I’d buy a stone cottage in the Cotswolds with a natural swimming pond and a flat in Notting Hill for when i got bored.

I would rescue 3/4 dogs (would be a gradual process as my current dog shepherds away dogs I show affection to)

Buy siblings and parents a house.

And probably foster. My job would come in the form of investing in female education in my grandparents’ home country. And something to do with the elderly here.

I’m a homebody so apart from a first class trip to Sydney I probably wouldn’t live too much a jet setter lifestyle.

I love spending imaginary money.

I'd pay off my car loan and mortgage and probably buy another house for my son.
I'd do up both houses beautifully.
Id go on some nice holidays
I'd start a business to employee people with disabilities.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 04/09/2024 18:30

After I sobered up?

AllPrincessAnneshorses · 04/09/2024 18:35

Put some in trust for sons. Travel. Give the rest away. I fancy building some almshouses...
I wouldn't though. Because I don't play.

RuthW · 04/09/2024 18:35

I would buy a large bungalow near where I live and carry on as normal.

Prawncow · 04/09/2024 18:37

Obviously lots of practical and charitable stuff but also pay someone to dress up as a giant squirrel and run around the garden so my dog could chase them and (eventually) catch them. It would make her so happy.

DoubleShotEspresso · 04/09/2024 18:39

Secure the services of the best education barrister snd sue the shit out of the government for the unforgivable SEND failings.
Then set-up a think tank to review and resolve the entire system

My son will do that for twenty quid

Prawncow · 04/09/2024 18:42

There’s also the cost of the squirrel suit!

olderbutwiser · 04/09/2024 18:43

At my age (retirement) and stage (mortgage paid off, contemplating downsizing) I find this too much of a conundrum. I mean, what will I do with £100 million at my age? So I stick to Lotto where my winnings will be more manageable.

Elphame · 04/09/2024 18:43

Buy a cottage with 20 acres of woodland around it and no neighbours within earshot.

The rest I'd give to my children now to avoid an IHT liability (along with a suitable 7 yr DTA policy)

ChanelBoucle · 04/09/2024 18:43

Assuming this Friday:
Give a million to everyone I know and love.
Give a generous amount to various charities.
Secure our dd’s futures.
Do up our house.
Buy a second home somewhere by the sea.
Retire early.
Buy a motorhome.

But I won’t as I’m not entering this Friday.

MagentaRocks · 04/09/2024 18:44

Buy or build a house with everything I would love like a library, secret room, basement etc. Somewhere very detached with a lot of land that has woods, stream lots of hideaways.

Buy a camper van

Give a lot of it away to friends and family.

Donate a lot to charities, less well known ones as well as cancer research etc. charities that help women flee forced marriage, FGM etc.

PurBal · 04/09/2024 18:45

Pay off mortgage, maybe move.
Do any outstanding house redecoration etc
Buy a new car, maybe 2 so we have 1 each
Fill my children's pension pots
Gift some to relatives
Have a blow out holiday
Make wise investments so I could live off the interest
Become a philanthropist

Dramatic · 04/09/2024 18:46

I would do the small extension on our house that we've been wanting for years, I wouldn't move. I also love my 8 year old car so I would probably keep that. I'd book a touring holiday of America, a trip to Lapland for the kids at Christmas with all the bells and whistles.

I'd probably buy each of the kids a house that they can do whatever they wish with when they're adults.

I'd sort out all my closest friends and family, but I would only tell about 3 people because I wouldn't want the world to know (the rest would be told we'd got inheritance)

I'd source some good charities and causes to help out.

Tralalaka · 04/09/2024 18:47

I’d buy a 2 bed flat for each of my kids and my mum. That’s it

Fontainebleau007 · 04/09/2024 18:47

First of all celebrate with a nice bottle of champagne!! 🍾 lol
Buy a couple of houses
Put money away for kids futures
Build animal rescue centres
Donate to charities
Take a 1st class trip across America
Nice relaxing holiday in the Seychelles
Give some money to family members
Get a personal trainer, chef etc

Wow that would be amazing. Can dream lol

Loub1987 · 04/09/2024 18:47

I would quit my horrible job!

