Neighbours have blocked my drive

My NDD are having a house warming so they have guests and their car is now partially blocking my drive but there’s no way on as I’d be driving over high curb/front of house gravel and solar lights. I’m on a new build estate so parking isn’t great and I’m now parked outside my house but I’m now double parked with a large car. What would you do?!

OP posts:

This.
I’d go round now before they have too much drink taken and ask them in a friendly way to get their guest to move to let you in your drive, then they can park over it if you don’t need out again tonight (or too early in the morning). You might get asked round for the house warming 😀

This.
And start by saying Happy House Warming.

I really hope OP isn’t still sitting in her car wondering what to do

DeCaray · 03/09/2024 07:55

How dope ole get through life if they can't even knock on a neighbours door and ask them to move the car so that you can get in your drive?

JohnofWessex · 03/09/2024 10:15

What was the outcome.

I might be concerned that when the party ended there could be a few drunk drivers leaving the house

Only if there is a car on it, if it's empty it's fair game

What happened to courtesy?
I would never block a drive full stop.
It has to be left free for cars to get on and off.

Your attitude is exactly what's wrong and why we have all these parking problems.

Toptops · 03/09/2024 20:24

Tell them to move

Thistooshallpass24 · 03/09/2024 20:28

@Toptops you do realise it's been 24hrs ?!

Well once you're in your drive can't they park back there if you're not going out again tonight?

Yes, but that would involve having a good old fashioned conversation with them and reaching an amicable compromise. That's all so pre-2010.

I would ask how they did it before they had MN to ask first, but I was forgetting that was back in the day when people fostered meaningful relationships in person with fellow earth dwellers.

Emmmm11 · 02/09/2024 20:25

I would but they will have no where else to go either! They have guests outside and two cars on their drive

That isn’t your problem. They need to move it to let you on your drive at least

Petlover9 · 03/09/2024 21:09

FoxtrotOscarKindaDay · 02/09/2024 20:26

That sounds like a them problem. Their guests can go park on another street.

Quite right. OP needs to tell them she is expecting to go out later and needs the drive clear to use.

Thistooshallpass24 · 03/09/2024 21:31

It's sounds like a "yesterday problem' I'm pretty sure she's not still sat outside her house trying to work out what to do........

I wouldn't be at all shocked if she was.

I would punctuate better.

You mean puncture a car tyre? You surely don't feel the need to point out grammatic errors in a clearly understood post? This isn't an English project.

Thistooshallpass24 · 03/09/2024 21:34

@LongTimeReading fair point, apologies :)

And? Not your problem. If you're not going out again, they can always move their car back.

Don't always check the dates, I'm afraid but it's valid advice for the future.

@coldcallerbaiter
Or both

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 21/10/2024 19:33

If you really can't face asking them to move, you'd better find another parking space for yourself in a nearby road for tonight. In the morning you could visit them to introduce yourself and try to get the know them, so it will be easier to ask another time.
EDIT: Just realised this is an old post, but still a good idea to get to know tricky neighbours.

Caroparo52 · 17/02/2025 23:05

Not your problem. Its your drive for you to use
