AIBU to believe that the cost of living crisis is a load of nonsense

So I wake up this morning to find that 14 million people are trying for Oasis tickets. A mediocre rock band and a “reunion” tour just to create a retirement fund for two already multi-millionaires.

The question is - where are so many people getting the money from to buy tickets? On one hand people moan about the “cost of living” but can easily find £500 to fund this nonsense.

Madness.

People should stop moaning about the cost of living if they can waste money on things like this. They are either getting too much income from their job/benefits (if they can afford this) to complain about “cost of living” or they should stop moaning about increasing food/fuel prices!

Rant over!

Oh dear oh dear, please don’t tell me you actually bought that?

I've just ordered one with my benefits, thanks OP. I'm going to call her Mary in your honour 🙂

midgetastic · 31/08/2024 16:02

All the ( poverty ) experts seem to agree that it's around £50 per person per week for healthy food and a proper diet

If you manage on way less then perhaps your diet isn't as good as you believe ?

You sound like you're well -educated OP, but unfortunately as thick as pig shit. Quite common in those on the far right.

She sounds about as well educated as a pig at a banquet who can't reach the table would be well fed.

@MaryWils24 they're winding you up, no one would admit to buying it

You can be well-educated but stupid (see most of the previous government)

For goodness sake, benefits should be a minimum safety net. For food, heat and medical essentials only. If benefits can fund lavish decorations then obviously they are far too high.

Oh, keep it coming love, every post us absolutely comedy gold.

Fact. Poor people keep the economy turning because poor people have to spend every penny they do have straight back into the economy. And if they didn't occasionally buy "tat" in Primark and Pound land et al the economy would collapse. They're not offshoring their surplus money nor employing accountants to practise tax avoidance. Nor are they bribing planning departments to ensure their property portfolios expand. Nor are they enjoying subsidised meals in the HoC Nor claiming for second homes. Money is just a tool you know, not a badge of honour.

Actually normal people without their heads inside their ops arse have a thing called personality. They have interesting quirky pieces in their house that make them smile. I know poor people aren't allowed to smile in your world but thank goodness we don't live in your world!

I'm not winding anyone up, I really did buy it, and I love it.

It would be a boring world if we all liked the same things.

That's exactly my point. Just as the full table is no use to the pig who lacks ability to reach it, the best education is of no use to a person who lacks capacity to absorb it.

@FatmanandKnobbin Whatever it really cost you, add a few noughts on please.

BCBird · 31/08/2024 16:21

I wanted a ticket. I'm.54 mortgage free(starter home) single and no dependents, full time teacher, therefore I could afford a ticket. The COL crisis has not changed my spending particularly. I am.fully aware that many people, including members of my family, are severely impacted by COL crisis. I'm.surprised you think the scramble for tickers indicates there is not a crisis.

That lamp is gorgeous. Makes ours look very tame, they’re ducks and hares.

With your tax money, and my frivolous spending it was a joint effort.

I think this gotta be one of the most stupid posts I have read in here in a long while.

Read the sunglasses one and you may change your mind.

MaryWils24 · 31/08/2024 16:25

If your lamp makes you happy then I’m not here to judge you on it. I guess you’re being more sensible buying a lamp to have light in your home than wasting money on concert tickets, so long as it is of a good quality and lasts then it is a good investment.

I had a look.

It’s £55. I am quite partial on occasion to tacky paraphernalia. But this one is a bit ugly for me!

MaryWils24 · 31/08/2024 09:39

Well it is true. If millions of people can buy tickets for Oasis then they can easily pay a bit more for their food and fuel without moaning.

Not RTFT but I kind of get your point. Obviously it's different people, and some people can ride out the cost of living crisis easily to ok - but it does make you wonder where people get their money from when they can afford to have an expensive car or have multiple pets.

The vast majority of people live within their means and have enough left over each month for savings or treats etc I don't think the vast majority of people live within their means, I think a lot shove everything on credit cards or remortgage their houses or have lease arrangements for their cars.
