Abit annoyed at DH

Seatalteaxl · 31/08/2024 22:00

Need a little rant. I work on a Saturday so DH took Dd into town and bought her new wellies as old ones looking abit worse for wear. He reads her current shoe size which is a 9 upside down and has he trying on size sevens! Then he comes away with new wellies that are a size 9, which I know she’s going to grow out of in afew weeks as she’s been that size for ages and her size 9 trainers are now too tight. Aibu to think this is just a whole new level of uselessness they I don’t havr patience for after a long day. Arghh.

I don’t really understand the trying on size 7s but then he bought a 9?
So did he have her try on multiple sizes and choose the one that fit best?

IntrepidCat · 31/08/2024 22:03

But surely if she is currently a size 9, that’s what she needs to wear to be stable on her feet? It’s no good sizing up and her falling over because they are too big.

MammaGisAF · 31/08/2024 22:05

Can he exchange them? Failing that how much were they? If they were £5 chalk it up. If they were £25 I’d be more annoyed.

You could try selling them on once she grows out of them, although I appreciate that’s hassle for you and very little return.

MonsteraMama · 31/08/2024 22:06

Er... You're annoyed because he's bought her shoes in her current size?

So he thought she was size 6, tried her in 7s. Realised his mistake and bought the correct size? Nobody knows that she'll grow out of them quickly and you can surely just exchange them for the next size up if you think she will. I think you're being really harsh saying he's useless because he bought wellies in the size she is now

oapcarer · 31/08/2024 22:07

I tend to go a size up in wellies. I'd get him to exchange if tight

He thought it was a 6 so got her to try the next size up (7).
If he had realised it was a 9, he would have got her to try on a 10, presumably. Instead he settled on a 9, which is no bigger than her current pair.

Seatalteaxl · 31/08/2024 22:07

She’ll grow out of them in afew weeks. She needs a 10.

IntrepidCat · 31/08/2024 22:09

Given she is still a 9 at the moment and the difference between a 9 and 10 is minimal, I’m sure she will be fine in them for a while yet.

HowardTJMoon · 31/08/2024 22:09

"Wife outraged after husband buys child wellies that fit."

DoYouReally · 31/08/2024 22:10

He got her shoes in a size that fit.

Gross exaggeration calling that a whole new level of uselessness.

But she was trying on the wellies, so presumably he bought the ones that comfortably fitted. Obsessing over him misreading the label and making it the worst thing ever is really unnecessary. He tried on multiple sizes on her and realised his mistake, what a dick?

Automatically getting her a 10 because her trainers are a 9 is stupid, there’s no average time a child’s foot grows. All you can do is buy what is comfortable for them at the time, it could be outgrown in 6 weeks or 6 months, there is no way of knowing.

Why didn’t you ask him to get a size bigger than she is now, if that’s what you wanted?? Mis-reading the 9 for a 6 is no big deal surely ???

I can’t see what your issue is ?

edwinbear · 31/08/2024 22:17

Shoe sizes can be different in different shops though. So a 9 in trainers doesn’t necessarily translate to a 9 in wellies. Did he check she has some growing room in her new wellies or are her toes already tight?

I get the annoyance though - I sent DH with DD to buy new schools shoes a few years ago. DD was in a strange phase of pretending her feet were bigger than they were for some unknown reason. They came back with shoes about 3 sizes too big as DH has just trusted an 8 year old. She looked like a clown. So that was another job on my list to sort out.

Gentleness · 31/08/2024 22:18

Surely everyone knows you buy wellies at least one size up? You need space for warm socks and possibly warm insoles. I'm with you OP, I'd be annoyed.

And me.

Have the posters above ever bought wellies?

is there any reason why you didn't just tell him.... she needs a 10? im a bit confused why you are annoyed to be honest.. you sent him to buy new wellies, he bought a pair of wellies that were deemed suitable and fitted? why are you annoyed?

Izzymoon · 31/08/2024 22:24

Most young children wear wellies regularly in rainy weather, to nursery, to the park etc and are definitely not always wearing them with thick socks.

Personally I found having children in wellies a size up was really cumbersome for them abd difficult to play in.

LostittoBostik · 31/08/2024 22:25

Yes YABU.

I love a DH thread and this under delivered.

outdamnedspots · 31/08/2024 22:30

Surely dd knows what size her feet are so could tell Dad they were too tight??

Agree that you need to buy wellies in the size you are now - don't size up 🙄

Gentleness · 31/08/2024 22:18

Absolutely. Because, as we all know, whenever a shoe or boot says it's a size 9 you can be sure it's exactly the same size as all other size 9 shoes or boots.

People who get their children to actually try on a particular item of footwear to make sure it fits are clearly wasting their time. In fact, they're deliberately doing it to annoy their partners.

TinyYellow · 31/08/2024 22:33

He bought his child wellies that for her feet. He did nothing wrong. If you wanted wellies that are too big right now you should have said that.

This has all the hallmarks of the “mental load” and “selective incompetence”. Only OP can judge if this is uncharacteristic lapse on dh’s part or if he’s habitually useless in this way.

How is it useless to buy wellies that fit?
