To be freaked out about what DD is saying.

Outandabout43 · 27/08/2024 20:27

On holiday with DD just gone 4 and DSS. DD has just come to me and said mummy I have a question. I asked her what the question was and she asked if she could go to the beach she went to with her other mummy. I asked who her other mummy was and she went on to tell me her other mummy was jody and she lived in a big house, she said she had 2 mummy's at her other mummy's house. She went on to say it was next to the beach and she flew a kite when it was really windy, it blew away and other mummy couldn't catch it. She said her other mummy had a baby in her tummy and the doctor had to pull it out.

I answered by telling her we can go to the beach tomorrow, but the one by the caravan. She said okay, I've got no more questions I'm going to bed now 🤷‍♀️

Don’t be freaked out? Your no.3 has made me too fricking scared to let the dog out 😩 It’s hideous!

Sorry about that! But it was just a figment of a kooky little girl’s imagination - nothing at all to worry about! Let the poor bugger out!

Noseybookworm · 27/08/2024 22:14

I wouldn't be freaked out, little children have very active imaginations! Could be from a dream or a story she's heard or just something she's dreamed up herself, or a combination of these.

Veryoldandtired · 27/08/2024 22:20

Children remember their past lives. Big deal. I remembered mine too.

I don't believe in reincarnation, despite having read lots of similar stories. However, we are all recycled. Every atom of us was part of something else before and will be part of something else after we're gone. Is it possible that some atoms are capable of retaining something of us? I doubt it but I don't think I could state it's impossible.

Genuine question, with past lives, why does it seem that a disproportionate number of people were handmaidens to Cleopatra, or Viking princesses, or Aztec sacrifices, or on the Titanic? Why aren’t there many people who were agricultural labourers in the arse end of nowhere who never did anything or went anywhere?

Also, how does it square with there being more people alive today than have ever been alive in the history of mankind?

Yet still more dead people than alive people

Take her to see Coraline for National Cinema Day. That'll soon knock the idea of "Other Mummy" on the head! Wink

Louise303 · 27/08/2024 22:26

It might be from a movie, something heard from a school friend or a dream especially when excited about going on holiday. I do like the series ghost in my child though some great reincarnation stories. One story was about a little boy in India that worried his parents so much they travelled with him 200 miles to a remote village he said his family lived in. When they got there he knew everyone's names he said the owner of the house was his wife he even described this mans death. The strangest bit was when he lifted a rug removed part of the floor to find a box with money in it. It was like this woman's deceased husband wanted her to have the money he saved.

Mypuppyismad · 27/08/2024 22:27

Oh that’s intriguing especially given the things she mentioned probably won’t be things she has had experience of yet? Same sex couples snd maybe pregnancy complications. I would be interested rather than spooked.

stichguru · 27/08/2024 22:35

Could she be a bit envious of her brother having two mums, so have made up another for herself? Like assuming that she doesn't see anything negative, like her brother's mum fighting with you or your husband, then she might have made the other mum up to be like her brother?!

NoProblems · 27/08/2024 22:36

Is there any "proof" or "hard evidence" that the vastly different stories little children tell are their imaginations?

Or is "proof" or "hard evidence" only demanded from those who believe in reincarnation, that is in past lives?

I 100% believe in reincarnation.

I have no idea if any of the stories are true or imagination, but I wouldn't write them off as imagination straight away. I would try to find out more, but only from what the child says naturally without any prompting.

I have see many comments saying that since there are far more humans now than before, they couldn't all have had past lives.

That opinion ignores at least two things.

First, it is the soul which reincarnates, not the body. According to some beliefs, the soul can reincarnate into any species, not necessarily the same as their previous life.

Humans here have increased, but what about the billions from other species which have died?

Second, what if there are humans in other parts of the universe who could be reincarnating here for whatever reason?

Has she watched the Amityville Horror?!?

Jody talks to the little girl.

That's was scary Jody the red eyed pig hopefully if it is about a beach could be Jody Fosters beach scene in the Movie contact. An older sibling or cousin may have been watching and she picked up on the name.

hardtocare · 27/08/2024 22:40

Kids that age talk shit constantly. Humour her or don't but don't humour yourself

Balloonhearts · 27/08/2024 22:40

I did the same as a child but actually still have the 'memories' or whatever they are. Only going up to a certain point though to the accident when I 'died' I suppose if you believe in that sort of thing.

Seems rather unlikely that a 4 year old would have a) watched Contact, and b) known that the character was played by an actress called Jodie.

This is reminding me of Birdie Friend from some years ago...

CautiousLurker · 27/08/2024 22:47

Has she maybe been read a story book at school about a little girl with two mummies (one with a baby in her tummy) who live by the beach? Being on holiday by the beach may have just triggered the memory of that book and she’d got a bit confused.

OldCrocks · 27/08/2024 22:50

It's a developmental stage. One of mine talked in vivid detail about his "before life" and another swore dh wasn't his father and that his "real daddy" lived with our ndn (she was a widow, no men in the household). In cultures that believe in reincarnation, such children are celebrated. Here, where we mostly don't, they still say these things and later grow out of them.

Bunbry · 27/08/2024 22:51

Is it a good time to mention that I was born a Rothschild and was switched at birth?

Meadowwild · 27/08/2024 22:51

Don't a lot of children have imaginary friends? My imaginary friend had a granny who lived in a cottage near a waterfall not far from where I grew up. She always burned the cakes when she was cooking. If we walked past that cottage I genuinely thought she was in there, forgetting her baking!

That's so true a lot of the reincarnation stories told by adults seem to be someone famous not just a regular person. There is a great movie yesterdays children about a woman Jenny Cockell that started getting memories when pregnant. She pointed out her village In Ireland when supposed to be a woman called Mary Sutton that died in childbirth. Jenny travelled to Ireland and met up with Marys children who were all adopted after her death. They believed her she knew things only they would know Mary was a woman that lived in poverty with an abusive husband.

When DC was tiny they used to say “ I wrote that” to songs on the radio they liked. One day I said, “did you, I thought xxx did?”
Dc said, “no Mummy, I wrote it, but xxx , he was there”.

-same child freaked their dad out by recounting a passed life one bedtime- lot going on in that little head

Stresshead84x · 27/08/2024 22:57

My son used to tell me about his nother mum and dad- he had so many stories then one day he told me they were getting chased and they got shot and his nother dad died and he was in hospital after that he didn't really talk about them- freaked me out!

Kids have got amazing imaginations.
We don't get scared when they tell us they were a tiger or ate an iceberg or just got back from the moon.

This stuff is no different.
They are little sponges and absorb more than we realise. combine that with imagination and you've got really quite amazing stories.

But that's all they are.

They convince themselves it is real my son told all of the teachers and his class I was having a baby boy when he was six. I kept getting congratulated when I told him I was not having a baby he cried and said you are you told me he even had a name for the baby.
