That is it really

If it was treated as a piece of street art, ok then, but now the policy and local authorities are protecting it, has it gone a bit too far?

Killjoy

mytuppennyworth · 13/08/2024 22:50

He is unique, and a lovely part of our UK culture, and I think he is awesome

Bonjovispjs · 13/08/2024 22:51

The one near me isn't being protected 🤣 Was taken down the next day and they said if no one collects it, it'll go in a skip (cat one)

Marinade · 13/08/2024 22:51

He is an acclaimed artist whose verified work has sold for millions. Why on earth would it not be protected? Are you somebody who does not embrace the arts and considers it to be graffiti because it is street art displayed on walls? If this is the case then it is an ignorant point of view.

I think it’s magical and elevates out thinking

AutumnCrow · 13/08/2024 22:52

I am Banksacus! We'll all go down together.

fisherking1 · 13/08/2024 22:52

What was the police/piranha one all about? I don't get the love myself.

BlackPanther75 · 13/08/2024 22:52

I love street art and love banksy especially

Appreciating the arts does not mean ALL and EVERY piece of art

I used to like him at the start, but the works he produced this summer are imo uninspiring to say the least (not that I could do what he does of course)

Its not street art its a load of derivative rubbish. Banksy himself is an old, posh public school boy with a load of predictable opinions reflected in his "art"and is no way the edgy anti establishment rebel he thinks he is. He is so predictable that he has been faked loafs of time and people are not sure if its him or a fake. I would arrest him for graffiti just like anyone else.

So whose esteeemed view point should we accept - your's? No thanks. I will take an elusive and intriguing Banksy any day over your 'outrage'.

XenoBitch · 13/08/2024 22:58

YANBU. It is still graffiti. It makes zero sense to me that a kid with a spray can of paint could get in huge trouble for painting on the side of a house... yet Banksy does it.. it is ok, and worshipped.
I am Bristol born and bred, so maybe I should be worshipping him, but nah...

Who is it derivative of? You do realise that it is based on stenciling, who has he based his work on? Are you appraised of his work or just spouting nonsense?

That's a really impressive example of wild extrapolation. Grin

Or not make your bed. An unmade bed was considered art.

ThisHangryPinkBalonz · 13/08/2024 23:01

What is his obsession with London zoo at the minute?

I have found some of his previous work really interesting with a good message but all the animal artwork is meh.

Please do illuminate. Wild extrapolation? What have I extrapolated? Do you understand the meaning of this word? It appears not.

MissPeachyKeen · 13/08/2024 23:01

I quite like graffiti

custardlover · 13/08/2024 23:02

It delights me.

stayathomer · 13/08/2024 23:03

I don’t know- they said on the radio the other day it was on a house- that can’t be true that he’d do it on someone’s house, could it? If he did it on street walls I’m fine with it!!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 13/08/2024 23:04

I'm not convinced that the Zoo one is the fantastic honour the bloke they wheeled out to enthuse over it was saying.

It looks rather like it could be a criticism of zoos and that, like the gorilla that isn't stuck in a concrete pen or the highly intelligent seals, the birds and other animals also need to be freed.

But that's where it becomes Art - where you have to think about the meaning.

(Still think he's the posh boy done good compared to the other stencil artists that didn't have the same hype, but it's Art, nonetheless).

You will love where I live then. I like seeing the dodgy graffiti.
Near me, someone has sprayed "baby killer" on someone's garden wall. Another one is "grass". I have seen a few " pedo" ones.
One of my faves is one that says "stay away".
I want to know the background to all of them.

HiCandles · 13/08/2024 23:04

I agree. I've never understood why his graffiti is celebrated. If he vandalised my property without permission I would be furious, same as I would be if a teen oik did.
