Help settle a discussion between between me and my husband.
I think scraping your cutlery on your plate is the equivalent of licking your plate.. The foods gone, no need for all of the scraping to get every last morsel of food in your gob!
He thinks my intolerance to food noises is getting out of hand.
I will admit I've always been sensitive to people chewing/slurping but regardless I still believe scraping is bad table manners, anyone else, or am I really being unreasonable?

  • For context we have had chicken salad for dinner, he had finished but was scraping mayonnaise left on the plate onto his fork.

The hacking snort sniff my DH does it and I loudly ask if wants a tissue every time.
The loud bikers noise down our local A Road just that sudden roar they do.
Angle grinder

I can help you with the last one.

You can scan using your phone on the SmartShop app. No need for the handset.

I find it really fiddly with my phone, unfortunately

I hate the chimes of the ice cream man.

The ice cream man playing that music means he is ALWAYS sold out by the time he gets round to us 😉.. my 10 year old still believes this so I'm just waiting for the day.. 🤣😂

longdistanceclaraclara · 26/08/2024 22:40

Pretty much everything but wet sneezes are probably number one.

Sameshitdifferentdayx · 26/08/2024 22:45

My main one has to be loud open mouthed eaters.. agh!
Teeth grinding
Screaming/shouting - as a chronic migraines sufferer, this literally goes right through me on the worst days and really hurts!!!
People who drag their feet.
Constant sniffing.
Someone mentioned above dry feet being rubbed together.. YES, absolutely awful. And the same with dry hands to be fair!
The noise of chalk on a chalkboard 🤮

Noisy eating is the most unbearable sound in the world, but I do have misophonia.

I too have misophonia and people have no idea the torture it is. Most think it's just making a fuss over nothing but I'd literally prefer to bash my head against a brick wall than hear people eat with their mouths open, or bite a crisp 5 times before they start actually eating it.

It's on a very few occasions like this I'm grateful to have tourettes (and I wear a lanyard to state the fact), as one of these days, I'm sure I'll get so fed up that I'll say out loud, eat with your gob shut but they won't be able to do much about it as I won't have any control over it.

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 26/08/2024 23:26

Engine idling noises and the yappy spaniel a few doors down annoy me but generally, noises only do my head in when I'm already overwhelmed.

Auburngal · 27/08/2024 05:35

Kids screaming. Especially when they discovered their voice and do random high pitched screams. Any higher, only dogs can hear it.

Inspireme2 · 27/08/2024 05:41

Plate scrapping
Eating with you mouth open
Sniffing
Licking fingers

InMySpareTime · 27/08/2024 06:13

The sound of leaf blowers. Loads of my neighbours have gardeners, and sometimes I can't sit in the garden for hours because of the sound (and wafting diesel smell) of leaf blowers in garden after garden.
The anxiety-inducing be-BEEP- be-BEEP sound the cash machine makes when you try to deposit a cheque or cash. I have to either send DH or go into the bank, which is only open short weird hours.
The sound of FIL's front teeth clacking together whenever he chews makes me want to cry or run away. Decorum prevents either action so I just die a little inside.
The sound of a wasp flying indoors sets off a fear response in some deep recess of my brain.

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 27/08/2024 06:17

Any repetitive noise gets right on my tits if its an avoidable one that isn't stopped asap!

Auburngal · 27/08/2024 06:21

People who have the button noises option on when they use their phone.

i am so tempted to swipe the phone off them, go and switch it off on the settings and hand it back to them.

Usernamesarenoteasy · 27/08/2024 06:25

My fucking stupid neighbours dog. They regularly shut it in the garden. where all it does is bark the whole time. And when I say regularly, it's regularly in the middle of the night. For example from just before midnight until 1am this morning......

SunnieShine · 27/08/2024 07:51

Screaming children. Thumping bass. Shrieking laughter.

Another vote for men’s disgusting method of clearing their sinuses. DP does it all the time, it’s repulsive.

Why is it that women don’t have to make that noise?!

I make that noise Im afraid. But I dont like it when I hear it or others doing it

Hopefully no one on this thread ever suffers with their sinusus. Theres often nothing specific to blow out so it causes lots of sniffing as theres no point blowing.

HelenWheels · 27/08/2024 08:15

my office was previously next to an outdoor gym,
the annoyance of the squeaky equipment
mainly the annoyance of the bouncing ball
that and the weekly Strimmer and lawn mower

Really?! I’ve literally never heard a woman do it, to my knowledge. I was thinking earlier about the physical mechanics of it and I actually don’t know/can’t figure out how it’s done!

You definitely have my sympathies with sinuses, I get horrendous seasonal headaches from sinus pressure, but I assume this is the opposite problem, maybe?

Fountofwisdom · 27/08/2024 08:42

Slurping hot drinks. So many people I know have to slurp a cup of tea rather than just drink it silently. Wtf is the matter with them? Also once sat next to a woman on the tube who was eating a yoghurt. She scraped every last bit out of the pot with a plastic spoon and the sound of it almost made me murderous.

Titanicpopcornsweets · 27/08/2024 08:58

To be honest most unnecessary human noise pisses me off.

Coughing
Dramatic sneezing
Plate scraping
Noisy cars/motorbikes
Too loud supermarket tannoys
Shrieking laughter
Loud ringtones
Ice cream van tune
People who bang things unnecessarily. There's a woman at work who just generally bangs everything down for no apparent reason

Everyone just needs to be quieter.

HolidayAtNight · 27/08/2024 09:13

Men's sudden loud sneezing, when they roar totally unexpectedly.

I will grudgingly tolerate whistling, but in a confined space (looking at you, older men on public transport) it's such a jerk thing to do.

People who make sex noises while eating.

GirlOfThe70s · 27/08/2024 09:19

@HolidayAtNight - my husband is an extremely loud sneezer, but he sneezes at least a dozen times in a row. It's like an A-WHAAAHUGHEE every time. After the fourth I'm fantasising about hitting him round the head with a frying pan.

Disturbia81 · 27/08/2024 09:44

sleepwithblanket · 26/08/2024 18:36

Chewing.

Also, that sniff. Often by men which comes from their toes. A hacking sniff. It’s utterly disgusting and can often be accompanied by a spit.

Yes men sniffing, sighing, hacking, spitting, tapping, knee bouncing

It always feels like they're trying to get attention or "look at me I'm a man!" and makes me roll my eyes

Oh God, my mum used to do a sneeze that resembled your phonetic version🤣 She only did 3 or 4 in a row, but they were LOUD and every single one made me jump, even though I knew they were coming!

TeamPolin · 27/08/2024 10:28

Sloppy eating sounds. Can't cope with slurps and lip smacking...
