Horrible comments in the sun

I was reading The Sun and this came up. I'm a mum to 2 lovely teens with autism who can't work but would love to. He then calls mentally ill people doolally which upset me - a dear friend has bipolar and is the kindest woman I know. And on the same week that cricketer took his own life (I forget his name). The disabled bashing is horrible, I already worry for my two and cried when I read people don't think their sick. Is this legal?

You're not on your own. My lovely son also has ASD (and significant MH problems). Last time he tried to work PT - 16 hours a week - it took about six months to get him stable again.

He'd love a very part time, flexible job but it just ain't happening. His well being is far more important.

I refuse to read the disabled-bashing articles, especially in that rag.

Redgreenfroggy · 15/08/2024 21:40

The sun and the daily mail should have been banned 1000 times over. Just look at the shite the Sun posted about Hillsbourgh. I judge anyone who reads them in the first place to be honestly (in-laws looking at you).

TheFairyCaravan · 15/08/2024 21:41

Rod Liddle is vile. Don’t take any notice of people like him. And don’t read the Scum, even if it has been left behind in a cafe

Pebbles16 · 15/08/2024 21:47

Sadly some people read The Sun and The Fail and represent our country for the worst. The Torygraph isn't much better.
Ignore their racist, ageist, abliest, misogynistic shite.
The only time they celebrate real people is during the Olympics and Paralympics - so expect hypocritical rhetoric to continue for a few weeks yet.

JackGrealishsCalves · 15/08/2024 21:51

The cricketer was Graham Thorpe, a quick Google tells you that if you didn't know

EnjoythemoneyJane · 15/08/2024 21:55

Honestly, what did you expect? It’s a notoriously toxic right wing agitant rag and Rod Liddle is their resident Shit Stirrer in Chief and beneath contempt.

It’s his job to provoke outrage amongst sane, normal people and bolster the opinions of poorly educated, tiny-minded, racist, homophobic, misogynistic, xenophobic, ableist Little Englanders.

Please don’t be upset by it. Those who share his opinions of people like your children are an ill-informed, hateful minority 💐

Plmnki · 15/08/2024 22:00

Why are you reading the sun. It’s a piece of shit. Utterly toxic. Don’t read it. Don’t buy it, ignore and blank anyone who refers to it. HTH. FFS.

Floogal · 15/08/2024 22:00

It's no suprise OP. I remember when Frank Bruno got sectioned and the Sun were really derogatory about him. Also, as mentioned by other PPs, there's 'the Truth' regarding Hillsborough and how Brighton is supposed to be rife with AIDS.

Floogal · 15/08/2024 22:04

Oh, and they used to have a 'Scrounger of the Week's section. So how would someone who is long term unemployed get a job if they've been publicly shamed?

pippaswallpaper · 15/08/2024 22:12

That's a sorry excuse for journalism! What a dreadful article.

Cesarina · 15/08/2024 22:20

Bananalanacake · 15/08/2024 20:15

From your title I thought you were sunbathing in your garden and your neighbour said something horrible about you. But, yeah I see what you mean, I'd be annoyed too.

Me too!
Phew - so glad it wasn't just me 😅

XenoBitch · 15/08/2024 22:23

Don't read it. That shite is bad for anyone's mental health.

Noseybookworm · 15/08/2024 22:26

It's Rod Liddle. He's a vile excuse for a human being. Honestly, I wouldn't wipe my a*se on The Sun, pay it no attention.

Thank you how sad for his family

Rod Liddle is a scum bag who cut short his honeymoon to shag the Spectator’s 20 year old receptionist. Then, when he got her pregnant, he beat her up (and was arrested and plead guilty).

Long history of completely unrepentant racism, including supporting the BNP, ableism, homophobia and sexism. This isn’t even the first Sun article he’s written claiming disabled people are faking it.

He isn’t any kind of serious journalist, he isn’t even Piers Morgan, he’s just the knuckle-dragger version of Giles Coren. I wouldn’t piss on him if he was on fire.

I think the Sun has always been nasty. The Liverpudlians had the right idea boycotting it after its coverage of Hillsborough.

Yes. It’s always a shock to the system when I see it on sale in other cities. It hardly exists here. A few places do sell it but if you’re holding a copy when you get off the train don’t be surprised if every taxi driver refuses to take you until you bin it.

It’s trash, basically. Best avoided.

Timeforaglassofwine · 15/08/2024 22:36

It was just a nothingy piece giving a baity opinion. You can't let stuff like that bother you.
I don't think its unfair of someone to say that more people need to be off benefits and in the workforce, however singling out a group is wrong. Providing proper support for families like yours and having companies such as care providers paying a fair wage should be achievable. It's criminal that people have to use food banks and claim top up benefits when they are working full time, and it's awful that people are trapped in benefits because they can't access support.

tiggergoesbounce · 15/08/2024 22:43

The sun is vile. We don't have it on sale most places around me. I can't put into words how much people need to realise how putrid a rag it is.

AngelusBell · 15/08/2024 22:46

1983Louise · 15/08/2024 20:59

I wouldn't put The Sun in our cat litter tray, support people in Liverpool and never, ever read the rag, it's banned in.our house.

I’ve not read a copy of the Sun since 1985, I don’t know how it’s still being printed.

They tried to give The Sun out for free in Liverpool Lime Street once. No one would take it!

You were reading the Sun.
What did you expect? Quality journalism?

DuckBee · 15/08/2024 22:54

The welfare state does need to be reformed but I wouldn’t know where to start. Those that genuinely (and who decides that?) need support and those that could support themselves should.

There was at one point after Covid the same amount of unemployed people as job vacancies but I suspect those jobs won’t filled as they were not sustainable long term jobs.

Unfortunately instead of having a whole nation discussion about what the shape of our welfare state should look like we end up picking at various groups.

LittleBitAlexisLaLaLaLaLa · 15/08/2024 22:55

I can’t click on the link due to my longterm boycott of this shit rag of a paper. But I don’t have to really. I can well imagine the bile that has been written.

My son has ASD and SEN and I worry for his future and whether he will ever be able to work and support himself. The type of people who write this crap or read it and a believe/agree with it are a pretty big part of that. Please don’t let this stuff upset you. Get mad by all means and complain but don’t let this small minded fuckwit hurt you.

Let's not forget he didn't become a teacher because (his words) he wouldn't be able to stop himself from shagging the kids.
