Mumsnet seems to be the only one where people are witty with banter.
I've not found another where you can talk as you do in real life.
They often are full of things which just aren't like true conversation.
Or maybe it's ME

lol @ beef ban

If getting gynaecological, can you talk about your beef-curtains, or do they have to be beet-curtains too?

cornsilk · 17/04/2008 19:23

The BBC take off posts that aren't related to parenting? That could be fun!

muggglewump · 17/04/2008 19:49

I hate the tickers on Mumsnet, far too sparkly and the whole site is just too nice for me.
The spelling, huns, and text talk do my head in too and they come across as being a tad erm thick at times. Someone reccommended serving jacket potatoes with wedges the other day
The only other one I've used is BBC. I like it but it is quieter and moderated so you have to watch what you say.
I like saying what I want and I like that it's so up front here, if you ask you'll be told in no uncertain terms. I prefer that to pussyfooting around

Has anyone wondered into Bounty?

redwino · 17/04/2008 19:54

You should look at Family Home and Garden Discussion board on ebay. Now they are a weird bunch.

LyraSilvertongue · 17/04/2008 19:55

Muggglewump, what tickers on mumsnet? Do you mean Netmums?

northernrefugee39 · 17/04/2008 19:59

jacket potatoes and wegdes?
Perves
Who did they serve them to and where?

northernrefugee39 · 17/04/2008 20:00

Bounty? that's free stuff from women with shoulders in maternity

northernrefugee39 · 17/04/2008 20:00

Sheik, wimmin huggzz

Erk

northernrefugee39 · 17/04/2008 20:01

beet curtains

MascaraOHara · 17/04/2008 20:01

MN is the longest relationship I've ever had... seriously.

muggglewump · 17/04/2008 20:23

Ate, Lyra, I did mean Netmums with the tickers thing

Heated · 17/04/2008 20:35

Bounty's websites have lots of discussion boards, the most active unsurprisingly is "debates", although what is classed on there as a debate is very loosely defined. It's a tad different to MN (no chicken keepers on there) and less regulated.

geekymummy · 17/04/2008 20:36

Bounty.com - aargh! No tickers but it's the Princess Fluffy of Fluffydom.

When I was pregnant I went to Babycentre and Babyworld, but never really felt comfy. If people talk about MN having cliques it was those that I found were cliquey indeed.

One day I heard about the SWMNBN/MN issue, found it all very interesting so I googled MN and here I am!

JaneHH · 17/04/2008 20:39

Haven't wandered onto any other moms' sites as I got addicted to the banter on here and have never left My only ticker experience was on handbag about 5-6 years ago though people did start putting up ones to take the piss after a while à la "5 minutes till I have another shit"...

Where else can you talk about beef curtains on the net?

I heart Mumsnet!

northernrefugee39 · 17/04/2008 20:40

geeky, I agree. There's a cliquey indignant fluffy hun sort of feel.
Mumsnets don't do that, and they do listen, and say what they feel.
But what interests me is that mumsnet has such a SCARY reputation on other sites
I've heard lots of people say they,ve been o it and found it really horrid etc.

Umlellala · 17/04/2008 20:41

Aw, I used Bounty when pregnant (Due in April/May/etc forums) and tbh found it much easier to have a whole section dedicted to each month rather than one ridiculously long thread for each 'Due in...' on here.

But as soon as i started using Mumsnet after dd was born, I have been a convert. Some people write soooo well here and are so clever and funny, it kills me (eg the plastic bags thread tonight). Shame Mumsnet is so addictive though - keep having to ban myself for a week or so to actually get anything done in rl.

northernrefugee39 · 17/04/2008 20:43

Umlella, where's the plastic bags one? Can you link?

northernrefugee39 · 17/04/2008 20:45

sokay
found it

PosieParker · 17/04/2008 20:49

I have recently defected from babycentre, I had no 'co-sleeping, CIO,CC, breastfeeding, newly engaged, last had a shag, nappy cloth loving, 3 days until his first piss on the potty, nine minutes since my last new signature, 3 months 7 days until our lovely VBAC superiorly delivered baby reaches her seventh birthday' tickers!! No photos and a sense of humour, I did not fit in. I did not give virtual hugs, I was not a babycentre woman!!

geekymummy · 17/04/2008 20:50

northern - MN's reckoned to be scary?! Because grown wimmin are on here voicing opinions, and gasp disagree at times?

sparklyfairypie · 17/04/2008 20:51

Youd be surprised been a HUGE fight on NM lastnight and tonight. But mods are fast - too slow and you miss it funny though

I prefer on here - if someone diagrees with you they tend to say it. Where as on nm etc they tend to not say it but say it behind your back

northernrefugee39 · 17/04/2008 20:51

so it seems geeky

morningpaper · 17/04/2008 20:57

a real FIGHT? what about

spill
