I am due any day now and I'm not expecting to be coming home in my pre pregnancy jeans and as I have a very large bump, I'm not expecting it to disappear into thin air.
I've lived in floaty maternity sundresses for the last few months.
So what did you wear to hide the postpartum belly while getting back to shape?
D like to get a few things to prepare.

I left in jogging bottoms and a hoodie haha. One thing I will say is make sure you are planned for both types of birth. I had an emergency c section at the last minute and hadn’t planned for this so had no big knickers (to go over the scar) and clothing wasn’t very nice to wear on the scar either. Hope all goes well! 😊

Member984815 · 07/09/2024 10:06

Loose clothing , probably maternity clothing

FlibbertyGibbitt · 07/09/2024 10:06

Maternity clothes I wore before having the baby… my tummy looked like a deflated balloon ! You need to feel comfortable

NorthernKitty · 07/09/2024 10:13

Maternity clothes to leave the hospital, then I think a mixture of that and baggier clothes, Also it will be autumn by the time you look up again.

Dresses no good for breastfeeding, unless you don’t care about exposing yourself.

My biggest tip if breastfeeding is to wear a vest top under a baggier top. Slide the vest top over your boob (but you’re still covered at the top by the t shirt. The pull the baggy t shirt up at the bottom to stick baby on the boob, while your tummy (that you might not want to look at for a while) is covered by your vest top.

I had friends with breastfeeding tops and breastfeeding capes, but this was always far more effective (and cheaper!). I could do it in company without exposing any flesh.

I wasn't really fussed about "hiding a post partum belly". I grew a baby in there its nothing to be ashamed of and it did come back in a lot in the first month.

I just kept wearing the maternity jeans a bit longer. Who cares?

I can't remember exactly but I had a lovely French Connection dress all ready to wear. I tried to put it on in the hospital but it wouldn't go near me. I thi.k I had thoughts that I would have looked like Pri cess Di. Dh had to rush home to get me some jog bottoms or something so I could leave. It wasn't the look I wanted and rook me another three weeks before I could wear rhe dress. I finally wore it to push the pram around the park!

Haha I did just this I had intention of swishing out of the hospital a la Kate Middleton in lovely dress and shoes wore my husband's tee shirt some awful doggies and slippers.

MidnightPatrol · 07/09/2024 11:30

I carried on wearing my maternity clothes - I had to actively decide to stop as I looked such a mess most of the time.

Hard to move on from wearing leggings all the time. Waistbands are a nightmare.

Didimum · 07/09/2024 11:32

I wore my maternity clothes.

Why would you need need ‘hide’ your body? That’s really sad.

Normallynumb · 07/09/2024 14:38

I wore maternity trousers for a few days then soft jersey trousers for a few weeks
Most of my " baby weight" was actually fluid.
I'd say wear anything comfortable whether that's a dress or leggings.with a T shirt.
Congratulations in advance

tappitytaptap · 07/09/2024 16:26

Mainly leggings and vests with a shirt over for easy breastfeeding.

Mamai100 · 07/09/2024 16:28

A tracksuit to wear home (the irony).

I lived in leggings and my maternity jeans up until where I am now at 6 months pp and I'm finally down to my pre pregnancy weight.

NyeRobey · 07/09/2024 16:32

Dresses are a no for breastfeeding, if you plan to.
Wear separate tops and bottoms. Go home in something stretchy. Maternity leggings work for the first couple of weeks as things shrink down.

RidingMyBike · 07/09/2024 16:32

Maternity leggings to go home. My maternity jeans wouldn't stay up once there wasn't a baby in there!

PJs at home in the first week or so, then my normal jeans.

Hankunamatata · 07/09/2024 16:36

Leggings, massive pants, tunic top with access for bf

Ponoka7 · 07/09/2024 16:39

I had winter babies. Leggings and baggy jumpers. It was easy to hide under a coat.

Fontainebleau007 · 07/09/2024 16:41

Joggers and baggy t shirts

Raincoatsandwellies · 07/09/2024 16:49

Someone gave me this tip once and I pass it on as much as I can because it made all the difference to me post birth!
Disposable Tena Lady Incontinence Pants instead of big pants/big pads. So much more comfortable, didn't have the worry of leaking and less washing!

I wore my maternity clothes as long as possible but to actually leave the hospital first was PJ's and second was leggings.

lanthanum · 07/09/2024 16:54

Whatever my husband managed to find! We were due to move house before due date, but DD turned up 6 weeks early. As I'd grown out of things, I'd chucked them in a packing box, since I clearly wouldn't need them until after we moved. I had to send him home from hospital with instructions to find the box, and a guess at what might fit.

mathanxiety · 07/09/2024 17:27

Maternity jeans and leggings, with loose T-shirts and light tops.

mathanxiety · 07/09/2024 17:30

I just wore hospital gowns in the hospital, the front opening one over the back opening one.

WeRateSquirrels · 07/09/2024 17:34

Jogging bottoms then normal clothes (didn’t put on that much weight due to much puking 🤢). I never wanted to see my maternity clothes again, let alone wear them.

Agree that you’ve grown a human and don’t need to hide anything.

DillDanding · 07/09/2024 17:41

With my first, I was straight back into pre pregnancy jeans. (I wouldn’t get into them now, 20 years later 😂)

With the second, I made a point of wallowing a bit, so wore leggings or loose trousers for a couple of weeks. If you get back into normal clothes, it gives the message you’re back to normal when you should in fact be recovering, despite what you look like.

Lilacrose27 · 07/09/2024 19:04

I left the hospital in a clean pair of pyjamas because I was too tired to get dressed and it was the evening.

After that I wore my maternity leggings and oversized T-shirts/jumpers as that’s what I felt most comfortable in. In all honesty I didn’t stop wearing my maternity leggings as they were so comfy my little one is almost 1. I’m now pregnant again and I’ll be doing the same thing with this pregnancy/after the birth.

SerenaWaldorf · 07/09/2024 19:08

I came home from hospital in an oversized tracksuit and wore leggings and baggy T-shirts and sweatshirts for a while.

Mel2023 · 07/09/2024 19:24

I wore maternity or nursing clothes for a long while after. I’m 2 years pp and still not back to post baby size so I have gradually invested in new clothes, but for the first few months I just stuck to my maternity clothes. I found some really nice brands that sold lovely nursing friendly bits. My go to was leggings and nursing friendly tops, floaty dresses (it was summer) but equally if it was winter could have done tights and dresses. I ditched the maternity jeans and bought nice jeggings as the mat jeans got too big quickly but buying regular jeans felt too restricting on my tummy. I wore high waisted leggings (c-section) and a nursing tunic dress with sandals to come home from hospital as DS was born in a heatwave.
