AIBU to be in love with my adoptive brother?

Sorry for the clickbait title - this is actually just a fun thread.

Take the plot of a book and turn it into a AIBU

I'll start.

AIBU to want to marry my adoptive brother that my dad found somewhere and instead of just doing it, acting like a total bitch to him and everyone else even after I'd died?

I would move heaven and earth to fix this for my girl, how cn you say she's pretty apart from that 🙄 Be a parent.

YABU.
Lov didn’t seem to mind too much.
Anyway, I’m fixing to do it. Just as soon as I sell some blackjack to pay for it.

I’m madly in love with an unsuitable guy. Bit rough around the edges and a complete thief but I know that he loves me - in his own way - and he needs me. His dog, who is quite ugly, adores me
Hes got involved with a man who runs a group of pick pockets - mostly young boys with no homes. He makes them steal for him and gives them a place to sleep in return and some food.
Im sure one of them shouldn’t be there. I have a feeling he’s related to a very rich man who lives nearby and I think he has the right to know.
I want to take the young boy to him to give him a better life but I think my boyfriend would see it as a betrayal and kill me. What should I do? AIBU to put a stranger before my boyfriend?

Oh Nancy, so many red flags. LTB.

My really rich and gorgeous best friend has stolen my fiance after I introduced them, they just got married. AIBU to stalk them on their honeymoon to Egypt so that she knows how much she hurt me? I want to go to the same hotels, same boat etc.

Forget the dimwit boyfriend, stay away from weird little men with moustaches.

In my RL persona I've always wondered about the Marlow finances, given that they had this financial crisis at the point when they had on a mere five children in boarding schools and it's not that long since they had seven. They must really have been very well off given that, at today's prices, fees for seven children would have come to around £80-100K a term.

The navy, certainly in the 80s, had scholarships for children of serving officers. I knew someone who had one.

It's pretty clear that none of the Marlow girls had one of these. The situation was resolved in this SL by Lawrie getting a school scholarship for her acting.

I'd have thought the boys would have though, so only the girls needing paying for
The scholarships weren't full fees either, so they would have still had to find some money for each.

It is an odd time for them to run out of my money though because at one point they'd have had 1boy and 7girls at school and surely they wouldn't have started the twins if it had looked too much at that point.
They then decided they couldn't afford Nick at a point they have 1boy, 5 girls.
I know Nick says Karen had loads of scholarships so never cost anything, but Rowan had just dropped out too. So that implies there was more going on.

I always imagine that Giles and Captain Marlow know perfectly well that Peter is about as suited to the Navy as Lawrie would be, and are having mildly frantic unofficial conversations about what could tactfully be done with him after Dartmouth decides he's surplus to requirements, so 'affording to send Peter to a school where he doesn't keep nearly drowning people' may be another ongoing money concern.

I've always disapproved of the grounds on which Pam Marlow chooses Nick to be taken away from Kingscote (could she not face the idea of having Ginty moping around the house in full-on Unity Logan mode?), but yes, one does wonder about their finances pre- and post- the inheritance of Trennels. The farm never sounds at all profitable, no family money came with it, Jon had been in debt etc. But also their family planning. The Marlow parents eloped, Pam was barely out of her teens, and had clearly never worked, and he was a penniless young naval officer -- and they had babies as if it were going out of fashion!

AnonymousBleep · 11/09/2024 10:42

AIBU to be hurt that small kids are scared of me? Some people think I'm a bit morbid for never taking off my wedding dress, given that my fiance jilted me at the altar, and also because this happened years ago, but that dress cost a fortune and it's still got years of wear in it. I wasn't raised to waste money, but I must admit I do find the funny looks and occasional abject terror a bit upsetting.

Devilsadvocat · 11/09/2024 11:33

So ive just had an interview with a Gentleman to be his Gentlemans Gentleman. He is going to travel a lot at the fastest route for a bet, which is ok by me, but its the little things which has got me wondering if I should take the job i e everything has to be exactly on time and his bath water has to be a certain temperature. Shall I take this job?, ive been unemployed for a while.

Ah! I was more of a secret seven fan which I why I didn't get it straight away!

Also the poster only mentions the 4 children. How could you forget Timmy, who would never eat anything a stranger gave to him but frequently does.

Yes, Peter was never going to make a go of the Navy.

& good for him - Giles is an absolute tit.

I don't think AF ever thought through the finances, although I bet Rowan would be efficiently AirBnB-ing Peter's Room AND Karen's cottage by now.

Peter goes into acting and thoroughly exasperates Lawrie by becoming a star. She can't understand how Peter, who's never shown any liking for acting is so popular.
But what he's famous for is playing various people in the Navy in the popular post WWII war/hero films, and so he bases the solid older captain on his Father, the serious young officer on his brother, the tearaway handsome traitor on Foley and the young misunderstood newbie on himself.

Lawrie will never forgive him for stealing her thunder and Ginty can't understand why he won't introduce her to the handsome film stars he knows. However he gets Nicola a few extra roles on ships from time to time. 🤣
Mother thinks he should really tone it down to be fair to Ginty and Lawrie and pretend not to be quite so famous.
Father and Giles are embarrassed and never mention him outside the family.
Anne goes faithfully to see all his movies and cries copiously through them all then sends him a letter telling him how wonderful he is.
Karen and Rowen watch on amused at the antics of their younger brother, but not reading celebrity gossip never really realise how famous he is.

I don't see the harm. You might become famous!
(My DS loved the BBC series and kept asking me to say ,"Passepartout" in a cod French accent again and again).

AIBU?
DH and I recently moved into quite a prestigious building. All the influencers love it, apparently. We had a bit of bother extricating ourselves from a previous apartment but everyone expects a bit of toing and froing, don’t they?

I’m busy decorating etc while he’s out looking for work, he’s a bit of a luvvie and it’s starting to grate on me tbh.
Anyway.
He’s managed to get us invited to dinner with the neighbours and quite frankly, I don’t want to go.
They seem like the sort of people who’d have picky bits for tea and I just hate that. I prefer a decent steak, rare.
WIBU to take my own dessert? Or would that be rude?
I just think it’s nice to make a contribution?

Edited

The apartment sounds wonderful, hope there are plenty of spacious cupboards. I would try to ease back from the neighbours, especially if they are very elderly , sometimes elderly people can’t recognise the boundaries. Are there any younger people in the building for you to make friends with, maybe you could start a board games club one morning a week, a glass of Prosecco and a game of scrabble can be a lot of fun! Let’s hope your husbands career takes off soon, I will have my fingers crossed for him Rosemary.

Male here looking for female opinion. Met a really HOT woman, well I say met, I saw her in the dock at the Old Bailey. AIBU to get her off the murder charge in return for marrying me?

I suspect one of your middle names has led to some nominative determinism. Miss Climpson will help. But I don’t think your beloved will marry you for a few years yet.

Also, remember she's her own woman, and she isn't the type to marry you out of gratitude or desperation. After all, you wouldn't want her if she was. Start learning about being in love with a strong woman and you'll get there in the end.

And work on the post-War PSTD, and your weird co-dependency on Bunter. Most normal people pick out their own clothes in the morning.

Just listening to this again actually.

Try not mentioning you want to marry her till after she gets out of prison.

You know you aren't intending to blackmail her into accepting you (as otherwise you might not help get her acquitted) but she doesn't, and this is really pretty dubious behavior.
