If the IBA tests can’t be relied on, why didn’t the IOC do their own tests?
I do think this is a different and much more complicated question than trans sport. But fundamentally, no one has an absolute right to be a professional athlete, and especially not when their participation potentially endangers others. Doctors who identify the DSD should be the ones to determine whether the specific difference is such that it should preclude competing in women’s sport or not. As I understand it, many DSD are extremely minor and make no discernible difference to athletic ability, while others are much more substantial, taking the person well out of the normal range for women. Of course, the latter are more likely to pursue competitive sport, but are also the ones who need to be assessed more carefully.
I think there are cases where a person will simply need to be told that they are not eligible to compete, because of their specific DSD. It’s not anyone’s fault, but it is necessary to ensure fair, safe and competitive sport for women can continue.
