It is horrendous that there is a climate of fear and that all this far right terrorism is taking place.

are there ways for the general public to give support to minorities who are being targetted?

You're quoting the BBC's reporting, and then suggesting that the efforts to reduce misinformation have failed?

There was less unrest last night because the people out in force were antifascists who for the most part are intent on peaceful protest.

The extreme right wing were massively outnumbered. Even they know when there is no point kicking off.

No one is claiming that violence hasn't happened on both sides. However it is absolutely clear which side are more peaceful than the other, and which side have a desire to make their point with violence, intimidation and hate.

The footage of the councillor says different. I've been in the middle of a crowd of violent 'antifascist' thugs - experience tells me they are definitely not more peaceful, they are exactly the same, it's just being downplayed. As an example, this is the kind of thing women face from them www.brightonandhovenews.org/2024/06/24/women-shelter-in-shop-after-protesters-tail-them-from-rally/

Yup, you said it better than I just did 😂

I am so glad someone said this and I am not alone is thinking this.
People falling over themselves to signal how nice, educated and welcoming they are.
If I were one of the people affected, I would feel rather patronised tbh.

How do you act towards these "minorities" the rest of the year?

Why has it taken these latest riots for you to decide to be supportive and stand behind them? Surely if you genuinely that concerned, this wouldn't even be a question.

They dont need any white saviours, try being decent, accepting and integrate with them all year round, every year, not just when it's riots and you want to be seen to be productive.

I don’t act like a white saviour and do integrate with people. I’m polite and friendly to everyone I meet. I think the scale of what has happened this week would have chilled a lot of people to the bone. If it was me, I would be scared and I don’t want to act like I don’t give two hoots. I’m certainly no saviour.

I am white so am a minority here where I live in my London borough. We are largely a fairly tolerant borough although house vast numbers of people often of opposing cultures, sometimes from countries abroad where each was on the other side in wars- sunni, shia, anti and pro Iran, anti China dissidents, supporters of the Chinese state etc. I think it was an NHS GP who lives not too far away who had been involved with Hamas too so a complete mixture of many kinds of people. I think we live fairly peacefully but I have been unhappy about the way some Jewish people have been treated (I am Christian) by some (not all) people on the protests - it has almost been like no go areas for them in London on march days which is not acceptable. Some of the new cultures are not particularly keen on equality for women so we certainly need to keep that in check and ensure women have freedom to walk the streets.

I think this all going to calm down again and the UK will continue to be a good place to live but there is an issue that we have the highest immigration in history and the state should recognise for some people that has a negative impact on eg finding a place to rent etc. This is a simple fact and the Labour manifesto promised to get migration numbers down. Let us see if Starmer lives up to the promise. I was pleased to see he used a Rwanda booked flight recently instead to return people illegally here from Vietnam to Vietnam - that is a good start. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/rwanda-scheme-flights-deportation-vietnam-migrants-b2585708.html 46 were returned - that is not very many but if we can keep it up to ensure that if you fail in your application you are then swiftly removed that will help

Yes I've seen countless footage. Have you?

Yes…that’s how we know they’re scum.

I'm curious what 'people like you' covers. Being against illegal immigration? Being indirectly racist to anyone different to you? Being directly racist to anyone different to you? Seeking out people different to you to threaten them? Seeking out people different to you to physically assault them?

Or were you one of the people busily smashing in shop fronts to steal bath bombs and chucking fireworks and bricks at police, antifascists and people different to you because that will show them?

Baths bombs AND gingerbread men! I can see how that helped ‘the cause’
