To wish that everybody could see the total number of ‘Thanks’

On thread comments rather than just the author of the comment?

I’m not sure why this is not viewable to everybody but reckon it could be really useful.

Never in the history of AIBU have I seen an OP or a particularly rude or argumentative poster EVER admit they are BU but I sometimes wish a comment which gets loads of thanks might just sow a seed 😆

Just to prove you wrong, I've just thanked you in a really grumpy and miserable way.

This is totally why I don't want thanks to be visible because now I know your numbers I'm miffed that my extremely interesting and informative thread about A-level Maths that I posted the other day didn't generate anything like that amount of gratitude.

Comparison is the thief of joy etc etc.

No don't want a popularity contest. BUT I get your point OP that it would be useful to show "certain" posters how wrong they are 😆

Wrong is wrong even when everyone is doing it. Right is right even if no one is.

This is the issue with 'reckons'. Yes, everyone is entitled to an opinion, but someone's reckons aren't the same as a knowledgeable, experienced, educated opinion. On a recent thread, everyone agreed except people with experience working in the field. The weight of popular opinion was just wrong.

Ironically that’s exactly the type of thread I’m talking about!

Anyone could say they are an expert. I take the 'lawyer/docter/Social worker etc here' with a huge pinch of salt.

I don't necessarily mean professionals, I mean experts. For example a thread of people saying, "you could adopt a child out of birth order, change their name, ignore their trauma". Then SWs, teachers, adoptive parents are saying, "no you absolutely can't". All the above are experts, only some professionally. Maybe they post links to studies or guidance.

Just because everyone agrees, doesn't mean you're right. Common sense is sometimes just wrong. Many things are counterintuitive and have unintended consequences. People not involved don't know about those things.

Why do you want to see how many likes other posters have got. Is it so you can play the I’m more popular and my points and opinions are more valid that yours. Ooh look how much smoke I’ve had blown up my arse game!

I’m not here to brag about the number of thanks I’ve got or cry about the thanks I haven’t got.
Like me despise me. Love me or loathe me my opinions are not going to change and nor am I going anywhere. It’s just all for the clique and popular posters to just big each other up.
