So much for rioters deterrent sentences

GPTec1 · 07/08/2024 12:29

4 sentenced so far : 2 weeks, 3 years and two lots of 18months... for violence, attacking the emergency services, burning out a Police car, violent disorder & looting.

Quite honestly these sentences are beyond pathetic and will not stop anyone rioting.

Then we have very weak policing & lack of police numbers.

Many of us know the type of animals running around destroying cars and setting fire to hotels. They were the ones at school who kept bunking off, weren’t interested, made ‘Swots’ lives hell. When teachers tried to discipline them, their mum, if she could be bothered, would ‘come up the school’ to scream at the teacher.

They left school at the first opportunity, with a reading age of 7 at best. They worked cash in hand in a trade, clocking off early on a Friday to go ‘up the pub’ and get coked up with the lads. Somehow they always seem to have a woman willing to take them on. Their poor neighbours have to listen to them effing and blinding. Their kids are out all hours, and when they go to school make the other kids and teachers lives hell.

They resent anyone who’s lives are more successful than there’s despite having done nothing to improve their own lives. They resent it even more if that person isn’t white.

When they reach retirement age they talk about having ‘worked all their lives’ when in reality they’ve been subsidised and have cost money, due to numerous A&E visits and lung issues from the fags.

Now them and their kids are running around like a pack of animals with England tattoos and flags, calling themselves patriots when they contribute the square root of fuck all and just take.

Nail on the head. I agree with every word of that!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 07/08/2024 14:05

They were given the longest permissible sentence they could have.

Just done a quick name change .. to stop things being connected.

One of the rioters was at school with DD. Nice a school, nice area, good results.

From primary he was “that kid”, running around, fighting, hurting other kids, getting his trouble. His home life was a bit of a mess, with various boyfriends in and out (with snarly dogs), always late, wrong uniform, wrong kit, messy etc etc

I do feel a bit sorry for him, failed by parent & and school - you could see, years ago, where this was going to end up. I can see how people get involved (although these riots are against everting I believe in). Help for young people like that is non-existent

Seriously, I think the only "help" for those kinds is being put into care or borstal. Parents are clearly incapable of bringing them up to a decent level of civilisation, so there needs to be a significant intervention. And no, not just extra classroom assistants nor occasional social worker visits - it needs more than that. Take them away from the real problems (i.e. parents and/or dodgy friends) is the only way.

Couldn't have put it better

I would like to see some other sanctions, perhaps not being able to travel abroad for a certain period of time?

Ponoka7 · 07/08/2024 14:27

So now we have groups of young Muslim men attacking lone white men, in groups, as in all having a kick, they are martching holding a Palestinian flag. Do we think that they should be treated the same? Imans have come on television to tell them to stop tbf.

I've heard it will affect passports but I'm not sure. Also from January all UK visitors to many countries in the EU (such as Spain) will need a Visa. I heard this will probably be denied to rioters because of their criminal records.

Comefromaway · 07/08/2024 14:46

The JSO protestors who were jailed were the ringleaders. It was mostly the conspiracy they were jailed for. As well as having previous convictions for the same kind of offences they expressed no remorse and it was felt that if not jailed they would simply do the same again.

Absolutely they should, if there are any differences in treatment of anyone this will never end. Two tier policing needs to come to an end. All need to be treated the same.

MinnieCauldwell · 07/08/2024 15:13

Prison won't deter them, they have no jobs to lose. Maybe withhold benefits and social housing

I don't think they are travelling abroad tbf I would curfew them all !

MouseofCommons · 07/08/2024 15:17

It won't matter if they're self employed. I suspect there's quite an overlap between unreliable tradesmen and the rioters.

earlymorningcurlewcall · 07/08/2024 15:17

I'm a big fan of the idea of using water cannon as a deterrent. Don't want to get hurt? Don't turn up.

mightymam · 07/08/2024 15:19

How else is the racist police and racist legal system going to deal with racists? 🤔🤔

So make them homeless and penniless ?they might have family living in their houses would you have them homeless, men like them will always blame someone for their actions I don't think making them homeless would be a deterrent.

Mrsjayy · 07/08/2024 15:20

I mean i see the understanding of sanctions but I don't think taking away benefits and housing is the answer.

IncessantNameChanger · 07/08/2024 15:22

IDK. Time in prison isn't good on your CV, for getting into certain countries or a DBS check. I'd say it royally fucks your life up from my point of view. But I'm not a rioter

Well said, and totally correct.

Whenwillitgetwarm

do you think that child - the one who is now in serious trouble for rioting - the one you described in your post - has been let down by the system?

If he was already causing trouble in primary school surely that should have been picked up on and help provided?
maybe the family were in desperate need of help but didn’t get any. People completely turned their backs and just wrote that child off.

I’m just trying to figure all this out and wondering why certain sections of society end up like they do. That’s all.

AmusedMaker · 07/08/2024 15:28

why is that happening?

@mightymam
I can't speak for the police but I can assure you that in many years in the profession I have met staggeringly few racist lawyers. I don't know how they carry on at home, granted, but it's kind of an obligation in our professional conduct rules to uphold justice, which usually means not being racist.

Trouble makers from troubled chaotic families barely make it to school I do think a lot of the teachers support staff time is taken up with getting them settled and to behave and that's before any senco is involved. 1 of my dc has a specific learning difficulty and was in a few sen classes and groups throughout school and a few boys in the groups were a total nightmare the parents didn't care unless they were in trouble then they would march to school complaininf and arguing, and schools couldn't cope it was a loop.
They are now grown men who hang about the bookies and the pub and are coked up and fight that's a normal weekend to them, they now have kids who they probably never bother about until it suits them and it just goes on I have no idea what the answer is.
