Does this mean we are doomed…?

Came home to find a dead bird on my doorstep… Literally can’t fathom how it would end up there. Live in the countryside but how did it get there???
Of course the ring doorbell isn’t charged, so can’t check if it was put there. I’m SO freaked out right now after googling ‘dead bird on doorstep’. It wasn’t a little bird either - some sort of crow looking thing. I was screaming and my partner removed it, so I didn’t get a good look. Anyone else out there ever experienced anything similar?

Why the fuck were you screaming?

Ellythe · 25/08/2024 01:09

Yep. 100% doomed

JanglingJack · 25/08/2024 02:00

You were screaming?

We had a dead dove on our terrace on holiday. My teenage daughter said maybe it fell off the roof.
I continued to look at her with a raised eyebrow until that sunk in.

WTF?!

ForGreyKoala · 25/08/2024 02:17

I arrived home once lunchtime to find a large headless gull lying on the lawn. No idea how it got there, my cat was a good hunter in his day, but had caught nothing as large as that. Had it still had its head I could have coped, but I knew my DF was around the corner removing rubbish from the house I had just moved out of so I went there and asked him to get rid of it for me. I had only been in the flat a couple of days and was wondering what sort of place I had moved into!

Firefly1987 · 25/08/2024 02:26

Well it's not pleasant but I'm not sure why all the need for catastrophising? I grew up in the country and more than once came across a dead cow (farmer didn't come round that often) and that was very not pleasant. Another time I found an animals foot in the garden (think it was a badgers, luckily not a monkeys paw 😆) bit random. I never stopped to think it could mean something spooky though. Are you thinking the bird is meant as some sort of threat or a bad omen?

ThisMammaCat · 25/08/2024 02:30

One of my cats once left a mouse head and some guts on my back doorstep. Gross, but amazing how absolutely perfectly decapitated it was.

Angelbug · 25/08/2024 02:35

Birds die

Onthescrapheap81 · 25/08/2024 02:38

Better than a live pheasant flying around your bedroom in the middle of the night, brought in by the cats.

I speak from experience.

We had a dead pigeon on the grass verge outside our house. I left it a few days to see if a fox or the council would deal with it for me. They didn’t, so I shovelled it into a bag for life (the irony), and put it in my wheelie bin.

No bad luck to report. In fact a few days later I won a bottle of Ribena at a tombola.

OMG 🤣🤣 I'm howling, you totally win the internet today!!

steff13 · 25/08/2024 02:47

Birds built a nest in my gutter this year. There were dead babies on the porch every week. Birds die. 🤷‍♀️

Pettyhangingbaskets · 25/08/2024 02:57

Cat

Edingril · 25/08/2024 03:14

Screaming why?

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 25/08/2024 03:24

If it was a horse’s head, you probably would be doomed.

Aquamarine1029 · 25/08/2024 03:26

Screaming? Over a dead bird that a cat probably left there, as they are well-known to do.

At least you didn't overreact.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 25/08/2024 03:24

Only when it's in your bed.

Redgreenfroggy · 25/08/2024 04:13

Your where screaming at a dead bird!!!!
Have you been to the Sistine chapel in the past by any chance op

Nightowl1234 · 25/08/2024 04:24

Haha thanks for the reminder - I need to find the Sistine chapel thread again.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 25/08/2024 04:27

This time of year we could find a black bear on the drive.

Not kidding.

RawBloomers · 25/08/2024 04:27

Absolutely doomed. Must be a raven - an omen of bad luck if ever there was one. Whatever you’ve done, it’s too late now. You and all your progeny are damned. May as well live it up while you can.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 25/08/2024 04:30

I'm screaming at some of these replies - hilarious

Sorry OP :)

DreamTheMoors · 25/08/2024 04:39

If your nose was stuffed up you’d be asking,
”are we doobed?” lol

A cat probably left it there as a gift. It’s quite an honour, actually, to be singled out by the feline community.

MegsNaiceJam · 25/08/2024 04:56

Wait, is dead crow the body of the mumsnetter who was marked by the crows and disappeared from the thread? Yep. We are doomed.
Cancel the milk and all
direct debits, adopt the brace position.

I screamed when a giant rat, the size of a small kangaroo was lying dead on our doormat, it was the shock.
Husband said it was a baby rat.

VelvetWithFlowers · 25/08/2024 05:32

Ours was a present from the cat. Well I hope so 🤣🤣🤣🤣
