To think that this is mockery of the highest level.

In a country of food banks and poverty a well know department store has opened a shop selling fake food as toys. It's sold out and people are paying £50 for a chip with a cute smile.

AIBU that we have lost touch with reality l? Consumerism gone mad?!

I think I’m going to have to investigate them further, for my office!

I can't afford to spend on them, but it's OK to put them on my Christmas list, right?😁

@shuggles
The point is these morons with more money than sense buy stupid shit that nobody would or should ever need which I feel is the demand for the absurd supply at that level.

Not the most relevant point I agree it just riles me.

I've never heard of jelly cat but it sounds bloody facile.

I'm not googling it.

Whaleandsnail6 · 05/08/2024 19:10

I dont think these two things are particularly related. Unless you have an issue with anyone buying anything none essential whilst we have fooodbanks and homelessness in this country?

Do you have the same issue with kids playhouses? After all, there is homeless people when people are buying pretend houses. Or kids doctors and nurses kits? After all people cant get doctors appointments. Or spending money on anything that a luxury or a treat? Dont buy the expensive wine or ice-cream, after all there are people who cant afford essential food?

I just dont understand your thinking and why you are particularly offended by these soft toys.

You don't know what you're missing. Bloody cute is what they are. Been around since my kids were babies and they're mid-20s.

My dd brought a massive jellycat bunny for close to £100. She also wears £2.50 Nike Airs from Vinted and I worked for minium wage as a teen in a factory lifting 25kg bags of veg. Just because we are / was relatively poor doesn't mean we can't ever have some nicer end random shit. That bunny will be treasured forever.

This is another race to the bottom posts.

Don't buy toy food as someone can't buy real food.
Don't moan about the food bank economy beans as some countries don't have food banks.
Don't moan that you don't have a food bank as people are living in famine.
Don't moan about your famine as you could be dead
Don't moan about being dead as some spetm and eggs never get fertilised
Dont moan about being a unfertilised sex cell as you could be a iron atom would has been a rock for the age of universe
Don't moan about that as you could just be a neutron

Won't someone think of the neutrons!!

I hope everyone who is outraged about this doesn't have more than one pair of footwear. That rubs in the face of shoeless people. By not buying any more shoes, it directly helps the shoeless. Fact. Like boycotting Jelltcat directly feeds the poor. That's how it works don't ya know.

🤣🤣🤣fucking classic🤣🤣🤣

A smiling potatoe chip toy @ £50 is a bat shit idea to me and probably to lots of people.

But the arguments you have built up around this are simplistic nonsense.

Most consumption in developed countries is unecessary. But it has brought about economic growth which has lifted millions of people out of poverty. Even the most mindless consumption creates wealth and jobs for someone.

This thread is mad.

People who buy Jellycat stuff can afford it, and get a lot of pleasure from it.

My friend's daughter is ND has has loads of Jellycat toys. They help regulate her, and make her happy.

I just bought a plushie xenomorph. It makes me happy, and has cheered me up through a shite time. Judge away.

I agree with you! I really want to buy a smiling potato chip now - because it makes me smile!

God there are some misery guts out there!
