To be so embarrassed

I am on a budget but also like shopping in charity shops. Found some lovely smart, brand new, never worn shoes there and wore them today for my interview. Met the whole team and had a tour of the building. Got home and realised the charity shop price label still on the bottom of the shoe. Everyone will have seen it everytime I took a step.

No one was looking at your shoes. Good luck with the job.

Sheelanogig · 20/08/2024 23:53

Are you sure they'll have seen it if it was on the bottom of your shoe and your feet were on the floor?

And I doubt they care where you bought shoes from.

Don't worry about it.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 20/08/2024 23:54

I've never been able to see someone's soles as they walked.

I did once have an interpreting exam with the price label of my suit jacket sticking out by my waist

Whocanbelieveit · 20/08/2024 23:54

Don’t worry OP I expect they probably didn’t notice.

TheClawDecides · 20/08/2024 23:55

Did you have your feet up one the desk?

If so, I'd probably continue job hunting 🤭🤣

Aquamarine1029 · 20/08/2024 23:56

Were you walking across their faces?

Sunbird24 · 20/08/2024 23:56

Only if they were looking! Even if people could see it, doesn’t necessarily mean they would judge. I’d probably think it had got stuck to your shoe by accident at some point, or if I recognised it as a charity shop sticker and it actually registered in my brain I’d just think you were either sensible with your money or cared more about the environment than consumerist ideals or something. Good luck with the job!

SummerSplashing · 20/08/2024 23:57

I doubt anyone could read it, even if they noticed the label.

Even if they could, so what? As long as they looked clean & suitable for an
interview. You're all good.

don't stress, I hope you get offered the job?

would you want if they offer it?

Theimpossiblegirl · 20/08/2024 23:57

No one would have noticed. Good luck, hope you get the job. Xx

Baleful · 20/08/2024 23:58

Unless you were doing some high-stepping catwalk-style prance, it’s highly unlikely anyone saw the soles of your shoes.😀

Moveoverdarlin · 20/08/2024 23:58

They will not have seen a label on the bottom of your shoe. Even if they did, they would have to have X-ray vision to know that it was a charity shop sticker and not one from Next / M&S / Dune or any other shop.

Even if they did, it’s really not that embarrassing.

Yes definitely!

Well done on getting a charity shop bargain! Oh and an interview of course, I hope it went well. I interview loads of people and I would never judge anyone on that, if I even noticed in the first place. But then I do love a charity shop myself.

If the job was at the Ministry of Silly Walks, this might actually have helped.

Yes definitely!

Did they say when they'd let you know by?

ChellyT · 21/08/2024 04:01

I think it's wonderful that you bought a good 2nd hand pair of shoes and saved them from the ever increasing land fill

Either today or tomorrow!

Did you goose step? If not, I think you should be ok Wink

Treesnbirds · 21/08/2024 11:57

I would just think someone was clever not paying full price- we almost only shop in charity shops. Also much better for the environment- great work!

Good luck with the interview, really hope you get it!

Drcrafty · 21/08/2024 12:21

Even if anyone saw it, which I doubt unless every other step was a jumping jack, it wouldn't be obvious it was from a charity shop. even if it were, as an interviewer I would be itching to congratulate you on your charity shop bargain, impressed at your thriftiness, and wanting the address! My dad knelt at the altar on his wedding day with a huge red SALE sticker on the bottom of one shoe - seen by all and laughed off as a young couple being thrifty. No one cared!

AinmEile · 21/08/2024 12:23

I would be jealous and admiring if I noticed at at all, which I very much doubt I would have

JockTamsonsBairns · 21/08/2024 12:25

Buying from a charity shop isn't/shouldn't be embarrassing.

Definitely not and I do regularly. It was more having the price label left on my shoe! I got a bargain though for brand new smart shoes so I can't complain

OP posts:
BobbyBiscuits · 21/08/2024 12:27

Have you ever noticed what was on the sole of someone's shoe when you met them in a workplace? I can't say I have. I did once go to a job interview/ nude artists modelling gig with a massive dog turd stuck to my brand new pink buffalo trainer?! I got the job. Haha.
Honestly please don't worry! If you really think it's a biggie write a fake price label that says £1500 on it and stick that on instead?
