Thug sentenced for violent disorder and threatening police, all good.

But the chanting? Maybe I’ve got the wrong end of the stick but I thought criticising religion, even crudely, is permitted in the UK and not a crime so long as it doesn’t stray into harassment or incitement of another crime.

Labour are allegedly considering new legislation around the extent to which people can criticise Islam.

AIBU to think people should have the right to criticise religion (even crudely), and that we should not revert to having blasphemy laws in the UK? I apply this to all religions, including my own, and not just Islam.

Sutton man, 61, who chanted ‘who the f*** is Allah’ is jailed for 18 months

David Spring made threatening gestures at police and chanted “who the f*** is Allah” during large-scale disorder in Whitehall.

Its not satire though—its closer to blood libel. The false accusation that blasphemy laws are going to protect one religion over others is a provocation meant to lead to further racial/religious conflict. Its not a joke.

I long for a secular society where none of this religious bollocks has any control.

I agree. I would prefer a secular society with no carve outs protecting religious orders, no tax benefits, no preferential treatment. In the US churches do not oay taxes and religious schools are granted benefits and exemptions not offered to regular schools. Catholic hospitals are permitted to make anti woman health care devisions. And Christian schools and orders gave sued to overturn good government policies, employment law, and health care provisions that run counter to their religiously inspired misogyny and anti LGBTQ preferences.
