I was reading The Sun and this came up. I'm a mum to 2 lovely teens with autism who can't work but would love to. He then calls mentally ill people doolally which upset me - a dear friend has bipolar and is the kindest woman I know. And on the same week that cricketer took his own life (I forget his name). The disabled bashing is horrible, I already worry for my two and cried when I read people don't think their sick. Is this legal?

The most heartwarming thread on Mumsnet for a long time - seeing so many in agreement about just how vile The Sun is (Like The Mail and Torygraph just closely behind).

I'm not an avid reader, it was in the cafe left behind

And there’s a reason it was left behind

Let's not forget he didn't become a teacher because (his words) he wouldn't be able to stop himself from shagging the kids.

I hadn’t heard that one Envy

I don’t listen to the sun whatsoever, any media for that matter.
All of us of age work in our house, DP has worked since he was 13, me and dbro since we were 15, my sis since she was 17 and my mum since she was 16. DS 16, is autistic but will never work unless I can find him a job suitable to his talents (design) without having to work or communicate with many people. He currently gets pip however he struggles massively with communication, fine with us but only immediate family. He struggles with a lot of things, so getting him to a job which suits his need it going to be a task and unless I can find one for him like that he will most likely never work. I’m okay with that, because the rest of us work our asses off because we can, and if one member of our family can’t due to health issues ( mental and personal) then so be it.

Don’t buy or read that newspaper. It’s only fit for lining cat litter trays.

I wouldn't even allow the Sun anywhere near my house and definitely not near my cats!

They tried to give The Sun out for free in Liverpool Lime Street once. No one would take it!

They sent us all one free through the post a few years back and I sent it right back to them and told them to stick it right up their jacksy. (Never put a stamp on it though 😊)

MorrisZapp · 15/08/2024 23:20

I once read The Sun in Majorca because I'd run out of books. There was an article about Paul McCartney's then wife (the one who got vilified) and it was so offensive DP had to talk me down as it was ruining our holiday. It was truly the worst, most vicious misogyny I'd ever seen.

Then twitter was invented 😭

tiggergoesbounce · 18/08/2024 22:51

I couldn't agree more OP, social media for our young people is the most damaging thing for them. No child should be on social media. It is shocking the neglect shown by some parents, it's not like it is a secret how damaging it can be for their mental health.

Its very disturbing what parents will allow for their kids to follow the trend.

Chocolateorange22 · 18/08/2024 22:56

The sun used to be aimed at a reading age of 9. Tells you what you need to know about the people reading it.

Well what an ignorant cunt Rod Liddle is.

powershowerforanhour · 18/08/2024 23:56

Rod Liddle's "journalism" - stretching the definition of the word beyond its limit- is the print equivalent of unsolicited dick pics.

powershowerforanhour · 19/08/2024 00:02

I expect he would be more than happy with this thread actually. Stupid mumsnet women hate me, tee hee, what larks.
He is paid to be an odious attention seeker- that is literally the point of him- and will write any old shite to this end. He's probably having a wank over this thread, sigh.

powershowerforanhour · 19/08/2024 00:06

Sad to read about Graham Thorpe, I remember him playing. Sounds like he had a really awful time with his mental health poor man, so sad for his family.

Rosscameasdoody · 19/08/2024 17:25

Disgusting ableist language and l don’t know how it’s been allowed to go into print. But then l wouldn’t wipe my arse on the Sun if there was no toilet roll left on the planet, so there we are.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/08/2024 17:26

Another reason why I would rather eat my own head than click a Sun link.

The sun used to be aimed at a reading age of 9. Tells you what you need to know about the people reading it.

Even then most of them only bought it to look at the pictures !

Floogal · 19/08/2024 18:27

One thing I will say is, I used to like Jane Moore's column and Dear Deirdre. The rest is garbage!
