Neighbours have blocked my drive

Emmmm11 · 02/09/2024 20:23

My NDD are having a house warming so they have guests and their car is now partially blocking my drive but there’s no way on as I’d be driving over high curb/front of house gravel and solar lights. I’m on a new build estate so parking isn’t great and I’m now parked outside my house but I’m now double parked with a large car. What would you do?!

Report to 101 then LTB.

Mummy2mybear · 02/09/2024 20:31

I agree with the above be assertive and tell them to move it! Do it now. Its not your problem, they did not worry about you when blocking you out.

Emmmm11 · 02/09/2024 20:25

I would but they will have no where else to go either! They have guests outside and two cars on their drive

Why is that your issue? Not your problem

sangriaandsunshineplease · 02/09/2024 20:33

Knock, ask them to move and then, once I'm on my drive, let them park across it blocking me in. This is standard in our cul de sac as we often have to play car tetris.

Pantaloons99 · 02/09/2024 20:29

OP seriously! This reminds me of how I used to be....

First as advised very politely but assertively just ask if they can move their car as you can't access your drive. Don't apologise either please OP.

Second - if you're a chronic people pleaser, neighbour and everyone else will shit all over you and that's a guarantee. Set boundaries nicely now.

Yes, this is my issue I think. I’m on my own and they seem a bit rude so far from what I’ve seen

If its a new build estate presumably the roads are 'private' and the management company should get involved if it happens regularly

Emmmm11 · 02/09/2024 20:36

It’s definitely their car. I think they’ve let guests park on their drive/infront of their house. Sounds very lively and lots of people were taking big crates of booze in

OhmygodDont · 02/09/2024 20:37

Knock ask them to move to let you in your drive and since it’s a one off party offer to let them block you back In. Unless your planning on going out again.

Yes it’s a new road, there isn’t any other roads nearby really, none for parking on anyway. Just road in to the village which is a 60 road so no parking

Thistooshallpass24 · 02/09/2024 20:37

@Emmmm11 Dear God just go tell them, it really not difficult
Knock knock
Hi I can't get on my drive can you move the car?
Done

HundredMilesAnHour · 02/09/2024 20:38

Bang on their front door and tell them that they (or their guests) need to move their car as they're preventing you accessing your drive and you're currently double parked in the middle of the road.

Suggest you also make sure they don't block you in once you're finally on your drive.

Pantaloons99 · 02/09/2024 20:39

@Emmmm11 yes I knew it from your post.

I'm in the same position and live in social housing so that's a bit scary in itself ( yes I'm stereotyping but alot of these tenants are feral).

You think being nice and accommodating wins people over, keeps you safe and makes people look out for you and be your buddy. Wrong!!

They already have taken the absolute piss and they either just do that to people or sense you are vulnerable and think a pushover

So this is your opportunity to sort it out because it will just get worse in every area of your life.

If you're nervous, fake it. You don't apologise. You ask politely but with confidence. Hey, one of your cars is blocking my driveway and I can't get in. Can you quickly move it? Cheers.

Nice, friendly, done.

I had a similar issue and being assertive is the only way.

Thistooshallpass24 · 02/09/2024 20:39

Nextdoors guests are not your problem well they are right now as you can't access your home! But what they do after you have accessed your home is not your problem!

Aliceglass · 02/09/2024 20:39

I know what it is like not wanting a confrontation. However, don’t set a precedent by letting them block your driveway. I’m sure they wouldn’t like it if it happened to them. If they don’t move, block them in if possible. I live in a courtyard and if I’m blocked in, I always knock on the door and ask and no one has ever got funny with me. They’re in the wrong not you.

Emmmm11 · 02/09/2024 20:25

I would but they will have no where else to go either! They have guests outside and two cars on their drive

So what? Go and knock on and tell them to move or they’ll get blocked in

Icecreamandcoffee · 02/09/2024 20:45

Knock on the door. Ask them to move. Can they not park over their drive and block the cars on their drive in?

ineedtogwtoutbeforeitatoohot · 02/09/2024 20:45

Ask them to move if you want to go out. What else would you do

BarbaraHoward · 02/09/2024 20:48

I would guess they have assumed you'll knock to get on your drive and then let them park over it again once you're in.

On a new build estate with limited parking I'd seriously consider getting that favour in the bag in case you need the same some day.

If you don't want them to block you in then that would be perfectly reasonable of you.

Noodlehen · 02/09/2024 20:48

A housewarming on a Monday is so weird. Does nobody have a job?

but yes, you’re going to have to ask them to move. I would maybe tell them they can use your drive too if there’s space and you wanted to be “nice”

Underdogfun · 02/09/2024 20:49

Knock, super smile
ask to move, they can sort it out

EmoIsntDead · 02/09/2024 20:51

Emmmm11 · 02/09/2024 20:25

Not your problem

Doggymummar · 02/09/2024 20:54

Monday night party is weird, just ask them to move

But that isn't your problem

victoriapauncefootjones · 02/09/2024 20:56

You don't 'ask'.

You say, 'Hello, I need you to move your cars please. I can't get in my drive'.

If they refuse you call a towing company.

PattiSmithsPattis · 02/09/2024 20:56

There is a difference between blasting your horn & politely knocking.
Try politely first. Do be prepared for the 'sorry I've had a drink' bullshit though.
