Oasis

Are a Beatles tribute band.

Nothing wrong with that. Stuff they've done is quite catchy.

But basically, they're just riding on the coat tails of The Beatles.

Every tune or song they sing or write is reminiscent of the Beatles in their heyday. I like Oasis. Being a 60s child, I can see quite clearly that the Gallagher brothers have been heavily influenced by the Beatles.

And there's nothing wrong with that, either. Excepting that youngsters think that that Oasis have their own particular style of music. They don't. They pinched it from The Beatles.

If everyone made their own thread on Oasis we'd have hundreds of them. Read existing threads and join in, you don't need your own thread. Go and speak to the poster who'd rather 'stick pins in her eyes' - that'll keep you both occupied until Oasis inevitably split up again next week. 😬

Nah. Don't want to thanks. I want my very own thread.

No. I don't think so.

They were influenced by The Beatles, as were many fans.

But their music captured the zeitgeist of the 90s, there's no denying that.

Many of the songs are catchy, yes, but there's a few have real artistic merit.

I do, however, think all this hype is ridiculous.

I don't think it's about them. It's like anything these days, youngsters (and oldsters, evidently) are so desperate to be a "part of something". Nothing is ever just "good" anymore, everything is "legendary" or "iconic" and people get themselves worked up into such a tizz.

I think a lot of people who missed out on the Taylor Swift hype because they are not swifties, are jumping on the oasis bandwagon, just to feel involved and enjoy the hype and hysteria.

I don't know anybody that listens to oasis these days. But suddenly everyone is super fans?

Nah. Just mass hysteria.

Don't you all.
You're all just getting 'not another pointless thread' comments and/or will be ignored.

Yeah. Don't know why I didn't just say all that in the first place.
That's what I meant though.

That's not the case. I have read some enlightening posts. Well, one so far.

For what it's worth I know dozens of people who have tried to get tickets and they've got to the front of the queue and been either kicked off, or offered £300 plus tickets. Me too but I wasn't really bothered much. I have to do this for Glastonbury for my kids. This seemed less important.

I’m sorry you’re 30 years late. Or are you having your very own 90s revival by rehashing the Oasis - Beatles thing?

You're getting the tickets for your kids?

Yet you were queuing for tickets? Weird

See, in my day, queueing for tickets involved getting off your arse and taking a flask of coffee and sandwiches to the venue. Summer or Winter, go prepared.Get there at 5am for the best chance and make sure you have enough sustenance to get you through it.

Of course now, queueing for tickets is just sitting on your arse in your living room for hours waiting for the screen to change. Life was so much more exciting and invigorating then. You had to go forth! Go out! Leave the house!

You didn't get tickets by chance on the internet. You turned up early in person and were rewarded for that by getting the tickets you wanted.

Just having to roll out of bed to sign in to the booking platform isn't all that hard. Anybody can do it. Die hard fans are not recognised in that scenario.

It's the people who are prepared to put up with some hardship who deserve a place centre front. Not people sitting in their dressing gowns frantically refreshing their screen.

@SmashingPumps Is it Noel who’s more of a prick? He’s very dry though, I fancy him a bit

Ponoka7 · 01/09/2024 01:16

If it wasn't for racism and the restrictions on black artists, would Elvis have been that noticeable? He copied his hairstyle from Tony Curtis.
A lot of military tactics were influenced from the Romans and people like Ivar the boneless.
Painters and composers took inspiration from each other.
Have you looked up who the beatles copied? How they were told to keep their hands off underage girls because no-one else was and there was about to be a gap they could fill because of it? It's all marketing.

AnnikaSettergren · 01/09/2024 01:24

Love his work 😂

I'm still annoyed that they embraced Christianity. They really let us down.

TheChosenTwo · 01/09/2024 01:42

Okaaaaaayyy.
But the Beatles haven’t just released tickets to their tour have they? Maybe I missed the announcement 😂

Edingril · 01/09/2024 01:46

Who?

RedPalace · 01/09/2024 01:46

Oasis and the concerts are becoming the new Taylor Swift. Third of the people will hate them and the whole commercialisation, a third will be ardent fans and it's going to be the best thing ever, and the final third will claim to never have heard of them or know any of their songs

Hoping for a quiet Christmas before it all kicks off again next summer

Well, the opening to Don't Look Back in Anger is identical to Imagine. But to be honest, other than that, any similarity has passed me by. Although they themselves say they're influenced by them, so there you go.

They were the soundtrack to my youth (together with Blur) and my 13yo ds had started listening to them quite a lot, even before news of their reunion was announced. Dh hates them ("Whiney Mancunian band, the Gallaghers are pricks"), but I tried for tickets for me and ds. I was 209,000th in the queue at 9am and by the time I got anywhere, they had only VIP tickets left. I'd have loved to have seen them, but I'd set a ceiling of £100 per ticket.

They'll probably announce more dates in due course and the chaos will recommence.
