So called ‘protesters’ from the far right?

6 racists turned up to a immigration advice centre in Brighton, 2,000 peaceful counter protesters played instruments, sang, chanted ‘We are many you are few, we are Brighton who are you!’

There was no trouble, just a lot of people making a point.

So if we can do it, without racist language, violence, looting etc why can’t they? They were fine, a ring of normal police ( no riot gear needed) surrounded the bigots then removed them in a van.

YANBU - they are racist right wing thugs. It’s no real protesting.

YABU - they’re legit. And if they want to smash up the place then it’s because they’re provoked by ‘2 tier’ policing.

Not living next door to so many racists has its appeal, you know.

I've got a job, a home, medical treatment, dental treatment, shops to get food from, food in the shops, two cats, nice neighbours, all the household appliances, furniture and clothes, pot plants, books, music, three Amazon deliveries coming this week, an Ocado delivery, a means of getting to work and the various medical and dental appointments all due to there being immigration in my deprived area. I've got an education due to there being immigration. I'm alive, as are my children, due to there being immigration.

My entire existence hinges upon the presence of immigration and is improved beyond measure by the presence, both now and historically, of people who made a decision to travel from other countries to come here.

Maybe they're not all thick racists. After all, some of them will also have higher level qualifications - you always need somebody who the thick ones will look at and think 'Ah, that's a very clever person who agrees with me, I'll vote for them/follow whatever they say', after all.

So what you’re saying is that you, personally, are in a privileged position and therefore it’s all fine?

No, not particularly privileged. I don't own a house, we don't have a car, our 'holiday' has been spent going to assorted medical and dental appointments this year. Although the bus stop being round the corner, along with a Co-op, mini Tesco's and a Turkish shop, feels quite luxurious at times.

This post is completely tone-deaf.

  1. I wouldn't have existed in the first place.
  2. My mother wouldn't have existed as hers would have been murdered on one side, would have died in a muddy trench under bits of his horse on the other.
  3. My father wouldn't have existed as his ancestors would have been murdered.
  4. I wouldn't have made it past birth.
  5. I wouldn't have made it past Reception.
  6. I wouldn't have learned to read.
  7. I'd have stuck with what others expected and not got qualifications. There wouldn't have been teachers for half the subjects.
  8. I'd have died at least five times over in pregnancies.
  9. I wouldn't be well enough to work and seeing as my father dropped dead due to complications of the same condition I'm receiving treatment for as they weren't available when he was a kid or young adult, I'd most likely be dead by now. Oh, and the medications certainly weren't discovered/invented /manufactured/ imported/distributed by solely white British workers.
  10. You can't get a job in a school without there being enough kids in the area to make one necessary.
  11. In the absence of the ability to fly like a bird, I need to take public transport.
  12. My house wouldn't exist without it being built. It wouldn't be where I live without the local authority, OT, HA, NHS and other staff in various organisations working to source and find appropriate accommodation for me.
  13. The supermarkets, logistics companies, warehouses, Uber, Amazon, etc, etc, don't give a shit who works for them as long as they turn up and do their jobs.

After 50+ years of hearing all the arseholes go on about immigration as an excuse for why their lives are shit, I'm rather tired of it now.