Tell no one.

Buy a nice modern house that required no work.

Hire a cleaner.

Take my parents on a lovely cruise.

Rent a mega motor yatch for a week and take all my friends on a holiday. Which to be fair would be difficult to explain given I will not tell them I won.

Give @Prawncow sufficient money for the squirrel suit dream. That would is just good sense.

Alongthepineconetrail · 04/09/2024 18:47

Secure housing and education for my family & friends

Buy my friend a super whizzy electric wheelchair

Set up a social enterprise business & sheltered independent living flats for young people with SEND

Travel more

Persuade dh to reduce his hours & take up more hobbies

Donate to smaller charities as the large ones get too much money

Daleksatemyshed · 04/09/2024 18:47

Not much family so I'd give to charity and maybe start a credit union, let people borrow without paying much interest.

woodlandstream · 04/09/2024 18:48

When I win I know exactly what I'll do:

  1. I know the exact house I am going to buy overlooking the sea in my city
  2. Secure my kids' futures (but not give them so much it makes them lazy or apathetic about working)
  3. Give huge amounts to all my friends and family
  4. Set up a charity organisation in a cause that touches my heart
  5. I'm buying a Bugati
  6. I will wear only Versace
  7. I will retire from work early (very early) and spend my life travelling all over the world and seeing places I've always wanted to go
A1ia · 04/09/2024 18:50

Sad as it is, I have two plans...

If I won a smaller amount (like the £1million raffle)...

  • I would buy a detached house somewhere near to where I live now (though preferably a little further out and towards the hills) - it would have to have a minimum of 3 bedrooms, a driveway for 2 cars and a decent garden. Approx £350k
  • I would buy my parents a house by the seaside, which is their retirement dream. Approx £250k
  • I would put a good chunk of money in a trust for my son, for his future, and gift some to my brother and to my stepson to help them out.
  • I would make a decent donation to my son's school (state school, limited resources) to fix some of the issues that only money can help.
  • I would pay off our existing debts.
  • I would pay for an amazing holiday to my husband's homeland, which is financially out of reach for us at the moment. The latter holiday would be a minimum of £5k but could be 'one in a lifetime' at closer to £10k.
  • I would seek out some private medical assistance as I've been on the NHS waiting lists for 3 years with one ongoing chronic pain issue and I've been bumped back and forth for 10 years with another issue - it would be amazing to finally get help.
  • Other than that, life would continue as normal. I would continue to work and I would expect my husband to do the same.

If we won a stupid amount, like the jackpot tonight, all bets are off! Homeschooling my child whilst travelling around the world would definitely be my first priority, as well as ensuring I was able to gift the money I outlined above to those close to us. It could cause heated conversations though as I know my husband would fully relocate abroad and I'm not sure I'd want to... Still, a problem I'm sure I could cope with having! Fingers crossed.

Sunshineclouds11 · 04/09/2024 18:50

Give money to family
Pay mortgage off and rent out
Put money into trusts for kids
Buy afew houses/flat, do up and rent out
Buy a lovely big bungalow
A lush holiday
Hire a stylist
Get a cleaner

Flibflobflibflob · 04/09/2024 18:51

Share with my family, then probably live life pretty similar to what I do now, except never ever flying economy again. I can’t think of anything I want but the security of never worrying about money would be a big bonus for me. Probably go to the theatre a lot.

Itllfalloff · 04/09/2024 18:52

I wouldn’t even move house! I’d help out some family, ring fence a bit for the kids - but not too much, I know some very wealthy people and their children are ruined- and then I’d set up a charity giving university scholarships to WC kids and donating to local small charities. The kind where £500/£1k can really make a difference.

tobee · 04/09/2024 18:53

I think I'd like to set up a business which could help autistic adults with their lives; help them find work etc etc.

Fun stuff? Buy a few houses around the world and become a member of various clubs and organisations. BA Gold Card, boxes at various theatrical places etc.

I'd need advice as to how to give money to friends and family etc. I wouldn't want them (my dc) to feel I wasn't helping them out but also wouldn't want them to have meaningless lives with money not being a motivation or being earned etc. Help my elderly parents have the best life as is left to them.
