To think Elon has lost his mind?

I used to be a big supporter of his. I was absolutely obsessed with his work on SpaceX and neuralink. His Joe Rogan interviews are some of the most interesting conversations I've ever listened to. Since he bought twitter I feel like he's been radicalised. I honestly can't square the man he seemed to be while building this extraordinary career with who he had become.
I still agree with him on quite a few topics, but his outbursts on twitter this week to stoke the riots is just reprehensible. His comments seriously make me feel sick. I really hope he is held to account when the dust settles. Although I don't hold out much hope.

In the app so can't set up voting properly, but essentially
YABU - Elon Musk is of sound mind
YANBU- you're right, he's lost it

It’s also perfectly possible someone powerful like Putin has serious dirt on someone like Musk and he is now a puppet. Anything conceivable is possible. Allowing a small minority to stoke hatred on your website is not free speech, it’s abuse of power.

TooBigForMyBoots · 06/08/2024 15:17

He's a fucking tool. That's not to say he isn't really good at some stuff. He is. But when he's not doing the stuff he's good at, he's a total tool.

Prawncow · 06/08/2024 15:18

He’s insane.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 06/08/2024 15:18

Total twat.,Twitter is crap anyway.

PigeonFeatherInMyChair · 06/08/2024 15:19

He's a hateful dickhead who's equally shit at being a father as he is at being human. He's someone who is a curse on anyone and everyone.

Having seen how evil he is in public, I dread to think how much worse he must be in private.

Highly doubt it. People like Musk who have the arrogance to get where they are in the first place think they're untouchable and always right.

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 06/08/2024 15:21

I’d think growing up under apartheid would be pretty formative. He may be only too aware of the dangers and em feel they shouldn’t be downplayed.

TheMightyWanderer · 06/08/2024 15:21

He’s currently funding Trump’s campaign, and I’m quite sure his idiot comments on Twitter were a very strategic move to further that “investment”. Trump’s campaign is heavy on anti-immigration rhetoric, and by pointing to a country with a “close” relationship to the US that has supposedly been brought to the brink of civil war by immigration, he’s just adding fuel to Trump’s fire. He hasn’t lost his mind — he knows exactly what he’s doing.

I always disliked him. He said some horrible things about the diver who helped rescue the Thai football team from the flooded cave.

He did. Vile man. And he's been horrible about one of his children

RiotsLondon · 06/08/2024 15:22

Agree op, it's bizzare, a break down?

TomatoSandwiches · 06/08/2024 15:23

I think Elon is one of those people who no one ever really knows, not because of his academic intelligence but because of his inate instability.

He has an overall weak character... a bit like Howard Huges.

Objectively I find him entertaining.

Whenwillitgetwarm · 06/08/2024 15:24

CosmicDaisyChain · 06/08/2024 15:01

The problem with people like him is they surround themselves with people who will never ever tell them how silly or even reprehensible some of the things they say are. So because nobody ever tells them, they have no benchmark of when they are going too far and saying things that will reflect really badly on them.

He’s the very definition of that American saying ‘He was born on third base and thinks he hit a triple’. His dad owned an emerald mine but he thinks he’s self made and the richest man in the world because he’s the smartest.

Also the irony of him being an immigrant in America, causing and funding division in the country which welcomed him and supported his rise to even more riches.

Interestingly Peter Thiel also immigrated to America from Germany and is also helping to destroy western democracies.

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 06/08/2024 15:25

While Trump appears to be the only one standing against the medicalising of children, I can see why Musk who has lost a child to trans ideology would back him. I think he’s very driven by his personal needs rather than anything at all objective.

I may well have disowned him if I were his child, mind. But I can see why he’s enraged about it.

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 06/08/2024 15:26

The biggest issue with him, is that anyone gives any credence to what he says about anything beyond his own businesses! And then not entirely 😂

ilovesooty · 06/08/2024 15:28

Campcritters · 06/08/2024 14:29

He needs to be controversial & drive traffic to X as he paid £££££.

Exactly.

InsensibleMe · 06/08/2024 15:28

Beefcurtains79 · 06/08/2024 14:58

That sounds like something out of North Korea.

There has never been free speech to shout ‘fire’ in a crowded theatre. And that’s what Musk is doing right now. Hardly North Korean to believe there should be some censorship over inflammatory comments and posts.

What did he say?
I can't find anything online.

Bollocks. He believes only smart people should procreate to ensure intelligent children so I suspect he believes his trans kid is still smarter than your useful idiot arse.

Elon Musk, father of 11, wants ‘smart people’ to have kids

The Tesla CEO, who shares 11 children with three women, is no stranger to voicing his opinions on procreation, especially via his social media.

SonicTheHodgeheg · 06/08/2024 15:32

This won’t be the last time that we hear something like that about the UK. JD Vance saying that parts of the UK were effectively Islamic looks tame in comparison.

Yy to “geniuses” coming across as idiots when they discuss or do anything other than their expertise. Eg Gates hanging out with Epstein

Musk has been known to come up with random comments like this (remember the cave rescue guy in Thailand ?) and he’ll do it again- he has fervent fan boys who would cheer every time he farted if they could and his fans are only rivalled by hard core Trump fans who would do anything for him.

Blackcats7 · 06/08/2024 15:33

Always disliked him but this recent behaviour is the final straw so have just deactivated my twix account. Probably makes no difference I know but I just don’t want to have any association with him.
It is disgusting that a tiny amount of people control so much of the world’s wealth and use it to influence politics and government both through gigantic donations and control of the media.

OutOfChargeNow · 06/08/2024 15:33

hamstersarse · 06/08/2024 15:05

What do you think does cause civil war?

You have a majority of the population who want immigration reduced and the politicians are ignoring this. And have done for years.

There are ghettos, there is segregation; people are already divided. It has the basis for a civil war in the UK? Isn't EM correct?

He is also a free speech advocate, hence why he bought Twitter, and I for one am glad he did. All the other platforms have literally admitted that they take direction from the government. Anyone with an ounce of sense will know that governments controlling media is the first step into a hellhole which is way worse than a daft meme from Elon Musk.

You have a majority of the population who want immigration reduced

How do you know this? Has there been a recent poll? (Genuine question btw, I have no idea how the population thinks, just my friends and family really).

Araminta1003 · 06/08/2024 15:34

Sunak also cosied up to him in public in that interview and gave him far too much air time.

Araminta1003 · 06/08/2024 15:36

“You have a majority of the population who want immigration reduced”

That’s not true at all. London is very international and successful and people generally live quite happily alongside each other and value all the cultural diversity and huge economic input migrants from all over the world have brought.

WiddlinDiddlin · 06/08/2024 15:37

NowyouhaveDunnett · 06/08/2024 14:52

Yep. It was just because of sour grapes.

Yep, he accused a very lovely bloke involved in the cave rescue (who has been involved in caving and cave rescue many decades)... of being a paedo...

Because Elon was told his idea was dangerous and stupid, he didn't know what he was doing, and could he please go away and stop getting in the way... (words to that effect)... and he was told politely at first, but he did persist... and persist and persist... until he was told not so politely.

He is and always has been an egomaniac, an arrogant arsehole and a nasty piece of work if he doesn't get his own way. He just has that much money, few people but those who have had to interact directly with him would ever notice.

marigoldandrose · 06/08/2024 14:31

Just because people say things others don't agree with the U.K. shouldn't go around banning apps like X, free speech is very important and we shouldn't take for granted what a lot of the world don't have access to

Does free speech include the right to shout ' Fire!' in a crowded theatre? As someone cleverer than me once asked.
