AIBU to believe that the cost of living crisis is a load of nonsense

So I wake up this morning to find that 14 million people are trying for Oasis tickets. A mediocre rock band and a “reunion” tour just to create a retirement fund for two already multi-millionaires.

The question is - where are so many people getting the money from to buy tickets? On one hand people moan about the “cost of living” but can easily find £500 to fund this nonsense.

Madness.

People should stop moaning about the cost of living if they can waste money on things like this. They are either getting too much income from their job/benefits (if they can afford this) to complain about “cost of living” or they should stop moaning about increasing food/fuel prices!

Rant over!

Fabulous, you've solved the COL crisis.

Some people can afford things, therefore nobody has any issues.

Great start to the weekend, I'll just go off and be rich now. Cheers op.

MichaelAndEagle · 31/08/2024 09:39

Maybe they are not the same people....just a thought.

MaryWils24 · 31/08/2024 09:39

Well it is true. If millions of people can buy tickets for Oasis then they can easily pay a bit more for their food and fuel without moaning.

I understand where you're coming from but it's always been the way. There are plenty of people who can afford the tickets and plenty who want to go so much who'll bankrupt themselves just about.

MaryWils24 · 31/08/2024 09:39

@MichaelAndEagle Oh it will be.

Whilst I appreciate some don’t, most people have some level of disposable income and can choose to save / spend it how they wish. Just because you wouldn’t do the same as them doesn’t mean they have too much or waste their money!

Tel12 · 31/08/2024 09:40

I think that you will find that the people waiting for supermarket staff to apply yellow labels and those funding Oasis retirement are not the same.

Figgygal · 31/08/2024 09:40

What nonsense
There's some people better off than others that's why some can barely feed themselves or their kids and others are packing out restaurants and oasis gigs

araiwa · 31/08/2024 09:40

No avocado
No latte
No oasis

No problems

Genius!

lifebyfaith · 31/08/2024 09:41

I would hazard a pretty good guess that the people buying tickets aren't overly affected by the cost of living crisis!

There are wealthy people and there are struggling people. And the majority are in between.

It's not difficult to understand really.

This.

Frowningprovidence · 31/08/2024 09:42

Perhaps they are different people.

But more seriously, the impact of the cost if living crisis is not even.

WonderingWanda · 31/08/2024 09:42

There are almost 67 million people in the UK. 14 million of them live in poverty. It also seems 14 million of them don't and can afford to buy tickets for a band.

MaryWils24 · 31/08/2024 09:42

@AgnesX Yeah true. A lot of credit cards getting hammered today.

You have to wonder about some people’s financial stupidity. Happy to buy tickets they can’t afford (funding a millionaire’s retirement) yet will accrue interest on that same credit card when they can’t afford the repayments. And then moan about a cost of living.

I bet a lot of people who moan about the cost of living only have themselves blame through wasteful spending like this.

Many of the demographic who are keen to go to the Oasis reunion - mid 40s to early 60s may be somewhat insulated from the COL. Many will have a small or no mortgage, some will be in higher paid jobs, their children will be older or even left home.

Pandasnacks · 31/08/2024 09:43

Isn't there around 66 million people in the UK? Did you think all of them were claiming to suffer from the cost of living crisis? I don't like Oasis either and don't get the hype over them at all, but your post lacks so basic understanding of the economy. The poorest won't have been buying tickets.

alwaysmovingforwards · 31/08/2024 09:43

Fact 1) cost of living crisis is real due to inflation eroding spending power due to wage increases not keeping up.

Fact 2) how people choose to spend their disposable income is up to them.

So if you read a headline that there’s a CoL crisis, did you then assume that nobody in the country has a £500 budget?!?
You seem either confused about how basic statistics are headlined, or very naive about how personal expenditure works at an individual level.
(or just a bit miffed that you personally don’t like oasis / can’t afford the tickets and dressed up your post accordingly…)

Ella31 · 31/08/2024 09:44

I might be wrong about this many people for tickets could be overseas too. A ton of people going to the TS concerts were from abroad and making weekends of it

DinoGD · 31/08/2024 09:44

Also tickets for a concert is a one off payment.. The ever growing costs of fuel, food, other bills etc are an ongoing every day occurrence! It's one thing to be able to find a few hundred pounds to fund what could be once in a lifetime event for someone, VS having to find that money every single day/week/month......

It's true that the COL crisis is not universal, but the reason it's in the news is that those struggling are struggling more than previously ie those at the bottom are sinking further.

Your comment is a bit like saying "Some people are going on long haul holidays therefore the COL crisis is ficticious". Sure, a few people are spending money they don't have, but mostly it's not the same people as those who turn up at the food bank every week.

Reallybadidea · 31/08/2024 09:45

Haha you sound like my parents who denied that the early 90s recession was real because Sainsbury's was still busy on a Saturday 😂

BibbityBobbityToo · 31/08/2024 09:45

The vast majority of people live within their means and have enough left over each month for savings or treats etc.

However, the people who are extremely poor, either due to not enough income coming in or too much going out, live in total poverty and the COL has totally tipped them over into crisis point. Even if that is only 1% of the population, that still a hell of a lot of people affected.

Nuggetnuggety · 31/08/2024 09:45

Fabulous, you've solved the COL crisis.

Yep @MaryWils24 for PM
