Would you play the recorder at 8am on a Sunday?

If you're not detached, it's warm and everyone has their windows open?

It's Ann annoying sound at the best of times, but really, it's 8am on Sunday!!!!!!

AIBU to feel fuming with my neighbours?

I'm sure their son is over 15, so this isn't a case of a toddler that's been up since dawn and this feels like the middle of the day to them.

I don't know how to set up the vote sorry so answers welcomed!

How loud can it possibly be?

sunsetsandboardwalks · 04/08/2024 08:07

No - it's way too early!

HMTheQueenMuffin · 04/08/2024 08:08

No. Definitely not.

Pottedpalm · 04/08/2024 08:08

I’m amazed at a 15 year old playing a recorder! Is he good? If so, I would be happy.

AgnesX · 04/08/2024 08:08

There'll be badly played recorders in hell.

Given that you can't get teens out of bed in the morning does this child have SEN ?

Jifmicroliquid · 04/08/2024 08:09

Recorders are one of the worst instruments ever made. YANBU.

Headingtowardsdivorce · 04/08/2024 08:10

No, I would not, it's far too early.

BCBird · 04/08/2024 08:11

I would be annoyed. I remember once telling someone I dud not hoover before 10 on a Sunday as I was conscious that was the onli day my neighbour hot yo lie in. The person I was speaking too looked at me in disbelief.

Spectre8 · 04/08/2024 08:11

No thats too early, I had mine tearing apart a toilet once at 7am I mean ffs people common sense!!!

ButterCrackers · 04/08/2024 08:12

Ask them to close the windows next time. Say how good it is that he plays a musical instrument. Perhaps he needs to practice for church as it’s a Sunday?

LlynTegid · 04/08/2024 08:12

I'd be forgiving if the person playing was the 1% for whom it sounds beautiful. Very unlikely.

Speak to the family later today.

SuperPandaMakesARunForIt · 04/08/2024 08:13

That's not an unreasonable time to play an instrument. Would you be upset if it was an instrument that you liked? I'm impressed that he's up at that time and is already practising.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 04/08/2024 08:14

I would go round as ask if they have heard an injured cat wailing in the area, as it seems to be coming from their house.

muddyford · 04/08/2024 08:15

I would if I had been woken in the wee small hours by the neighbours falling out of a taxi and talking loudly. Otherwise no.

UtterlyOtterly · 04/08/2024 08:17

A 15 year old may well be of a very high musical standard. People who malign the recorder either have never heard one played properly, to professional standard, or are just very unmusical.

Having said that, it all depends on the circumstances. Our next door neighbours left over an hour ago to get to their sporting activities, our opposite neighbours are also up and about outside.

If you are certain your neighbours are having a lie in or might be asleep then any excessive noise, musical or otherwise, might be inconsiderate.

miniaturepixieonacid · 04/08/2024 08:19

A recorder? Yes. It wouldn't occur to me that that instrument was loud enough to disturb anyone in another house. I'd be mortified when I found out it had though and wouldn't do it again.

It's in the next room just behind the wall and all windows are open / although even window closed the noise is coming through the wall more.

I'm the same, hoover, mowing lawn, general bashing about does not happen before 10am on a Sunday.

Not church people. Different religion.

If it was a well played piano then quite honestly no I wouldn't mind.

I like the drums but wouldn't be happy about that one either.

After being forced to play the recorder for 4 years, I don't think anyone should play the damn things and the machines which make them should be repurposed into something more useful.
Ok, a bit extreme, but I share your pain OP.

It sounds like it's being playing inside our house.
