Neighbours have blocked my drive

Emmmm11 · 02/09/2024 20:23

My NDD are having a house warming so they have guests and their car is now partially blocking my drive but there’s no way on as I’d be driving over high curb/front of house gravel and solar lights. I’m on a new build estate so parking isn’t great and I’m now parked outside my house but I’m now double parked with a large car. What would you do?!

It's an offence to block a drive.

Only if there is a car on it, if it's empty it's fair game

Bloody rude though to block anyone’s drive whether there’s a car in it or not!

You're nasty.

Paintingabove · 02/09/2024 22:33

Do what my neighbours do, assume the worst about your neighbours, fester about it for weeks without saying anything and then get somebody else to have a go at them for you, or alternatively knock on the door like a normal person and see what the crack is. Ours was we had a family emergency but they didn’t go beyond insulting to ask about it.

Emmmm11 · 02/09/2024 20:25

I would but they will have no where else to go either! They have guests outside and two cars on their drive

Oh well. Not your problem. I’m sure they’ll find somewhere.

Do we think the OP is still stood outside her house wondering what to do? 🤔😆

soakingupthesun · 02/09/2024 22:47

Any updates? I really do hope you asked them to move. If you didn't then they'll think this is acceptable.
Or could you block them in?

Do you need to go out @Emmmm11

if yes, Knock

if no, chill.

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 02/09/2024 23:57

I can see why that feels difficult OP as it does sound intimidating if you're not very confident. You're 100% within your rights to ask them that though so you really shouldn't feel afraid to go over.

She can't get in is the problem I think, not that she can't get out.

DragonGypsyDoris · 02/09/2024 23:57

What would I do? Post to Mumsnet, obviously. A sure way of resolving any issue.

ILoveToCleanSaidNooneEver · 03/09/2024 01:01

Bloody hell. I'm the least confrontational person but, in similar circumstances, have gone out and said that they couldn't park there. It was a house warming party but I happened to see them block our drive. I just went out and said 'I'm sorry, you can't park there as my DH won't be able to get his van up OUR drive'. I couldn't believe the cheek tbh.

I would've been happy to go and knock in this instance too.

Frogpole · 03/09/2024 03:07

Why do some individuals find it so difficult to understand that lots of people sit somewhere between "disliking" confrontation and being "absolutely fcuking petrified" of it? We all have different lives, different backgrounds, different experiences, things that shape who we are. Confrontational situations don't phase me one bit (on account of my being built like Dwayne Johnson had a lovechild with Shrek, only taller charisma and charm) other than one specific situation, but I try to avoid them as much as possible because it's not very nice. That's just me though, being nice, polite, and civilised isn't a sign of weakness any more than being a big hairy gobshite is a sign of strength - we're all different people is all.

ThisBlueCrab · 02/09/2024 22:13

Actually that's no longer true. The law changed recently & parking over any dropped kerb is an offence

GreenTeaLikesMe · 03/09/2024 03:52

It's not your problem that they have nowhere to park! Your neighbors have a responsibility to anticipate and sort out the issue. They could have asked people to lift-share, asked one person to use a taxi to get here and back, or asked people to get to the nearest public transport point and then they will drive them to their home together.

If necessary, one of those guests will have to drive off and find a car park to park in, pay for it, and then dial for a taxi to take them from there to your neighbor's house.

In the country where I live, onstreet parking is "mostly" illegal (and overnight onstreet parking is always illegal, your car will get towed if you try it). You simply have to find ways to park legally in a private car park and walk/taxi to your destination, if you are planning to visit a friend's house by car. So I have no bloody sympathy with your neighbors or their friends.

Immemorialelms · 03/09/2024 04:02

No, but not expressing the truth of your own legitimate needs is holding back from an honest and whole hearted engagement with others. Asking people to do something to accommodate you isn't confrontation.
