AIBU to be in love with my adoptive brother?

Sorry for the clickbait title - this is actually just a fun thread.

Take the plot of a book and turn it into a AIBU

I'll start.

AIBU to want to marry my adoptive brother that my dad found somewhere and instead of just doing it, acting like a total bitch to him and everyone else even after I'd died?

Difficult situation and a reflection of the (non existent) NHS, why aren't the Government doing something, the wars with Napoleon are an excuse and we need a change, now.

All I'd say re the situation is that if an itinerant weaver rocks up and shows an interest in your DD, be extremely welcoming.

We seem to have a lot in common, although I’m in the US.
If only I could get enough money together to buy some guano and seed cotton.

Uricon2 · 06/09/2024 21:56

I'm a widower and my 8 year old daughter is a bit out of control and seems unhealthily fascinated with one of our neighbours, she's never met him but a bit of a strange bloke, difficult childhood. Everyone thinks he's harmless, though.

I'm a lawyer and involved in a really, really important case ATM. She has a good relationship with her brother and our cook and she has friends. Should I take a step back? Could this be a positive?

Would you be worried - my three kids climbed up a really really big tree in the woods and haven't come back down. It's been three days.

Also while there's traffic, what do you think of "Fanny" for a baby name?

😂

rosyAndMoo · 06/09/2024 22:12

AIBU to be angry at my sister.
i was chosen from hundreds in my district to represent them at an annual event. The event is televised and everyone is counting on our district to win. Just as I was stepping up to the stage after being chosen my sister took up the mic and said she would go in my place. Everyone thinks I’m fragile and can’t do anything and this was my chance to be someone and show what I can do, my sister says I wouldn’t have survived and I should be grateful she took my place - she’s a much better archer than me - a skill she says is usefult to have. I was chosen and she took my chance away without consulting me.

I am part of a sort of religion/women only organisation. We are all highly skilled and there's a strong focus on the importance of women in determining the future. Anyway, they can be quite interfering and the woman in charge is angry with me because I deliberately had a boy instead of a girl. She seems to think it will mess up the "plan". Also my DH is likely to die soon due to political maschinations and we have to move house as well. Anyway, WIBU to let her submit my DS to a test which will kill him if he fails or should I tell her to sod off?

Emotionalsupporthamster · 06/09/2024 23:27

AIBU to think DH groomed me?

Me (22F) and DH (30M) are newlyweds. I love him a lot but recently I’ve started to wonder if I might have been groomed by him. Since I was 6 and he was 36 he would show up randomly naked. IDK I guess I just kind of got used to it, but maybe looking back that was a bit of a red flag? He also claims to have no memory of this - is he gaslighting me?

The time travellers wife?

What book is this?!

Sounds to me like Flowers in the attic by Virginia Andrews?!

Beansandneedles · 07/09/2024 08:18

My little one just started at school, and he’s so eager to learn everything. The teachers say he’s a bit clumsy though—always crashing into things and setting stuff on fire by accident! He’s really determined to earn a gold star for being the best in his class. Lately, he’s become best friends with a clever girl who’s great at bandaging him up after his accidents. Should I be worried he’s setting his sights on becoming a knight-catcher next?

Miffylou · 07/09/2024 09:25

My parents worship me but still criticise me all the time (especially my failure to provide them with grandchildren). Thank God I’ve managed to keep my adventurous sex life hidden from them, and they never met my last nutty girlfriend (the one who threatened suicide if I didn’t marry her).

I decided to travel, to discover my cultural and religious roots, but that’s had a disastrous effect on my manhood, if you see what I mean. WIBU to just go NC with the family and change religions already?

Better he ends up as a knight catcher than working in NHS! Let him keep practising and he’ll be an expert by the time he’s fully grown.

I’m a bit worried about my DD (13 - nearly 14) Ever since a recent family party she’s been moody and withdrawn. Keeps gazing into the distance and sighing that No-one understands in a real drama queen way.

DH says it’s just her age, but I’ve had enough of her mooning about like her favourite pop star has just died. Is it just hormones? I know teenagers can be dramatic sometimes, but this whole lovesick nonsense is very wearing.

The other night she wasn’t eating, just toying with her food and when I pointed out that there were starving people in the world she snapped ‘well let them have it then!’ Could she have an eating disorder?

I just hope she doesn’t do anything stupid - she’s taken to staring out of her window - but when I try to talk to her she just rolls her eyes at me.

I can't think what this is but it sounds very Enid Blytoney!

Not if they have a dog called Timmy to protect them, Aunt Fanny

You should be more child focussed and not put your work first. It is your important case that will impose a bigger threat to your children.

BTW MNetters are you aware that school libraries in several Southern States have banned this book at the direction of their state education authorities. Some public libraries require children to have written parental authority to enter.

Flowers in the Attic? I was about13/14 when I read it. I don’t think I fully ‘got it’.

I was in a leading bookstore when I overheard a middle aged man asking for advice about a suitable book for his 12 year old niece. He was recommended Flowers in the Attic! I sidled up and told him the theme was incest and he thanked me and moved on.

Well, while it’s a deeply odd thing to recommend, and suggests the bookshop person wasn’t a reader, in fairness my entire generation read it when aged 12/ 13. It was doing the rounds in a ragged brown paper cover in my first year at secondary — incest, rape, child-murder, vicious physical punishment, being tarred by your sadistic granny, letting your young siblings suck your blood while starving etc etc.

Maybe but would you want to be held responsible by your relatives for giving it to your young niece?

My sister is so annoying. She's been writing this book for ages, calls it her life's work and is really proud of it 🙄

She is so bossy and stupid and her and my other sisters have gone out to see a play and won't let me come just because I have a cold.

AIBU to chuck her stupid book on the fire?

Don't worry Amy..... You'll get your own back when your Auntie takes YOU to Europe instead of your sister 😉

I'm m16

I'm apprentice to quite a powerful person. He's very well known but most people who meet him only do it once. He assigned me a pretty important job that I messed up significantly so he's already pretty cross with me. I was very nearly fired, but I think he decided against it as I was really starting to get into the swing of it, and he was starting to 'live' a little before I messed up. It was a tough situation where I was supposed to let someone die for the greater good but I just couldn't let her be killed

My master has a daughter a similar age to me and I really like her. Neither of us will really have a chance to meet any other young people as we live VERY remotely

Aibu to marry her and leave my apprenticeship? I know we are young but I'm certain I love her

Mort? Something Terry Pratchett anyway 😁
