AIBU to believe that the cost of living crisis is a load of nonsense

So I wake up this morning to find that 14 million people are trying for Oasis tickets. A mediocre rock band and a “reunion” tour just to create a retirement fund for two already multi-millionaires.

The question is - where are so many people getting the money from to buy tickets? On one hand people moan about the “cost of living” but can easily find £500 to fund this nonsense.

Madness.

People should stop moaning about the cost of living if they can waste money on things like this. They are either getting too much income from their job/benefits (if they can afford this) to complain about “cost of living” or they should stop moaning about increasing food/fuel prices!

Rant over!

@FatmanandKnobbin Yes, but then they end up paying interest on that Credit Card (because they default on their payments) and end up worse off financially. The vicious cycle continues…

I think it was Helen Bosenquet who said there were two types of poverty. The “deserving poor” (who are in hardship through no fault of their own) and the “undeserving poor” (whose poverty is the result of their own decisions).

Those buying Oasis tickets and then moaning about the Cost of Living fall into the latter category.

how do you know that those buying tickets are affected/poor due to the COL crisis? it affects many but then, millions in this country are fine and not destitute. How on earth do you claim to know which cohort is buying tickets? I tell you, you don't (and you are largely talking out of your arse).

You're literally making up scenarios in order to piss yourself off.

You've totally invented these people who are complaining about the COL paying £500 on a credit card to get oasis tickets and then defaulting on their payments. There hasn't been time for any payment defaults aside from anything else.

samarrange · 31/08/2024 10:02

@MaryWils24 You are Damon Albarn and I claim my five pounds.

MonsteraMama · 31/08/2024 10:02

This is such an embarrassing thread lmao, imagine actually typing this out and thinking "fuck yeah, I don't sound like an out of touch moron at all!". Bet you're one of those people who spouted bollocks about "if millennials stopped drinking lattes and eating avocados they'd be able to buy houses" aren't you? Think the poor peasants should do nothing but work eat and sleep, how dare they want nice things too the ungrateful peons?

BananaPeanutToast · 31/08/2024 10:04

MaryWils24 · 31/08/2024 09:42

@AgnesX Yeah true. A lot of credit cards getting hammered today.

You have to wonder about some people’s financial stupidity. Happy to buy tickets they can’t afford (funding a millionaire’s retirement) yet will accrue interest on that same credit card when they can’t afford the repayments. And then moan about a cost of living.

I bet a lot of people who moan about the cost of living only have themselves blame through wasteful spending like this.

The people I know buying them are all 40s/50s well off with good jobs and no need to spank a credit card.

Some people just have a lot of money and are unaffected by COL increases. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t cripple those with absolutely no leeway in finances.

MaryWils24 · 31/08/2024 10:04

I have saw it with my own eyes. People who ordinary complain about about the Cost of Living then suddenly are buying tickets for this.

Crikey, god forbid anyone spend any of their hard-earned income having FUN. Is people going on holiday also evidence that there's no cost-of-living crisis? rolls eyes so hard they fall out

Waggytail · 31/08/2024 10:05

OP your posts are like a cut and paste out of the Daily Mail comments section. Embarrassing really.

99RedBallonz · 31/08/2024 10:05

Its very unlikely to be 14 million people, it will be 14 million hits to the site. Including genuine buyers from all over the world, some of them clicking away repeatedly like my nan trying to open her Web browser on her 15 year old laptop. Some people will have multiple devices logged on, but the majority are probably coming from bots trying to snap them up faster than anyone else.

If they want to go and can afford it, why is it ‘wasteful spending’? Should they only spend their disposable cash on things you like? The economy would come to a complete standstill if people only spent on necessities.

Solonga · 31/08/2024 10:07

People do moan about the cost of living, usually those with money but they still moan as it's the thing to moan about, don't mean they don't go on holiday or concerts though, they just don't like spending money on utilities and food, unless it's eating out or takeaways of course

Bromptotoo · 31/08/2024 10:07

NO.

Hope this helps!!

AnonymousBleep · 31/08/2024 10:07

Why the Random Capitalisation from the OP? Is that also something they did in Victorian times, when (rich) people originally touted the (now very much discredited and actually quite vile) concept of the deserving/undeserving poor?

LongLiveTheLego · 31/08/2024 10:08

MaryWils24 · 31/08/2024 09:46

I could afford the tickets (though I don’t want them obvs!), but it is from what I have read on Facebook this morning baffles me. People who complain about the cost of living all the time suddenly have found the money for this. Doesn’t make sense to me…

It's doesn't make sense to you because you are not intelligent enough to understand the very basics of economic principles. Maybe go back to reading FB posts about lost cats and enjoy a nice cup of tea.

DoctorLove · 31/08/2024 10:08

Have a day off Mary.

MaryWils24 · 31/08/2024 10:08

To be honest, I wouldn’t even know Liam or Noel Gallagher if I was standing next to them in the street. No idea about them. My mum got me waiting in this queue since 8am this morning for these tickets and I can’t for the life of me understand the hype around them. Nonsense really.

I'm friends with a couple who live on minimum wage. No kids. They struggle day to day but put away about £20 a month to pay for their yearly holiday in their camper van

They aren't camping next year. They are seeing Oasis. Doesn't detract from the fact they find food and utilities take up most of their income.

rainingsnoring · 31/08/2024 10:08

You've solved everyone's financial problems just like that. Amazing!
Never heard of credit?

DollopOfFun · 31/08/2024 10:09

So you know a few scallies who normally complain about being skint but are willing to buy Oasis tickets.

That doesn't mean that the CoL isn't real. It doesn't mean that everyone buying Oasis tickets is a scally who can't afford it.

It just means that you know a few scallies who normally complain about being skint but are willing to buy Oasis tickets.

5128gap · 31/08/2024 10:09

Round of applause OP, you've discovered wealth inequality! Unfortunately, you've mistaken it for something else entirely, the absence of the cost of living crisis, but still, its a start.

StMarieforme · 31/08/2024 10:09

So because 14m people want tickets there's no COL crisis?

Are you a Tory MP?!

mitogoshi · 31/08/2024 10:10

I'm not affected by the col crisis as mortgage is paid off and have substantial household income. I'm trying to buy tickets (and failing)

NotSleepingWell · 31/08/2024 10:10

There’ll be ppl buying then reselling for hundreds if not thousand of £. Smart move, if immoral. You can put it on a card and save up for your fuel bills.

LynetteScavo · 31/08/2024 10:10

OP, it is possible to be pissed off with my money not going as far as it would 10 years ago (I work in the public sector and am effectively paid a lot less than I was 10 years ago, so inflation calculator tells me) and still be able to go on holiday/and or to concerts. I even go to Nando's occasionally, much to my mothers horror; "people can't be that hard up if they can afford to eat out of the house".

Bigcatpaws · 31/08/2024 10:10

MaryWils24 · 31/08/2024 09:39

Well it is true. If millions of people can buy tickets for Oasis then they can easily pay a bit more for their food and fuel without moaning.

Well these are the richer people who don’t moan about the cost of living crisis, then.

You make a huge generalisation
