Neighbours have blocked my drive

My NDD are having a house warming so they have guests and their car is now partially blocking my drive but there’s no way on as I’d be driving over high curb/front of house gravel and solar lights. I’m on a new build estate so parking isn’t great and I’m now parked outside my house but I’m now double parked with a large car. What would you do?!

Agree with everyone. Knock and
tell them to move. That’s the only solution if you want to park on your drive. If you are ok with them blocking you in after then say so. If not just tell them they need to move. Do it now or they will say they are too drunk later.

You don't 'ask'.

You say, 'Hello, I need you to move your cars please. I can't get in my drive'.

If they refuse you call a towing company.

This!!

I hope by now you’ve asked them to move- for heavens sake don’t start tiptoeing round them simply for expecting a level of courtesy most people would display intuitively.

HAHAHAHAHA!!! 😂

I would but they will have no where else to go either! They have guests outside and two cars on their drive

That’s really not your problem.

BlueMum16 · 02/09/2024 20:59

I 100@% agree with politely asking them to move but for what its worth you can block am empty drive with no recourse from the police/parking warden.

DontCallAnyoneAnIdiotOrYouWillBeBannedAgain · 02/09/2024 21:01

The only things you can possibly do is write a post on Mumsnet, say "no" to every suggestion that involves actually SPEAKING to them, and hide behind "not like confrontation"/ "they also have nowhere else to park".

Job done OP!

simpledeer · 02/09/2024 21:05

Just explain they need to move it or they will be blocked in, as you are about to sink a litre of vodka…

SaffronsMadAboutMe · 02/09/2024 21:09

What would you do?!

Is this a trick question? 😳

It's bloody obvious, you just knock and ask them to move because you're double parked.

soberholic · 02/09/2024 21:15

Anewuser · 02/09/2024 20:25

Knock and tell them to move…..but you know the score - parking diagram.

Haha yeah where's our diagram?

OhmygodDont · 02/09/2024 21:15

Someone said a towing company?? 🤣🤣 it’s not illegal to block and empty drive it’s not legal to tow a legally parked car.

The police will only get involved if you are block in on your drive as it’s illegal to stop someone entering the highway.

Gremlins101 · 02/09/2024 21:22

OP, I really want to know if this has finally tipped you off your people pleasing cliff and you have gone full psycho villain on them? Have you got an axe and smashed the windscreen while standing on the roof of the offending car yet?

I ask this as a people pleaser who sometimes wants to go psycho villain. But I nearly always pull myself back from the edge and just be vaguely assertive in a nice, smiley way instead.

BiscuityBoyle · 02/09/2024 21:23

Fake being brave and be extra friendly.

’Hi, I’ve just got home and I think one of your cars is blocking my drive. Can you move it so I can get on the drive? Thank you.’

Well, I don't know about an axe but a small paring knife can work wonders with tyres.

Please don't ask me how I know this.

MadeleineLucyMaxwell · 02/09/2024 21:25

People always park on my drive because its a weird layout and looks like it could be next doors drive, it's a triple drive, I don't have a car and I always go round and tell them to get off my drive, they say sorry and move the car. Other neighbours ask to use it sometimes and I say yes but if you don't say anything they'll assume it's ok.

Iknowitsyou · 02/09/2024 21:26

Personally I’d knock and say can you please move so I can get in my drive if I didn’t need back out again tonight I would say happy for you to park over once I’m in as long as it will be moved by x time as I will be going out.

So what did you do OP?

Thistooshallpass24 · 02/09/2024 21:37

@HelloMiss I was just about to ask the same

redbluegreenyellowbrown · 02/09/2024 21:37

Why would you not knock on their door and politely ask them to move?

If they are having a gathering this evening, and I assume at gone 8pm you are not likely to be going out again, perhaps you could suggest that they even re-block your drive and then move it when their guests leave.

In the highly unlikely event that tonight of all nights there was an emergancy, and you needed to leave I'm sure any reasonable neighbour would move again.

Being able to get a long and help each other out / cooperate is much easier in the long run.

May not be an offence but it’s pretty shit behaviour

Hairspray123 · 02/09/2024 21:43

OP I hope for your sake you are not still sat in the car debating what to do!

GetOuttaMyPubAgain · 02/09/2024 21:51

Knock on the door! I'm more confused by who throws a house warming party on a Monday night!

MassiveOvaryaction · 02/09/2024 21:53

Have you asked them to move yet?!

They move, you put your car on your drive, tell them they can then park over it if necessary "but it needs to be gone by 6am so I can get out to work".

Snippit · 02/09/2024 21:53

Is this a joke, get real and be an adult, knock on the chuffing door, Jesus Christ 🤦‍♀️

Well unless you like living with this drip feeding drama we can't say anything other than tell them to shift it
