postpartum belly while getting back to shape?
D like to get a few things to prepare.

My husbands hoodies, T-shirts, my own band t shirts and leggings

DustyLee123 · 07/09/2024 08:27

I wore my maternity pants and a roomy top for BF

LoyalCrab · 07/09/2024 08:27

I wore my maternity leggings and some yoga pants from Sainsbury’s. My maternity jeans were too big after about 3 days and I bought a cheap pair of jeans the next size up and they did the trick. However, my maternity leggings I could wear until my LG was 2 and I regret nothing 😂. I tended to wear more loose style/floaty tops as well.

FanofLeaves · 07/09/2024 08:28

I carried on wearing my maternity clothes in the first few weeks which had been dresses and floaty tops sometimes with leggings underneath. I wasn’t trying to hide a postpartum belly or get back into shape, I was just being, with a new baby. Leggings stuck around and the weather went colder, with loose tops above those.

TheGlitterFairy · 07/09/2024 08:28

Summer baby here so long maxi dresses while recovering from c section so nothing pressing on the scar, then jump suits, loose shorts / tops

Muchtoomuchtodo · 07/09/2024 08:28

Big pants and my maternity tops and trousers for a few days.

i soon got back into my normal trousers but were bf tops fur a while while we got the hang of that

Wonderwall23 · 07/09/2024 08:30

I was really lucky that I was mostly bump and it went down really quickly. But even so I think I still wore my elasticated maternity jeans for weeks after. The main thing I think is that if you're planning to breastfeed that you wear something with easy access! Doesn't need to be a full blown maternity top necessarily.

ETA forgot to add big pants! And plenty of maternity pads. I didn't realise how long you need them for.

mynameiscalypso · 07/09/2024 08:30

I stayed in some of my maternity clothes for a while (mainly leggings/jeans). I'm not pregnant or postpartum but I've just bought some knit ribbed trousers from Uniqlo that are so comfy that I think I would have loved those when DS was a newborn.

StuckOnTheCeiling · 07/09/2024 08:34

I liked a new pair of maternity leggings - I had a c section so don’t know whether there’s any difference in how your middle feels, but I felt much more comfortable with some level of support/compression over my stomach and new unstretched leggings provided that!

But you don’t need to hide your postpartum belly! It’s part of having a baby, nothing to hide.

ViciousCurrentBun · 07/09/2024 08:34

1st time smug little me my pre pregnancy jeans and second time literally an 8 man tent. I would just take something that doesn’t have a restricted waist so elasticated or a dress.

qazxc · 07/09/2024 08:36

Maternity leggings , granny pants( because they went high and didn't press on c section scar)and dress combo.

Struggling1981 · 07/09/2024 08:37

Maternity leggings and a dress - I bought large cotton knickers and a maternity bra. And the obligatory giant pad between my legs lol!

ru53 · 07/09/2024 08:37

Maternity joggers, maternity/breastfeeding tops. Maxi dresses if I was leaving the house and needed something not covered in breast milk/baby vomit/baby wee. And definitely big comfy pants if you have a vaginal delivery. Comfort is key, depending on your delivery you may have stitches in various places so soft fabrics are best. Go easy on yourself and don’t try to do too much post partum - I did and it delayed my recovery.

notacooldad · 07/09/2024 08:38

I can't remember exactly but I had a lovely French Connection dress all ready to wear. I tried to put it on in the hospital but it wouldn't go near me. I thi.k I had thoughts that I would have looked like Pri cess Di. Dh had to rush home to get me some jog bottoms or something so I could leave. It wasn't the look I wanted and rook me another three weeks before I could wear rhe dress. I finally wore it to push the pram around the park!

DreadPirateRobots · 07/09/2024 08:39

Yoga pants, and all my outfits in the first 6 months were based around h&m breastfeeding tanks, with a loose shirt or something over.

Gabby82 · 07/09/2024 08:40

Leggings, vest and baggy top...exclusively....for about 9 months postpartum!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 07/09/2024 08:40

It was 18 years ago and I was a smug early twenties whippersnapper and I came home in my size 8 skinny jeans and a cream jumper. I don’t know what I was thinking.

Porridgeislife · 07/09/2024 08:41

Leggings. Soft and comfortable and felt good over my section scar.

If you plan to breastfeed then I wore nursing vests, button up shirts and cardigans on top until I’d figured it out. Dresses that are shirred over the bust are also great for nursing.

readysteadynono · 07/09/2024 08:41

I didn’t notice any particular reduction in my bump until a while afterwards, so I just wore comfy maternity clothes.

Zanatdy · 07/09/2024 08:42

Maternity clothes for a couple of weeks I think, something comfortable

MillyMollyMandHey · 07/09/2024 08:42

Loungewear from Next - the kind that's half PJ's, half soft tracksuit. Soft and roomy!

DontBiteTheCat · 07/09/2024 08:44

MASSIVE pants and maternity leggings x

BarbaraHoward · 07/09/2024 08:47

I just wore my maternity jeans for a few weeks, I had a section and found them very comfy.

Your dresses will probably be perfect as you can layer up the big pants underneath! Just make sure you can get to your boobs if you're planning on breastfeeding.

OneKookyPinkShaker · 07/09/2024 08:48

I wore a maternity jumpsuit home from the hospital. Then maternity leggings and cycle shorts with a maternity vest with baggy t-shirt or shirt or cardigan over the top for breastfeeding. Occasionally wore maternity dresses.

I'm 4 months pp now and while my stomach has went down a lot and I can fit into pre-pregnancy leggings I still find the maternity ones the most comfortable.

snowballsintheoven · 07/09/2024 08:49

I got this from ASOS

This was the day after 8lb 5oz DC2 was born - literally still in the hospital

I wore things like this for a bit but tbh I was back in my size 8 clothes within 3 weeks or so. Thanks to breastfeeding

All about comfort. DD was a July heatwave baby - light dresses and vest tops were amazing. If you're BF then layer a vest under a tshirt for easy boob access
