To think only a monster would claim a reward for returning a missing pet

Surely any decent human would refuse unless absolutely desperate for food or something

Why ?

If someone found my missing pet and returning it to be I would insisting they have the money.

NoTicket · 29/08/2024 13:00

Sorry what? Why would it make you a monster?

redtrain123 · 29/08/2024 13:01

What’s the situation? Surely a bottle of wine wouldn’t go amiss, or are they asking for £££?

LoremIpsumCici · 29/08/2024 13:01

If a reward was offered, they should get it.

Numsmetty · 29/08/2024 13:01

No, monsters keep them and use them as bait in dog fights.

ThisHangryPinkBalonz · 29/08/2024 13:02

If you offer a reward, you should pay it. You're a CF otherwise.

HotCrossBunplease · 29/08/2024 13:02

If you offer a reward you expect to pay it!

Rewo · 29/08/2024 13:03

Don’t offer a reward if you don’t want to give it.
i had a reward years ago, I didn’t bring it up, she said oh my gosh the reward! I said you sure? She was like buy yourself something lovely type thing, she was happy, I was happy the dog was smelly but happy!

Agreed.

If I've offered a reward and someone returned my pet there's no way I'd let them leave without the reward even if it was by insisting they donate it to an animal charity of something if they didn't want it.

itsmabeline · 29/08/2024 13:03

Don't be ridiculous.

If you post a reward it's normal for people to take that at face value and accept it.

OptimismvsRealism · 29/08/2024 13:04

I don't even have a pet I just think taking a reward for doing a basic humane act is an arsehole move

This

FatmanandKnobbin · 29/08/2024 13:04

My insurance offers a £500 reward and money for posters and stuff.

It wouldn't be monsterous to claim it at all.

In fact a dog around here went missing and loads of people put in the time and effort precisely because the reward was fairly high.

Redshoeblueshoe · 29/08/2024 13:04

If someone offers a reward they should honour it.

HaPPy8 · 29/08/2024 13:04

I see what you mean to an extent ….Maybe not a monster …. But if I found something someone lost I wouldn’t want them to give me something to return it, it’s kind of just the decent thing to do!

GasPanic · 29/08/2024 13:04

Maybe they put some effort in. Like chased the animal, or risked getting bitten or scratched. Then plodded all the way to your house to return it.

If someone doesn't want someone claiming a reward then they shouldn't offer it, rather than offering it and moaning when someone actually takes it.

If one isn't offered it may reduce the probability of the pet being found though.

Moltenpink · 29/08/2024 13:04

I’d take it. I like money

ReadWithScepticism · 29/08/2024 13:05

If a reward is offered, why not accept it? I wouldn't accept a reward from a dog owner who was not wealthy, but that's only because I am lucky enough to have money that covers all my needs. If I was short of money (not desperate and starving, but just short of what I needed), I would accept a reward that was covered by insurance.

I would also accept a reward from any crazily rich person that was offering one, especially if it was £££££Grin

Of course it would be positively utterly joyful to reunite a dog with its owner even without a reward. But both would still be nice

OhmygodDont · 29/08/2024 13:05

I mean if you’ve gone out of your way to help search for their missing pet it’s a finders fee look at it that way.

SatansBobbleheadedDashboardOrnament · 29/08/2024 13:05

If you offered a reward, expect to pay up. It isn't a magical phrase you can stick on a poster and presume everyone will ignore. Besides, you don't know what level of effort they made to actually look for your pet.

Chaiilatte · 29/08/2024 13:05

I don't think so. Maybe they saw the missing poster and spent hours / days to look for the missing animal? Why even offer the reward if you will begrudge giving it.

Redshoeblueshoe · 29/08/2024 13:06

But if I hadn't seen the reward I might not know that the pet was missing.

Procrastinates · 29/08/2024 13:06

OptimismvsRealism · 29/08/2024 13:04

Well you can think that but your wrong. It's not an arsehole act at all and to be honest part of why you think that is probably because you don't have a much loved pet so you can't imagine how it would feel to lose them and how grateful you would be to get them back.

IceStationZebra · 29/08/2024 13:06

It is not mandatory to offer a reward, but if you do then it makes sense to then provide the reward…

Waitingfordoggo · 29/08/2024 13:06

I probably wouldn’t accept a reward in these circumstances, but it’s hardly monstrous to do so.
