Really weird stuff people do that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Someone I know puts hotel TV remotes in plastic bags before using them, because she once heard a standup comedian talking about men wanking on them while watching porn.

WTAF?

What weird things do people you know do that make absolutely no sense at all? Anything as odd as that?

@XChrome If you knew the facts on how full of bacteria (some of it dangerous) hotel rooms are, you would think otherwise.

I really wouldn't. I'm not that bothered about germs. I never clean anything in a hotel room.

I think the squash idea is sensible! We used to make a jug of squash and leave in the fridge so people can just pour from it. Why is that weird? 😂

Me too! I live in Spain and because it’s so hot, there is always bottles of cold dilute squash in the fridge! ☺️

Who doesn't?

I don't! Nor does my chef son

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 19/08/2024 08:27

My home is clean and tidy, I like to think, but some of this is OTT. Apart from anything else, dilute squash left in a bottle of that sort will be loaded with microplastics.

I have to finish my book each night on an even number, have the volume on the car radio on an even number and have the light switches facing down where there are two-way systems.
Surely someone else has a numbers thing 🤞😲😂😵‍💫?

My mum and stepson do. I told my mum not to be so silly when she tried to get me to put the tv volume on an even number

My neighbour goes out and moves his car 10 feet every single time someone has the audacity to have parked outside his gate - as soon as they depart, he’s out - even if it’s pissing down! Why?

I have a neighbour like this. I find it really amusing. He once dashed out in his pants

I once got an absolute bollocking in a Home Economics lesson in the 1980s for doing this. The teacher went absolutely bananas and screeched 'would you dry your hands on tea towel at home, I don't think so!'
I thought 'well err yes I would!'
Apparently I was expected to dry my hands with paper towels and not the tea towel.
I've roundly ignored that for the last 4 years and dry my hands on tea towels with impunity.

I'm not keen on anyone drying their hands on tea towels. I end up chucking them in the wash as soon as they get damp. I end up washing about 6 tea towels a day

I think it’s ok to do odd things like put a remote in a bag as long as you realise it’s a bit odd (does sleeping in the hotel bed not bother her?) it’s when people do odd things but don’t realise it, like a friend of mine won’t let you dry your hands on a tea towel, apparently they’re only for dishes, so you’re supposed to walk from the kitchen to the loo to wash your hands if you’re cooking 🙄

That is good kitchen hygiene. I use kitchen roll to dry hands while cooking

HighGrem · 19/08/2024 08:40

My downstairs neighbour lures squirrels into their flat.

PerkyMintDeer · 19/08/2024 08:42

Anyone who has ever done, or lived with someone who has done, a food hygiene course will know that you aren't supposed to dry your hands on a tea towel that's used for clean dishes. That's pretty grim in my opinion.

Some people won’t use hotel kettles as apparently people piss in them or worse. Don’t know how true but it wouldn’t surprise me 😂

Thanks for that 😐

usernother · 19/08/2024 08:58

I don't use kitchen towels to dry my hands when cooking. I usually just wipe them on my clothes. Take that all you germ scaredy cats Grin

No, that is disgusting. There was a TV programme a while back where they tested make-up brushes and toothbrushes in bathrooms. They all had poo particles in them because the flush projects the poo and urine up to six feet! Happy with poo in your toothbrush? Put the seat down!

There was a post on here a while back about people washing their moon cups in the flush of the toilet. Personally thought that was disgusting to the point I think about it quiet alot. There were so many people agreeing that they do it too. So we can't have a toothbrush NEAR a toilet but we can wash a mooncup inside a toilet and put it back inside us.

MeinKraft · 19/08/2024 09:28

People don't piss in hotel kettles, they boil their knickers in them to clean them HTH Grin

This thread has made me realise I'm an absolute slattern because I use hotel remotes and kettles, don't wash my veg or my meat.

My weird thing is, on the first of every month I will stand outside the front door with a pinch of cinnamon and blow it into the house. I can't even remember where I heard the tradition but it's said to bring abundance and prosperity.

Do you do it on the steps of your mansion? 😆

Sounds more sane than most of the other stuff on this thread.

My toothbrush is very NEAR my loo and I couldn't care less. I am rarely ever sick, and when I am it is because of something I have caught from a person, not a toothbrush. Mooncups weren't around in my day, if they were I probably would have washed it in the flush. If you really do think about this quite a lot you have a problem.

Honestly, MN is a whole other world.Confused

My inlaws have no kitchen bin. Any rubbish, recycling or food waste has to be taken to the outside bin after every meal. This is out through a back boot room, across a patch of grass, and into one of the garages. At least 3 times a day every day.

My MIL is like this too, lives in a flat and instead of a bin has a bag on her counter top, I don't understand this

Comtesse · 19/08/2024 10:24

This whole thread makes me think that half of Mumsnet need a statistics course or some risk management training. Just because something could happen doesn’t mean to say it will happen - does no one do probability at school any more??

Yes there are germs in hotel rooms (like everywhere else) but the probability of catching anything is very low.

Hell will freeze over the day I have an Alexa in my house.

Why is that, @PrimitivePerson? I’m genuinely curious 😊

HowAmITheCatsGranny · 19/08/2024 10:39

I’m not gonna lie.. I have a hand towel and a tea towel in my kitchen! I’m not broadly germ phobic (I’ve never cleaned a hotel room Grin) but I guess it’s something I was raised with and find drying hands on a tea towel kinda odd..

HighGrem · 19/08/2024 10:50

I used to know someone who didn't have one of those cutlery organisers in their cutlery drawer - everything was just thrown in.

I thought that was weird just because they're cheap to buy and much easier to find what you want quickly instead of rooting around in a drawer trying to find a teaspoon.

KimberleyClark · 19/08/2024 10:54

We never use tea towels. Dishes are left to air dry if they are not done in the dishwasher and we use kitchen towel to dry our hands while cooking.

I have a human tea towel and a cat tea towel that is specifically used for drying cat dishes. Not sure if that's weird or not, but I don't like the idea of drying my hands or dishes on the cat dish tea towel and it freaks me out if I catch guests using it!
