To think Elon has lost his mind?

I used to be a big supporter of his. I was absolutely obsessed with his work on SpaceX and neuralink. His Joe Rogan interviews are some of the most interesting conversations I've ever listened to. Since he bought twitter I feel like he's been radicalised. I honestly can't square the man he seemed to be while building this extraordinary career with who he had become.
I still agree with him on quite a few topics, but his outbursts on twitter this week to stoke the riots is just reprehensible. His comments seriously make me feel sick. I really hope he is held to account when the dust settles. Although I don't hold out much hope.

In the app so can't set up voting properly, but essentially
YABU - Elon Musk is of sound mind
YANBU- you're right, he's lost it

Bonkers, and dangerous. When he talks about the UK he is wading into something he knows nothing about. He's decided the pig-thick rioters are representing some kind of majority sentiment in a country and society he understands nothing about. He's spreading ludicrous lies but because he's so influential these are incredibly harmful as sadly some people think he lends these ideas legitimacy

That article doesn't say that.

It says this ‘Elon Musk wants birth rates to increase globally — but he believes only people of a certain level of intelligence should reproduce.’

I think it’s safe to assume he places himself in the intelligent people group.

What's the gist of his comments? (Sorry, I don't use X and haven't seen anything about him recently!)

That civil war in the U.K. is inevitable (direct quote)

CareerChange24 · 06/08/2024 15:57

You were a big supporter of neuralink - exposed as abusing and mutilating primates.

Nice

Yet now the outrage. Hmm.

Frowningprovidence · 06/08/2024 15:58

I'm certainly surprised by him talking about civil war and his tweets @ kier starmer about events.
Why does he want civil war?

He's just called them out spectacularly.

Where does it say he wants it? I think he’s commenting in despair about the state of things.

He’s an oddity. I don’t know why people listen to be honest. It’s a bit odd.

dottiehens · 06/08/2024 16:02

Still like him. He is being a nightmare to Maduro in Venezuela. Whether Biden has not even said a word of support for the country.

TonTonMacoute · 06/08/2024 16:04

Have you never seen a Bond movie..?

He needs to be controversial & drive traffic to X as he paid £££££.

That makes sense anything for money. I wonder if he would sell his grandmother 🤔

Els1e · 06/08/2024 16:06

yanbu

hamstersarse · 06/08/2024 16:06

Have any of you ever watched an interview with him? One of his full interviews (1 hour +) and not a heavily edited clip?

it’s like none of you have any clue what he’s actually like

He's Afrikaaner who grew up in Apartheid South Africa. No way are you not going to be affected with that background. And now he lives in a country, the global leader in race law, whose race laws (no race mixing, segregation) inspired South African laws.

In the past, such marriages were outlawed in the United States, Nazi Germany and apartheid-era South Africa as miscegenation. The word, now usually considered pejorative, first appeared in Miscegenation: The Theory of the Blending of the Races, Applied to the American White Man and Negro, a hoax anti-abolitionist pamphlet published in 1864.

Because he’s a Trump supporter. Sunak also embarrassed himself as a fanboy so Musk is probably gutted that he has less influence over the UK now Kiers the PM. Sunak would have probably agreed to Musk related ventures being completely unregulated and running rampant in the UK.

haveagoharry · 06/08/2024 16:13

He's contributing to the mass distraction. And it's working.

sweetpickle2 · 06/08/2024 16:14

YABU for ever being a supporter of his, he's always been like this.

KreedKafer · 06/08/2024 16:19

He's been a dangerous egomaniacal nutjob for years; this isn't a new development. He was a wanker long before he bought Twitter.

LlynTegid · 06/08/2024 16:22

Unfortunately I don't think his comments are sufficient for criminal charges to be brought. Given the damage that is done from inaction by social media companies (unless a female nipple is shown), a senior person from one of them appearing in a court of law might have some impact.

Fining a small percentage of takeover is not the real answer.

Lifeomars · 06/08/2024 16:23

NowyouhaveDunnett · 06/08/2024 14:22

I always disliked him. He said some horrible things about the diver who helped rescue the Thai football team from the flooded cave.

Yes, that was disgusting. Musk won the libel case which always puzzled me. He did delete the tweet and apologised to the diver but seriously where is Musk's head at to come out with such a foul remark?

OneTC · 06/08/2024 16:23

I'm just bemused that anyone ever viewed him as anything other than a megalomaniacal psychopath

Lifeomars · 06/08/2024 16:25

CosmicDaisyChain · 06/08/2024 15:01

The problem with people like him is they surround themselves with people who will never ever tell them how silly or even reprehensible some of the things they say are. So because nobody ever tells them, they have no benchmark of when they are going too far and saying things that will reflect really badly on them.

Sounds very like Trump

I think we should ban Twitter. What he did is unforgivable. He is unelected and has far too much power and is not policing Twitter properly, it comes with a responsibility.
He is on a huge power trip.

I love the fact that when the bots tried to infiltrate MN we could all report it quickly and they took it down. Why can he not organise his own site properly? Hate speech is illegal.

Well of course you think we should ban twitter, what else would anyone else expect in an echo chamber where threads are removed for even talking about immigration. The replies on this thread are like babies in prams wailing away wanting to close anyone or anything they disagree with. As soon someone is called a racist or Islamophobe , the thread, post and poster disappears - just the allegation is enough.

I agree with Musk as do millions and millions of other Brits ..none will be on here though as it isn't really a forum, just a collection of people crying about how racist everything is. Reading the thread, I'm sure many think 99% hate Musk and think he is a naughty racist wearing a pointy white hat. The reality is entirely different.

rewilded · 06/08/2024 16:39

@TiredCEO34 I couldn't agree more. Mumsnet is embarrassing atm. Deleting any thread where dialogue might improve understanding.

He's an untrustworthy arrogant narcissist.
And his name is an anagram of Lone Skum. So what were his parents thinking, calling him Elon? WTF sort of name is that, when it took me 2 seconds to spot the anagram? 😂

or Lone Kums as my OH calls him
