To think that global warfare is going to happen any minute now?

And that Western countries are not doing enough to promote peace between nations. It could take any of the international tensions to spark global warfare. Russia, China and its neighbours, Israel. Palestine and the Middle East.

It's been like that for decades. Suez Crisis, Cuban Missile Crisis, you name it.

SecretKeeper1 · 02/09/2024 22:38

Any minute now? FFS I’ve just laid on the sofa with a cuppa and some shortbread, I’m really not in the mood for this.

AnneLovesGilbert · 02/09/2024 22:38

Nope.

HelloMiss · 02/09/2024 22:38

It's been that way for years.....was threatened with being nuked 'any minute' back in the 80's

Still waiting....

HelloMiss · 02/09/2024 22:39

I don't think you are going to stir up much panic here on mumsnet OP, perhaps try Netmums

Octavia64 · 02/09/2024 22:40

Russia is already at war. With Ukraine.

There is already war in the Middle East and so far it hasn't spread and we're nearly a year in now.

Don't see why we'd get a world war now. Last year looked more likely.

HelloMiss · 02/09/2024 22:40

I really fancy some shortbread now....

Ahaaaa made me chuckle 😊😂😂😂

Other posters are right though … the world is always on the brink of war

longdistanceclaraclara · 02/09/2024 22:42

How old are you op? Genuine question because it has always been like this.

TheABC · 02/09/2024 22:44

Why is it just the job of Western nations?
I'm sure that the Arab nations are taking a keen interest in their regional security whilst Turkey, China and India are eying up Russia.

In the meantime, I'm going to make flapjacks. If WWIII breaks out, I will face it with a full belly.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 02/09/2024 22:45

As pp have said this is not new.

We now just know more about it because of the internet and 24/7 news.

Years ago it was the paper if you read it and the 6 o'clock news if you watched it and people were largely oblivious

Taking the longer view this is probably the least violent the world has been since we started sharpening sticks and hurling them at each other tens of thousands of years ago.

History is just a big list of wars and atrocities.

We may very well wipe ourselves out one day. We are bloodthirsty apes.

MagePaige · 02/09/2024 22:45

I don't think it's always been like this because the major change is the withdrawal (or decline, however you see it) of America from Europe. The global security architecture is changing/under threat.

Gone12 · 02/09/2024 22:47

What a happy bedtime thread.

Like the British empire.
And all empires before that.
Rise then fall then shitshow then somewhere else rises

When I was at school we were expecting the 4 minute warning, the time we were supposedly getting in advance of a nuclear bomb attack. That was so many years ago the old Queen was actually quite young! Chill.

BankHolidayReset · 02/09/2024 22:49

I do wonder why people look to us to deal with the feral fuckers of this world who cannot behave

What was that film they showed us at school? Threads? The one about nuclear war and people getting vaporised?

TheShellBeach · 02/09/2024 22:50

You again!

Fizzadora · 02/09/2024 22:51

I vaguely remember reading something a while ago that since the outbreak of WW1 in 1914 ( might have been even further back than that) there had only been one day where there was no conflict recorded anywhere in the world.
Fucking men with their fucking religions and egos. Tossers.
