£1 million or go back to the 90’s?

I’d choose to go back and do it all again.

I was 13-23, had an 80’s childhood and 90’s teens/young adult years.
Yes I know many say oh it’s just your youth, everyone feels the same, i‘m not sure if they do, It was an insane time to be young and naughty, we thought those days would last forever…the dancing to house music until 6 am, the booze and cigarettes, listening to indie & Brit pop in pubs, the music, the clothes, the films, the excitement and freedom
Me then, wouldn’t recognise me now

Definitely 1 million. If I had that my life now would be lovely with zero stress. I loved the 90s but I wouldn't go back. Nothing is ever the same when you go back, and it could spoil the memories. Plus, I don't think it was necessarily more fun for young people - my son seems to have had a pretty fun life since he went to uni and beyond.

maddening · 31/08/2024 20:48

Go back but memorise some lottery results.

Monka · 31/08/2024 20:51

£1 million please. I love my family and wouldn’t want to change them, especially my children

Spectre8 · 31/08/2024 20:55

I'd go back if I can keep the information I know now cos I loved my time in the 90s and I'd use my knowledge to invest in Facebook, uber and bitcoin and make far more than £1m.

pinkroses79 · 31/08/2024 20:55

I think the thing is you only remember the good parts. I look back with rose coloured glasses, but then I remember my wages were crap and there was no minimum wage, my school (admittedly in the 80s) wasn't as good as my children's is now, I worked in a bar and the smoke was horrendous, my parents divorced and my mum had no money and got no help, and various other things. The music was great, I met my children's dad, went to raves, stayed out all night and had a blast, but it wasn't perfect.

Alanfarthing · 31/08/2024 20:59

I'll take the money and live the rest of my life in peace. The latter end of the nineties was a horrific time for me and hasn't ever really got much better.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 31/08/2024 21:03

Had a bloody brilliant time then but would take the cash and enjoy my life now

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 31/08/2024 21:04

A million definitely.
the 90s sucked for me.

Ponoka7 · 31/08/2024 21:06

I spent the 90's trying to get pregnant. I'm glad that I was married and we were faithful so missed HIV. It would be pointless going back. I wish that we still had the pubs of the 2000's. I'll take the million.

RedToothBrush · 31/08/2024 21:06

I had an amazing time in the 90s. Did loads of cool stuff. Also was incredibly lonely and struggled with so many things.

I'd take the million.

You can't go back. Only forward. I could do some awesome amazing stuff with a million. Including pay off the mortgage.

But more importantly I have people to do it with.

Juliet194 · 01/09/2024 00:24

I'll take the million, no question.

Off to look at rightmove with my hypothetical million now!

Galadriell · 01/09/2024 00:36

Every generation looks back on their youth with rose-tinted spectacles.

Hmm, I'd agree about the 60, 70s, 80s, etc, but all we hear on here nowadays is how hard it is for today's youth. No chance of getting on property ladder, how the boomers messed everything up and don't realise how good they had it, etc etc.

I mean, what youths were living their best life through the covid years?

Galadriell · 01/09/2024 00:38

But it's amazing how many people would rather take a million than go back and buy shares in Apple/bet on matches they know the results to, etc. You could be a young millionaire so easily.

LipstickOnHisGuitar · 01/09/2024 00:43

I'd hate to go back to pre 1999. I hated my childhood, it was the most miserable time of my life. Life began for me in when I escaped to uni in 1999.

peachgreen · 01/09/2024 00:47

I’d go back, but only if I can guarantee I’d end up with my DD. Otherwise £1m now please.

rubeelum · 01/09/2024 00:56

I’d do it again too op

Appledoughnut · 01/09/2024 00:58

I barely survived it the first time round, I don't want to do it again. I'll take the money.

kirbykirby · 01/09/2024 01:25

I'd pay a million to go back to the 90s.

Juliet194 · 01/09/2024 11:39

@Galadriell

Because going back to the 90s would mean reliving some very painful times for me. There were some good times too, but no amount of money would make me want to go back. I have built myself a peaceful cosy life with people I love now, and that is priceless.

I also would not want to have to go through covid again!!

keffie12 · 01/09/2024 17:54

God no! I wouldn't want to do any of my life over, though would from when I met my 2nd husband in 2003.

My childhood was what they call today affluent neglect/abuse which I recreated in adulthood with the ex husband.

I don't think I need to say anymore as to why

Bellamari · 01/09/2024 18:06

I’d take the time machine and relive my 12 year relationship with the love of my life. I know I’d still end up bereaved and heartbroken, but I’d do anything just to have five more minutes together. I’ve started crying now because I usually try not to think about it.

RavenhairedRachel · 01/09/2024 18:08

Definitely take the million I didn't think th 90s were as good as the 70s . My kids were born in the 90s so I was too busy to notice. My best time was the 70s. I would go back to those times like a shot. No mobile phones , no land line for that matter. If your mate wanted to contact you, you would have to stand outside the phone box at a certain time. No Internet if you needed to know anything you looked it up at the library or asked your parents or grandparents. Life was oh so simple. No takeaways except from fish and chips if you were very lucky . Obesity wasn't a thing then for adults or kids. We ate what Mum cooked take it or leave it. We had sweets once a week my Grandma would give us 10p each to spend at the shop across the road we thought we were millionaires. We would play out, make dens chalk a hopscotch on the road ,make perfume from flower petals. Make mud pies , dig worms up for my friends dad to take fishing . Kids were rarely ill and you never heard of allergies. We were taught manners and to respect our elders. A major crime would be pinching apples from someone's orchard and woe betide you if you got caught. Street crime was never a problem your dad only had to mention telling the local bobby and you would quake in your shoes. To think it was 50 years ago .God knows what it will be like in another 50 years. Im glad ill not be around to find out. Yes take me back to the 70's and leave me there.

LittleRedYarny · 01/09/2024 18:09

Do you mean time travel back and relive the 90s at the age you are now with the knowledge you have now? Hell yeah!

if you mean go back the the 90s an be the age I was then and go through it all again… I will take the £1million please Bob.
