Just that really! I know it's not totally over and we have this bank hol weekend. Just feeling really low at the thoughts of back to school and bad weather and rain and being miserable!! Anyone else.

Hate crumble. Hate stew. Hate hot chocolate. Hate wearing jumpers.

Yes me too!

I also feel like everything in autumn and winter is just such harder work.

Waytoomanycoasters · 23/08/2024 22:15

@paddyclampster oh dear!

Batmanisaplaceinturkey · 23/08/2024 22:18

Yanbu. Autumn and winter can do one.

sweetkitty · 23/08/2024 22:24

I’m a teacher in Scotland so we’ve already been back 2 weeks so for me Summer is definitely over and what a non event it was! There was hardly a dry day, no sunny nice weather at all. Right now it’s cold with torrential rain, feels like January. It will be like this until next March now.

I'm a bit depressed about it to be honest, I can remember 2 days where we sat out in the garden all Summer. I actually feel like moving abroad.

RampantIvy · 23/08/2024 22:34

paddyclampster · 23/08/2024 22:09

Hate crumble. Hate stew. Hate hot chocolate. Hate wearing jumpers.

I'm with you on those, except for crumble.

What is there to get excited about stew? Confused

circular1985 · 23/08/2024 22:37

I'm done with summer. The weathers been awful. Grateful we did get a foreign sunny holiday though.

The nights are getting a lot darker and brown leaves are already falling off the trees.

Surprise surprise kids go back to school next week and looks like a mini heatwave.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 23/08/2024 22:44

TrickorTreacle · 23/08/2024 18:18

It's summer until 21st September. Another 4 weeks.

This issue in this thread is more about the imminent school holiday ending. That is more depressing than the weather.

I always think of September as still-summer anyway.

Xiaoxiong · 23/08/2024 22:50

@PassingStranger you miss my point. I'm not someone who naturally loves Halloween and all those things either - my point was that I have to work at it, or like the OP I get the blues at the end of summer and the darker months turn into a pit of SAD.

and "crisp" feeling of Autumn

I love crisp, bright autumn days. Sadly, they are as rare as hen's teeth round here. Usually it is damp and grey.

Yes, this is it exactly. I feel that if we had proper seasons, and some sunlight in autumn and winter, it wouldn’t get so many people down. As it is, the cold, crisp conditions people keep mentioning rarely seem to happen here, and it is the endless grey, non-descript, slightly too mild but neither one thing nor the other type conditions which we have so much which means you can’t even embrace the dreaded ‘snuggling’ activities!

MavisPennies · 23/08/2024 23:00

I'm with you. It's the feeling of the darkness encroaching.
I do like the feeling of a new academic year starting in September a bit and try to enjoy the nice bits of autumn, but god the thought of a grim grey December and trying to do all of the frantic organisation of Christmas is depressing.

Kneeslikethese · 23/08/2024 23:03

Yep. Gutted. 😢
Back to school/ work blues setting in. Pumpkin spice can piss off.

Alwaystired23 · 23/08/2024 23:09

offyoujollywelltrot · 23/08/2024 16:35

Nope. I dread the onset of summer because I can't stand the heat. I'm ready for autumn and winter.

You've been lucky this year then! It hasn't been very warm.

RM2013 · 23/08/2024 23:13

I’ve not managed to get any annual leave over this summer so I’m feeling knackered and ready for a break at this point . Don’t really need it as my 2DS are both older teens but I love the summer months. I always feel a bit low as the nights start to draw in and the temperatures drop. I don’t mind autumn but I find winter makes me feel rubbish

NotaCoolMum · 23/08/2024 23:27

RampantIvy · 23/08/2024 20:48

It didn't take long for a "snuggly" to appear Hmm

I'm with you @spanieleyes22

Mumsnetters love autumn and winter. They love festering snuggling under blankets drinking hot chocolate all day. They have excellent eyesight that isn't affected by low light. They don't drive on dark, wet or snowy roads to get to work. They hate summer and nice warm days with long daylight hours and they love Halloween and Christmas.

Yep! 🖕

goodkidsmaadhouse · 23/08/2024 23:35

I love autumn and winter - I love all the seasons - but I do get the blues at the end of the school
holidays. It’s that feeling that another summer with my kids has passed and they are limited. Obviously I want my kids to grow up and go off and live their own lives but I really really cherish these weeks together every year and I will miss them so much when they’re gone for good.

ilovesooty · 23/08/2024 23:36

paddyclampster · 23/08/2024 22:09

Hate crumble. Hate stew. Hate hot chocolate. Hate wearing jumpers.

I like crumble but I don't see what's stopping people eating it any time of the year.

TheFormidableMrsC · 23/08/2024 23:41

Summer holidays have flown this year. I don't feel we've done enough, even though we had loads of plans. We've got a couple of nights away this week and a few other nice things but it's just gone and it seems five seconds since we broke up! I normally love the autumn and crisp winter months but all I can think of is not being able to afford to have the heating on, dark mornings and struggling to dry the washing. Urgh.

TheBirdintheCave · 23/08/2024 23:55

@SoupDragon Well, it's still shorts weather here in Sussex and the forecast looks great for next week 😅

yeesh · 24/08/2024 00:35

we’ve had rain nearly all year, feels like summer never even began

FrancisSeaton · 24/08/2024 00:40

I'm with you and I'm really worrying about it as my mood literally drops through the floor

I've had an amazing summer lovely memories and just feel absolute dread at nothing but dark nights and shit weather

CatchHimDerry · 24/08/2024 00:41

I hate winter with a passion, rain and darkness in general really.
I live for the sun and would gladly move to somewhere with more of it if I could 😂

Was just thinking today I’m so sad it’s ending

Firefly1987 · 24/08/2024 05:26

I like Winter except for wind and rain 😆even the sound of water running on the TV makes me shiver, I know it's meant to be relaxing but it has the opposite effect on me. They had a picture of rain on a window during the weather the other day and same thing happened-can't stand it. It's been noticeably colder the last week, and felt a draft through the house the other day which was horrible. Already had my electric blanket on a couple times!

I think I dread all seasons to a certain extent due to my hatred of weather 😆 Saying that it feels like 5 mins ago since someone made a post in April saying when is Spring gonna start...can't believe the hot weather has almost been and gone already and I'm a bit sad about it. Still getting used to it being 2024 😩

RoyallyEFFEDOFF · 24/08/2024 05:48

Nope me too. The change in seasons absolutely knocks me for six. I hate the darker nights more than anything. I’m sick of the anxiety and depression that comes from it, the sneezing and coughing every 5 minutes, the 45 mins of daylight in the winter. If I could do summer in the uk and winter in the southern hemisphere I’d be off like a shot.

Passwordsaremynemesis · 24/08/2024 06:00

I’m in the Southern hemisphere, so summer is coming and I can’t bloody wait! We only have a short wet and not particularly cold winter here, but I still hate it! If I was rich I would travel to avoid winter completely. Fuck snuggly blankets and hot choc, give a cold beer on a hot beach any day.

ForGreyKoala · 24/08/2024 07:08

@Passwordsaremynemesis - Me too. It's been spring-like here this week and I'm loving it. Roll on summer!!
