I missed an audio call accidentally and then received this emoji. AIBU to assume they were not pleased about it? How would you interpret if you had been sent this?

Jokingly annoyed - hence the smile on the skull.

Sethera · 01/09/2024 09:09

Depends who the call was from.

Neveranynamesleft · 01/09/2024 09:10

I would ignore if I didn't know who it was from. If they want me they can call back !

probster · 01/09/2024 09:10

waiting for the drip about the back story

Bookhoarder7 · 01/09/2024 09:12

@Neveranynamesleft yes I did know who it was from that's what had thrown me about it. It seems to me to show they are unhappy. @Gatehouse77 it hadn't occurred to me that the skull was smiling.

StTola · 01/09/2024 09:12

I doubt I’d even notice. If they need to talk to me they need to call me back.

Catza · 01/09/2024 09:13

Depends on who it is from, isn’t it?
If it’s your drug dealer who chased you for money for the last two weeks, then it is probably threatening. If it is your 80-year-old granny, then she probably pressed the wrong button..

Bookhoarder7 · 01/09/2024 09:13

@probster why it was a question about what you think this emoji represents to you

OP posts:
StolenChanel · 01/09/2024 09:13

It’s either a joke or an accident. Don’t read too much into it.

Maddy70 · 01/09/2024 09:14

Joke annoyed. You're overthinking

Bookhoarder7 · 01/09/2024 09:14

@Catza 😅 yes this makes complete sense. However it was just in the middle of a conversation and I was a little thrown as I perceived this emoji to be quite aggressive? It doesn't seem like a natural choice for me

OP posts:
Bookhoarder7 · 01/09/2024 09:15

@StolenChanel perhaps I am

OP posts:
Thurien · 01/09/2024 09:16

Did you miss Ham Night?

StolenChanel · 01/09/2024 09:17

Do you mind if I ask how old you are @Bookhoarder7 ? I don’t mean that disrespectfully, it’s just that I find different generations interpret emojis (and general online communication) differently.

Werweisswohin · 01/09/2024 09:18

'Hey [insert person's name], what's with the skull face?'

Bookhoarder7 · 01/09/2024 09:20

@StolenChanel I am old enough to remember when emojis did not exist!
I think in the context of the prior conversation it did not make sense for me to have this what I perceived to be an aggressive/unhappy/unpleasant (?) emoji. This does not represent I am happy you missed the call. Why send anything at all??

no that wasn’t what you asked

you asked AIBU to assume they were not pleased about it? How would you interpret if you had been sent this?

which is different to what this emoji represents to me. I think the emoji means death or poison but i would NEVER assume anyone meant to send this to me to convey they weren’t pleased with me for a missed call.

Bookhoarder7 · 01/09/2024 09:20

@Werweisswohin I asked and had no response

Ah well.
Don't overthink it, folk miss calls all the time.

Bookhoarder7 · 01/09/2024 09:23

@probster why? Is it out of the realm of possibility that someone would be so pissed off? Perhaps NOT in this instance but it is a negative emoji and it was sent after a missed call so I am to assume they are happy or unhappy??

OP posts:
WigglyVonWaggly · 01/09/2024 09:24

I’d assume they pressed the wrong one!

AuCo44 · 01/09/2024 09:24

It’s a humorous way of telling you they’re not really annoyed about you missing the call.

You are overthinking this.

Edingril · 01/09/2024 09:25

Halloween is next month is all I have it's that or has to be a massive conspiracy

Fair enough. What is the age of the person who sent it? I’m in my early 30s and would send this or something similar to close friends as a “you’re dead meat” joke. It’s not something I would expect them to comment on or respond to, so there’s no particular reason for it. I guess it somehow serves as a facial expression in the absence of these online?

Edited

i don’t have anyone in my life that would ever send this emoji for ANY reason aside from mistake or joke and i wouldnt, not for one second this they meant it maliciously
