Birth order-middle child

Do you believe in middle child syndrome and different characteristics due to birth order?
I’m the middle child and have also got a couple of friends with three children. I notice something with the middle child, they are often the butt of the jokes in the family, not exactly in a mean way, but they’re often a bit separate from the rest.
incidentally, in these families, the middle children are my favourite/the most likeable

I'm a middle child. I hated it and looking back my childhood was very lonely and I felt un-seen.

We stopped at 2 DCs because I didn't want to create another sad middle child.

Having said that I think my lofe-long academic over-achieving was due to always desperately trying to prove I mattered 😅So at least I got amazing exam results out of it! (None of my siblings had that same desperate drive to over-achieve, though all perfectly clever and now living happy lives with good jobs).

I think it's a tough hand to deal a child, honestly.
