Why does this sentence give me the rage?

I just want to type - No you are the only person in the history of forever to ever have this experience’

What sentence gives you the rage?

Mumistiredzzzz · 31/08/2024 21:48

Hahah I feel the same as so often what to reply 'no, you are the only person ever' 🤣🤣

Tulip8 · 31/08/2024 21:49

See also.... What size shoe is your 3 year old boy?

Answer- My 5 year old girl is size 9.

🙄

They mean anyone else in the "room" or the fb group or the mumsnet forum or whatever group of people they are speaking to. They are speaking to "you" and have an audience. They are not asking the entire world.

mynameiscalypso · 31/08/2024 21:53

I totally get where you're coming from especially if it's something incredibly ordinary and mundane.

Greytulips · 31/08/2024 21:53

@Mumistiredzzzz sole mate!

Yes! This. ‘I woke up this morning and the sky was blue, has anyone else experienced this?’ Ahhhh

I think people are feeling alone and looking for solidarity and reassurance.

AgileGreenSeal · 31/08/2024 21:56

They mean “can anyone else reading this relate personally to what has happened to me?” 🙄

they are looking for someone with a shared experience to talk to. 🤷🏼‍♀️

it’s not literally “Am I the only person ever on the planet to have had this sort of experience? “ 🤦‍♀️

EveryOtherNameTaken · 31/08/2024 21:58

No. Never experienced 'this'.

pictoosh · 31/08/2024 21:58

Can't say as it bothers me. It's just a way of seeking out people willing to elaborate on the topic or to provide reassurance.

overgrowntoddler · 31/08/2024 21:59

YABMU

@AgileGreenSeal has it nailed it.

If a way of asking for solidarity and to feel less alone.

Otherwise what is the point of a discussion forum.

It's just a turn of phrase.

Greytulips · 31/08/2024 22:02

Loving all the explanations ladies, I know what it means!!

It’s cringe worthy.

OP posts:
bakewellbride · 31/08/2024 22:04

I want a baby name that's a bit unique.

Name x is more unique than name y.

Ffs unique is an absolute term. Something is either unique or it's fucking not!

Crazycatlady79 · 31/08/2024 22:07

I experience rage when anyone uses "the rage" within a sentence.

overgrowntoddler · 31/08/2024 22:07

Ha! well there you go... only you know why to gives you the rage. Maybe it's a you problem rather than those who use it?

Why would you enraged by people seeking support and discourse with those affected by similar experiences?

You must be really intolerant.

TheClawDecides · 31/08/2024 22:11

When someone explains something piss simple, and they follow it up with "Does that make sense?"

Yes it does, because I'm not 2 years old with the IQ of a Smartie 😡

pictoosh · 31/08/2024 22:11

I think your adverse reaction to it is particular to you. There will be an association somewhere that triggers it.
It's not a notably cringeworthy phrase.

5128gap · 31/08/2024 22:17

"Some of these responses are wild" The very use of the word 'wild' annoys me as it conjures up young American MRAs who use more emojis than words. It makes me irrationally angry. To a lesser extent "its not that deep" entitled teens being dismissive now adopted by annoying adults.

Hahah I feel the same as so often what to reply 'no, you are the only person ever' 🤣🤣

Sometimes I do if I’m in a bad mood 😆 such a mindless phrase.

herecomesautumn · 31/08/2024 22:21

Yes it is annoying

On a par with "am I the only one who [insert mundane, everyday thing or thought]"

I see the culprits of these inanities have turned up on the thread

But of course other people can relate. They mean ‘anyone who has experienced this, come and advise’ or whatever. Not ‘has anyone ever’. Of course they have.

Yes I’m intolerant to that but pobody’s nerfect (that’s DH’s fume-inducing phrase 😄).

😀

The ‘Am I pregnant?’ ones.

Its not that deep

Or is it?

I think OP might be the only person to have experienced this 😐

TheClawDecides · 31/08/2024 22:32

Another expression that annoys me is "Are you me?"

No, I'm definitely not you because I went to the toilet and recognised my own knickers 😐
