That is it really

If it was treated as a piece of street art, ok then, but now the policy and local authorities are protecting it, has it gone a bit too far?

I feel sorry for the owners of the surfaces he paints on. They then have the burden of "protecting" the work to avoid someone damaging their property to steal it. In that respect he's a bloody nuisance.

I think it hilarious when the smaller ones have been stolen so quickly (the road sign and the satellite dish).

LiterallyOnFire · 13/08/2024 23:05

Please do illuminate. Wild extrapolation? What have I extrapolated? Do you understand the meaning of this word? It appears not.

And obnoxious too. Delightful. Smile

You raised the possibility that OP was

"somebody who does not embrace the arts and considers it to be graffiti because it is street art displayed on walls?"

And furthermore,

"If this is the case then it is an ignorant point of view."

Which are wild extrapolations to derive from what OP said, even though you've phrased them as a question.

I don't think the rhetorical device is the fig lead you think it is.

XenoBitch · 13/08/2024 23:04

You will love where I live then. I like seeing the dodgy graffiti.
Near me, someone has sprayed "baby killer" on someone's garden wall. Another one is "grass". I have seen a few " pedo" ones.
One of my faves is one that says "stay away".
I want to know the background to all of them.

This made me laugh out loud and I really needed it today. What about nonce? I haven’t seen that thrown about in a while!

If local authority money is now being used to guard unsolicited street art, then I agree that's a bit over the top.

Purplebunnie · 13/08/2024 23:07

Didn't like Banksy to start off with but I have grown to like him more and more. I think the recent ones are brilliant

I wanted to smack the hoodie who put their graffiti tag on one though. 🤔

Messen · 13/08/2024 23:07

I like graffiti as long as it’s colourful. Tagging can get in the bin as that is just the equivalent of a dog locking its leg to mark its territory

That is precisely what the OP said!! Its street art not real art - no extrapolation or rhetoric needed. Please do formulate a better argument and explain what on earth a fig lead is as it sounds as nonsensical as your wildly inaccurate and rather poorly formulated post.

Messen · 13/08/2024 23:08

Cocking! Bloody autocorrect

Maybe I need to make my own graffiti bingo card, and have nonce on it 😅

DiscoBeat · 13/08/2024 23:10

I love it. Go police elsewhere 😁

Oh do stop being silly.

OP was being specific, and her point was about the protection of street. You generalised extravagantly.

You're not seriously claiming you can't decipher a typo as glaring as that are you? Not even in context?

bitesthedust · 13/08/2024 22:55

Appreciating the arts does not mean ALL and EVERY piece of art

I used to like him at the start, but the works he produced this summer are imo uninspiring to say the least (not that I could do what he does of course)

So you liked him 'graffitiing all over the place' to begin with?

Notmushroomforthis · 13/08/2024 23:11

I'm bored of Banksy if I'm honest. It's the same tired shit and the hype is boring now.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/08/2024 23:12

Couldn't agree more. He's a vandal.

LiterallyOnFire · 13/08/2024 23:13

If your thread title more closely matched the contents of your OP, you wouldn't be getting this much grief @bitesthedust

Toddlerteaplease · 13/08/2024 23:13

There was one very close to me. Didn't think k it was even good art!

Whaat? I think you have a slight comprehension problem. Please feel free to clarify your statements that are as clear as mud.

CombatLingerie · 13/08/2024 23:14

Like it @XenoBitch and @HansHolbein DS and I still laugh about seeing ‘pie arse’ sprayed onto a street sign. Who was ‘pie arse’ I wonder?

whatajoke26 · 13/08/2024 23:15

I am so bored hearing about Banksy. His artwork isn't really artwork and I find it dull and boring. I want to hear about another artist who isn't so overrated.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/08/2024 23:15

There was also some graffiti near me, that I really liked. But that was removed as it's not 'art'.

More importantly what did pie arse do!

I have to agree @bitesthedust I am so over Banksy now, and bored with him. His last few pieces haven't even been that good.

Total 'Emporer's New Clothes' he is.

See also Tracey Emin: Utter shite. She produces utter shite. Always has.

StaunchMomma · 13/08/2024 23:15

Art is subjective.

If you don't like it, move on.

No need to be a killjoy.

bergamotorange · 13/08/2024 23:15

HiCandles · 13/08/2024 23:04

I agree. I've never understood why his graffiti is celebrated. If he vandalised my property without permission I would be furious, same as I would be if a teen oik did.

Think the value of the piece would help you get over it.

SocksAndTheCity · 13/08/2024 23:15

I like the pelicans best from this week, but the piranhas on the police box are close by me now they've moved it to the Guildhall so I'm going to go and have a look.

I have two others (long since covered with plexiglass) within a few minutes of my flat but I still like seeing something new Smile
