To be absolutely outraged that Aldi are closing their click and collect service?

Just that. Have had an email this evening saying that they're closing their click and collect service from August 19th so they can concentrate on continuing to provide low cost groceries.

I have been using the service for a couple of years now and it's been great. I really really don't want to have to go and spend ages in the shop. I would go to one of the other supermarkets, but they cost a lot more than Aldi.

How do I complain?

And when they keep their click and collect service but have to increase prices to compensate?

Would you complain then as well?

NeedSomeAnswersPlease · 13/08/2024 20:53

I'd imagine it's just not profitable. Never see it being used anywhere to be honest, people either go to the shop or do a full online order

PeriIsKickingMyButt · 13/08/2024 20:53

It's obviously not profitable enough. Why would you complain about it?

JustTalkToThem · 13/08/2024 20:53

OUTRAGE!!

mitogoshi · 13/08/2024 20:54

I've never seen anyone use it here, I'm guessing it didn't prove profitable

Sirzy · 13/08/2024 20:54

It’s not a service they widely offer, they have obviously realised that it doesn’t work with their business model. As frustrating as it is for you they won’t change their mind because your not happy!

OUTRAGE!!

Quite. Yes it's probably a bit annoying. But really...

Cocopogo · 13/08/2024 20:56

I didn’t even know they had one seems like I mustn’t be the only one as its clearly not profitable

yourfavoriteweapon · 13/08/2024 20:56

The others will be more expensive in part because they offer this service. It will require at least one more member of staff being paid, which has to be recovered somewhere. They can obviously see it’s increasing costs in a way they can’t recover, so seems a sound business decision.

Theunamedcat · 13/08/2024 20:57

They exist to make money this isn't making money it has to go

itsgettingweird · 13/08/2024 20:59

Their click and collect locally here was really expensive when they did it. Ours stopped a while back.

I have a mid week Asda pass at £3.50 a month. I do a top up Aldi shop for fresh stuff and it takes 20 minutes as they have self service now.

There are alternative options

FOJN · 13/08/2024 21:07

Part of the reason Aldi is cheaper is because they don't employ lots of extra staff to pick your shopping out for you.

They're not obliged to offer you savings on your shopping and convenience too.

Bluevelvetsofa · 13/08/2024 21:17

Does anyone spend ages in Aldi. In and out in half an hour or less I reckon.

Allfur · 13/08/2024 21:19

Get a delivery from an alternative store, saving time and petrol money

LondonQueen · 13/08/2024 21:20

I haven't found too much difference in supermarket prices if you choose their own brands. Just use a different supermarket.

Jadebanditchillipepper · 13/08/2024 21:22

Sorry, I was being tongue in cheek when I said outraged, but I probably would have been happy to pay a bit more for it for the convenience (and they have been much better at picking stuff than other supermarkets I have used).

I didn't realize that it wasn't widespread - certainly seems pretty popular here.

Oh well, back to trawling around the store again

In our area they introduced it for covid vulnerable people. I didn't use it as I am not vulnerable so I did it want to take away from their availability to the service. I'm surprised it took them that long to stop the service- it clearly was at a loss to them

Sirzy · 13/08/2024 21:28

I have just looked and of the closest 60 stores to me that come up on the list on their website only 1 offers click and collect!

SpringYay · 13/08/2024 21:33

Enjoy your chainsaws, wetsuits and other middle aisle wonders!

Homesweethome23 · 13/08/2024 21:36

I live near 3 very large ALDIs and none of them do the click and collect service. I didn’t even know this was a thing in some stores until your thread popped up.
Obviously the stores that have trialled it showed it didn’t work for them.

SP2024 · 13/08/2024 21:45

They stopped ours a couple of years ago. Most annoying

JC03745 · 13/08/2024 21:58

Our 2 closest Aldi's do offer click and collect- but I have never, in 3yrs seen anyone use it!

Sainsburys offer aldi price match. I now have online deliveries from them. Its rare to get a substitution, fruit/veg is much better and lasts longer than aldi and some things are surprisingly cheaper! I still go into an aldi store for some basics though.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 13/08/2024 22:00

Capitalism, innit?

If it doesn’t make money, it’s going to go. And if it’s pushing up the price of groceries it’ll have to go, as people choose Aldi for the lower prices.

I would go to Aldi if I could go during the week and be in and out, but could only go on weekends when it’s busy so I don’t. I use another more expensive supermarket that delivers.
