Obviously I don’t know but I do have lipoma that is similar to that. Won’t stop worrying and always best to have it thoroughly checked. Its more likely something innocuous than not.

spinningplates2024 · 13/08/2024 23:00

Sorry didn’t see your post. It is saying it seems like it’s not harmful and they are checking whether it’s a lipoma or caused by something else. And then they are explaining what they are looking at. It doesn’t have an answer but she seems to say she could follow up quickly if it was needed. Hope that helps a bit. I’m not a doctor but I work with them.

my6 · 13/08/2024 23:03

Indeterminate means they have not exactly established what it is but they do think its likely nothing of concern which is reassuring. Interval follow up means they will monitor it short term.

my6 · 13/08/2024 23:05

Benign appearing, so they don't think its anything serious or harmful as pp said.

PinotPony · 13/08/2024 23:08

It's saying that the ultrasound was performed to check for lipoma or any other condition.

The result is inconclusive but it appears to be benign (non-cancerous). It doesn't look like an enlarged lymph node (where you'd typically get lymphoma cancer)).

They recommend keeping an eye on it in the short term.

lovemetomybones · 13/08/2024 23:14

The notes suggest that the appearance of the lump is benign, meaning non cancerous, they have done two tests to determine this. It doesn't have the shape of a cancerous lump.

I know how frightening it can be, my daughter had a solid lump the size of a golf ball on her right knee. I was terrified. But the doctor reassured me that the chances of it being cancerous were slim. From the xray, and following biopsy it was determined benign. She had it removed but was told it could grow back.

The lump on your son's back looks soft (great sign), according to the doctor who examined him it doesn't have a shape of a cancerous node. They will check to be 100% certain, but the chances are it's a lipoma. Which may need draining or removing and none life threatening x

Mumsnet can be so great.
Reassuring a worried mum at night.
Try not to worry OP. X

Pussycat22 · 13/08/2024 23:29

Theatre nurse here, no use surmising in what it could be. Wait until you have seen the Doctor/Consultant to put your mind at rest. Don't take the advice or opinions of anyone else other than your medical team.x

My sister had one.
My Nana told her to hit it with a Bible.
Nana was born in 1889, so she had a lot of “medical advice.”
Doctor removed it, it was nothing, just a bunch of fatty stuff.
Deep breaths, @kaylacheyenne.
Hit it with a Bible.

Sounds like she confused it with a ganglion! Very common remedy for a ganglion was hitting it with a bible, usually because that was the biggest heaviest book in the home. Its basically a cyst under the skin on the hand and it was to try and make it pop. Sounds worse than leaving the cyst alone to me!

I am not a doctor but I would still heavily advise against hitting a cyst with anything.
Just for the record.
If for no other reason but because you do not know if it is inflamed and if it will burst inwards, leaving your body filled with bacteria.

sandyhappypeople · 14/08/2024 00:14

What does it say under 'FINDINGS:' at the bottom of your screen shot op? is there anything there?

I quite agree, but given that there was no state funded medical care at the time that this would have been touted as a remedy, its one of those old wives tales that hung on as it would have appeared to "work".

Please don't hit it with a bible!! That was old wives tale for a ganglion not a lipoma. It sometimes burst the ganglion to hit it with something heavy. No need with modern medicine! I have multiple lipomas on my arms.I had 2 taken out as causing me pain in my wrist.

DON'T hit it FFS! What a daft thing to do.

For a start, that old remedy was for ganglions. They're cysts full of fluid or gel so they can burst and it can reabsorb. This is NOT a ganglion, it's probably, as others are suggesting, a lipoma, which is different. You can cause an infection if you bash anything so it bursts internally, as well as lots of soft tissue damage, and possibly other damage, this is the spinal area! And it'll hurt. Fucksake, who suggests hitting a toddler's spine with a heavy book? Angry

Grin sorry Ihavesomeideas I didn't read the comments to the end. I see we are both coming from the same place.

PyongyangKipperbang · 14/08/2024 01:42

I dont think that anyone was seriously suggesting belting a toddlers spine with a heavy book.

Oh are you in the USA OP?

In summary, based on the ultrasound they think its benign (rather than a cancer, which is good), they don't think its a lymph node but they aren't exactly sure what it is and it's in a layer of the skin. They end by saying that the Dr who ordered the ultrasound might want to repeat the test again after an interval of time to see if it changes.

This post made me laugh out loud!🤣

Fraaahnces · 14/08/2024 02:31

It basically says “It’s either a lipoma or lymph node”. Don’t panic.

Got a sore throat? Hit it with a Bible.
Headache? Hit it with a Bible.
Sore knee? Get that Bible out.
Hangnail gotcha down? Hit it with a Bible.
Broken ankle? Grab that Bible!

My Nana said so lol

NewlifeTry · 14/08/2024 07:00

@kaylacheyenne what does the narrative say under ultrasound exam as this is cut off in your photo

crackfoxy · 14/08/2024 07:05

Lipoma.

JollyJunee · 14/08/2024 07:35

Yes, what does it say under ‘Findings’ OP, you’ve cut off at that point.

Beth216 · 14/08/2024 07:55

I had a lipoma removed from my leg, looked exactly like that OP.
