To ask what your kids have for breakfast?

Sorry, bit of a boring one.

Can I please ask what your children have for breakfast on school mornings? I'm trying to get ideas for my son who has just started secondary school so I'm anxious for him to get a good breakfast.

He doesn't like toast, he'll eat cereal but isn't keen. I can get fruit down him if I make him, mostly bananas but they can't have any black on them at all. I've tried him on various homemade smoothies and he didn't like them. Absolutely will not entertain porridge.

Ideally he wants a pain au chocolate or a chocolate brioche every morning but I'd like ideas for something healthier!

AIBU to want him to eat a better breakfast and to ask for your ideas?

Cereal, fruit or occasionally toast.

Mine are sweet breakfast addicts - these were a hit though

Thank you for all answers and ideas!

We have discovered there is a breakfast club at school which is completely free for all students and which his friends go to so he's going to leave early in the mornings and go to that.

Some great ideas though, thank you

I didn’t ever eat breakfast on school mornings. I only eat breakfast now because I have 2 small kids and have to be up and lugging stuff. My tummy just didn’t open. I used to take a pain au chocolate on the bus..

as an adult I’ve had Greek yoghurt with fruit/ banana, slice of fruit toast, I have smoothie now Bt see that’s out. You cd try making muffins if he has sweet tooth? There are some lovely fruity healthy ones and can freeze. At least then is lesss processed. For my small kids I don’t add sugar even.

I wouldn’t force it though!

Just seen your update, good plan. My ds needs a massive breakfast to function through the day and we try and get a decent protein portion in it. As a non breakfast eater I do find it weird but we are all different!

My 5 year old has a pretty small range of foods she will entertain in the morning, but one of those is a chunk of straight up parmesan cheese off the block! So I am running with that because its very protein dense so am happy she's found something she likes.

Today she had a chunk of parmesan, half a pancake that had butter on it and about 3 cashew nuts.

Other days she has porridge, or French toast, or an egg with toast.
