So many posters not being called out. They say blatantly racist things and back it up with "You can't keep shutting us down by calling us racist". It's because you're a racist assh*le.

Comments aren't even being deleted. Last month, you called YOURSELF a Karen you'll have pages and pages of people telling you off.

I think part of it is that a lot of the racist posters have learnt how to say racist things while just about sticking within talk guidelines. They are clearly saying (or often implying) very racist things but they manage to evade moderation.

It's straight out of the Farage playbook. Whip up hate as much as you can but stay within the law.

In my experience, MNHQ are generally pretty good at dealing with the posts that are overtly and uncontroversially racist but they haven't yet figured out how to deal with the more sophisticated category.

HettieBettyBoo · 06/08/2024 00:12

It’s not just racism. I see many posts on here that are prejudice on age, nationality, religion, social status etc.

People will have their opinions on all of the above on the boards on here. Personally I find some posts very nasty and I always report those posts. Not all are removed though if whatever Mod agrees that a post should stand. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the MN moderation policy.

Lonelycrab · 06/08/2024 00:14

Yes

yes, and they are almost gleeful about it. it makes me feel so sick. I would love their racism to be uncovered in their communities and workplaces where they pretend to be human.

strongly agree

Radarkeigh · 06/08/2024 00:20

MN is probs one of the biggest UK based forums, so yes people will target it.

I think it's a bigger problem than just MN though. We as a society haven't managed to figure it out yet.

Farage, for example, has been stoking these riots and winding people up, but he stops just short of incitement. He knows what he can get away with saying without being prosecuted and he uses it to his advantage.

We can all see what he is doing, but under current laws, we are powerless to stop him.

yes. if you look up the posting history of some people here who are racist but just under the line of evidence. They usually are highly educated with professional jobs. They are smart about their racism. it's vile. shameless.

Yeah, though advanced search only tells half the story as it doesn't show the many more posts that have been deleted!!!

So occasionally they do slip up, but yes, lots of clever racists who have learned how to dodge moderation.

All you can do then is point it out. It's rarely worth arguing the toss with the perpetrator imo, as they're typically too far gone, but it is sometimes worth putting the argument for anyone else that might be reading.

itsmabeline · 06/08/2024 00:33

You're complaining about other people's racism while using racist terms. Pot, kettle.

i think it's obvious but I was explaining the difference between how people react. I didn't CALL someone by Karen.

but if one is ever to suggest this, you might be threatened with a ban. I personally don’t see how that’s reasonable but hey ho🤨

SnowmanInTheSun · 06/08/2024 01:09

I completely agree about those middle class, well-to-do closet racists who wouldn't dream about saying in real life what they say on here. They hide behind the anonymity of a username. I bet they're the beacons of equitable practice on diversity and inclusion in their workplaces.

Seeing a lot more people speaking up and calling it out lately which is the way it should be

I don't really go here much, it's got really weird over the last year or so? I'm worried the whole of the uk is very racist at the moment and it's scary.

It's not the whole of the UK
Just a very loud, vocal minority on social media who are all whipping each other up.

Dweetfidilove · 06/08/2024 01:51

People have been complaining about racism on MN for a long time. It's neither new nor surprising.

Just as the current riots are not shocking to those of us who have always been anxious about racism in Britain, while being told there is no such thing. Racism is as insidious and pervasive on MN as it is in society, so no surprises here.

Lavenderblossoms · 06/08/2024 02:13

I agree there are racists in a lot of ways. True racism is horrible and should not be tolerated. Generalisations about people are not great.

I also feel like the word racism is thrown around a lot at people who might disagree with what people are saying.

It's okay to be concerned about immigration and it's impact on services and impact on greenery, housing Etc.

It is NOT okay to abuse people on where they are from, call names or start riots in the name of being a thug. And being violent against the police.

And before anyone starts, no I'm not of that ilk or racist as I'm sure someone will say to me.

However I am someone that believes, as long as without violence or abuse, both sides are entitled to be heard. There are valid concerns on both sides. To reach a true understanding of each other, other than to slander and call names to others, just because you don't understand their point of view, is wrong in my eyes.

That goes for both sides. I'm sure some will think I am a fence sitter but when people are hurling insults at each other, the learning from debate is thrown out of the window.

Yes we get passionate, yes we feel deeply about it. However, in ignorance, nothing is learned. Assume nothing about no one and just listen to each other. Sometimes views can come from fear, from lack of education on the matter. Some are only surrounded by others like them in their echo chamber and don't take on other views.

A well rounded view, whether we agree or not, is to talk things through like adults without mud slinging. We learn through empathy and trying to understand where it comes from and why. Only then can true change happen.

That's what we don't have. Understanding. We think asking about heritage or ruining someone is black is bad, my kids now think this is racist, which is could be but they should be able to ask and talk about anyone's culture and why people are different colours etc because it's just life now but you can't ask anything now because it will offend people somehow x

There's no secret about it. Plenty of them genuinely think calling a racist a Karen is worse than racism.

Sorry, but not sure what you're actually getting at here?
What's "telling?"
Why would you have a problem with people who are black having their own space to discuss their own issues?
Whether it be like minded people with experience of hair, or a "safe" space to discuss micro aggressions of racism they've experienced without people who are white chipping in to minimise/gaslight and tell them they're wrong, it's just banter or wasn't meant like that?!
Do you criticise the Irish or the Scottish board the same?
If not, why not?
