These teachers and their questionable choices

Whitesparkled123 · 27/08/2024 08:44

1 of these teachers is a mum at my DC school and she doesn't teach at the school. One of them is a teacher at my DC school and the other is a teacher at another school. They are all friends with each other. I'm trying to be vague as this could be outing.

I'm not really that close to them but know of their partying lifestyle. All 3 have children. They often go to raves, parties and do drugs. I found out last week that 1 of them held a party and couldn't find childcare so left their children in their home whilst partying at the bottom of their garden (which is quite far). They were all there and were all on drugs. The school mum host got people to take it in turns to watch the children. Often after they have been out and are on come downs they have their children.

I've just seen one of them has been to a well known event in London. Her whole family went including the children. She's posted pics and her youngest DC is asleep on the floor (it was held on the streets). I'm shocked. I just think why would you put your own needs above those of your children.
But what can I do? I can't actually prove any of this. Plus I'm not ok with them being teachers and coming into work on the Monday with a potential come down.

Being a teacher here is irrelevant. If you think their children are at risk of harm then contact SS. If not then stop gossiping.

Sorry I don't find being a teacher is irrelevant. These teachers are setting an example to children. Also they are being paid to look after other peoples children.
If they seem more interested in taking drugs and partying then looking after their own children how well is it öikely they will be interested in other peoples children's welfare.
Obviously they still maybe great at teacging tjeir subject.Teaching is also about teaching values and social behaviour.Have we come so far that we as a society find this normal behaviour?

Does this need editing or have you been to one of those parties?

SPAG much?

Well they may or may not be . But class A drugs are addictive whether you want to admit it or not and who knows whether the teachers concerned are reliant upon them to function. Personally I do not want to take that risk with my children thanks. And despite the " cool girl , let's look down on the sad squares who are not in our hip and trendy gang " sneering I think most people feel the same .

Some Class A drugs are addictive, yes.

The sneering is mainly at the OP’s embellishment. And the gossip.

I’m not nit picking.

I’m implying the OP is embellishing.

But with safe guarding you can’t assume the person is exaggerating or embellishing. You write down the information that is given and decide to investigate or leave on file. Come on. You all know this.

Teachers are people.

You seem over invested in other peoples lives

Mind your own business

Bontonbonbon · 27/08/2024 11:05

OP- just to help the thread along. Can you confirm that you’ve seen them taking drugs? Absolutely confirm you are certain they are taking drugs.

IMO- the party at the bottom of the garden (without drug taking) and attending Notting Hill Carnival are not big deals and no school DSL would think so. The drugs are the thing.

I wonder if this thread is actually proving that MN is indeed Londoncentric? The acceptance of drug taking within professional careers is interesting.

Ah, drugs are another thing that only exist in London. That’ll be why Trainspotting was set there.

If you are concerned, speak to the Governors.

Because from what I saw op had no evidence. She saw or heard something through a grapevine. She is clutching pearls that accompanied kids went to Notting Hill Carnival. She is very clearly exagerrating and has issues around teachers a having a life outside school.

Again that’s your opinion. You have no clue what the OP knows and doesn’t know.

She has given some vague details to protect her identity I assume, but the upshot of the question seems to be ….., should I tell someone if I’ve seen a teacher taking class A drugs at a party and it is my belief she does it regularly and it’s impairing her ability to care for her kids? Well my answer to that would be yes. If that teacher wanted to protect herself from potentially vexatious claims then they should do what most teachers do and lock down their social media.

Nobodywouldknow · 27/08/2024 11:10

I would be extremely concerned about any parent doing coke and pills while in charge of a child (or just in general, these are class A substances). I’d be particularly concerned if the person was a teacher. All the cool girls on this thread saying that it’s normal and just winding down are on another planet

miniaturepixieonacid · 27/08/2024 11:11

I'm certainly in no position to be judging anyone else's lifestyle or behaviour but I do think the teachers need to be a whole lot more careful and discreet. Openly admitting to taking drugs in the presence of a parent at the school where you teach is really, really stupid.

A couple of very young staff at the school where I teach did get immediate dismissal for taking cocaine a few years ago. But it's an independent school so I don't know if the process could be so quick or direct in a state school. Might be a disciplinary or a warning first. But it wouldn't be pleasant either way.

Globules · 27/08/2024 11:15

This is the first thread I've seen on MN where posters are, in the majority, not condemning drug use.

Such double standards.

SadieDadie · 27/08/2024 09:41

Did you read all of the thread? She has been with them when they do this, but not taken it herself. She hears them openly speak about it.

And yet has done nothing about it - what does the OP want from this thread? If they felt there was cause for concern there is nothing to stop them reporting it SS or NSPCC without all this faux hand wringing.

In practice we have the main concerns being a party of some sort held in the householders' garden and going to a major public event along with thousands of other families.

If the OP has seen them neglecting the children in some way or using illegal drugs then they need to take the former to SS/NSPCC and the latter to the police. ie they need to put up or shut up.

ijustneedtokeepbreathing · 27/08/2024 11:17

FFS. You can't micro manage people's lives. Teachers are humans too.

The bigger question is why do you care so much about this op? What does that tell you about you life?

LevelledPeach · 27/08/2024 11:19

Teachers are as free to take Class A drugs as anyone else is, i.e. not at all, really.

Still, their choice and I don't see how their profession is relevant.

Do what you would do for anyone else. Call the Social Services and the Police. If that sounds ridiculous to you, then just drop it.

I'm not debating that. I simply said it's funny how these threads go when it's a DH using coke, everyone says LTB.

Unless you match each poster who doesn't condemn drug use against their views where they do so, then your post is meaningless.

No, any such concerns go to the head first. This is because the head will conduct an investigation and governors must remain impartial in case they are needed to sit on a disciplinary committee.

catscarestars · 27/08/2024 11:23

I suggest you mind your own business and get a life Op!

If you have any genuine safeguarding concerns for their children and/or pupils, contact the appropriate authorities.
Otherwise, don't be a scandal-mongering cunt on MN and go about your day.

Oh come on! People ask advice on here about safe guarding related stuff all the time. The OP has done this anonymously. I can totally see why it’s got people irritated as it feels like an attack on a profession that’s already full of completely exhausted staff. But if we put those emotions to one side the advice should always be to report concerns and let the professionals decide to investigate or not.
