Apologies if already mentioned but as if the boxing was not bad enough, in the news today there was a photo of a very very large man who 'identifies as non-binary' doing I think shot put - guess what category he was in? I fucking despair.

She's a woman.

Are you sure about that? Athletics have much more sensible rules.

BeyondOlympicLevelProcrastinator · 09/08/2024 18:16

Raven Saunders - she was an out lesbian until fairly recently

Garlicfest · 09/08/2024 18:20

Looking at "them" - as far as possible in the costume - and noting that Raven Saunders is 5'5", I suspect Raven Saunders is female. Wonder if she's allowed to take T as part of her genderiness? As PP said, World Athletics rules apply and I believe they're a tad more realistic.

Dunno how realistic, though ...

Telegraph article (jailbroken) with good photo.

When Semenya is headlined in articles saying ‘my testes don’t make me less of a woman’ and people support this in sport without question and demonise anyone who does, we know that something is very wrong.

He's right, he can't be less, not more, of something he isn't and never damn well was in the first place.

I am aghast at what this is doing to the prospects of girls going in for sports, wanting to take up sports, be sporty. Sport and exercise is SO important, just moving can be the difference between a healthy and an unhealthy old age.

In 1971, women tennis players broke away and set up their own separate tour when they were being offered joke money compared to the men. Why does this not happen again? If I were anywhere near the top of any sport, I would be proud to win a medal in the "XX Olympics", even if it meant no sponsorship or TV or any other deals.

Come on, women, like Martina Navratilova, Sharron Davies, JK Rowling! I refuse to believe that women are not smarter than men and cannot outfox those pathetic specimens at the IOC and those responsible for the "edgy" (translation: complete yawnfest) drag queens being "dragged" into every ceremony or new item on earth. All it needs is a tiny breakaway event and it will soon catch attention and crowdfunding -- and no one will want to go back and watch a pathetic man punch a woman or an ugly "drag queen" waddle about a stage.

SinnerBoy · 09/08/2024 19:45

Edited

Pride won't pay the food bill, the hotel bill, at any competition, the coaches bills.
Top Athletes are all full-time, sponsored individuals, the sponsors aren't going to sponsor them to appear in breakaway competitions without TV exposure. And where would the appearance and prize money come from?

We are in a different place to 1971.

This is going too far. Going around scanning all the Olympics for women that do not look like a woman.
Quite a few will not like your typical average female, because all the years on intense training to build those muscles.
The Olympic commitee has messed up by not clarifying properly the acceptance of the boxers in the women category by re-testting, in depth, or checking their previous medical notes. They should do, for all sports. Have clear guidelines for athletes with DSD.
Which is the point of pointing at women and saying they are not females?
Federations and athletes should point at the games organisers and say let's sort this.

MushMonster · 10/08/2024 13:14

Look like, it should say

Jumpingthruhoops · 10/08/2024 13:19

Ladyzfactor · 03/08/2024 11:10

The boxer that everyone is upset about isn't a man. They are intersex. Completely different. They are not, and have never been trans, or male. They were born biologically with female genitalia. They do tend to have more testosterone., but not much else different. But mumsnet loves to get upset over trans issues so I'm not surprised about the misinformation.

They are intersex. Correct.
Biologically, they can knock nine bells out of shit out of a non-intersex woman. Also correct.
So you should probably hold up on claiming 'misinformation'.

MushMonster · 10/08/2024 13:42

@Jumpingthruhoops the information we have so far points to intersex indeed.
But with that hint by the AWC ( I believe that is the name..) we do not know yet if Khalif has an unfair advantage over her competitors. Further testing would be needed. AWC tested, but they cannot release the results of the tests, Olympic commitee does not accept them, and so we do not really know what they tested for, how and the results.
Someone can be XY, but be missing a gene in the Y chromosome, or have total insensitivity to androgens, including testosterone. Only a very specialised professional team can really assess this.
I really thought that medical history, notes and tests would be done by organisations and country federations, other than the AWC, as the athletes have been competing in the women category for a while. And those clashed with the AWC. But it looks like boxing is in a mess and they are not applying the same controls as other sports, which is quite a shock, as they are going to literally hit each other.
This is not the first time athletes with intersex/ DSDs are in the spot. It is not an easy straight forward matter. Really to be addressed early, clarified, for everyone's sake.

cathyandclaire · 10/08/2024 15:51

Sorry @MushMonster - I've missed this- what's AWC? African women's championship? Have they got involved?

MushMonster · 10/08/2024 16:02

Not sorry, that was meant to be International Boxing association world championships. I just got the last three initials, instead of the 3 first ones, because I am that silly!

TheKeatingFive · 10/08/2024 16:09

The IBA testing did explicitly conclude and state that however.

This has not been contracted or appealed by anyone. Not the competitors. Not the IOC. No measures have been taken to disprove it.

The only logical conclusion to the lack of appeals and disproof is that they are not able to disprove their cases, because of the insurmountable evidence.

MushMonster · 10/08/2024 17:34

We cannot say without a shadow of a doubt till the full testing is done. Which they should do.
If not for these athletes, we really need a plan for the future. We will come across this very same issue time and time again.
It is not fair on the athletes. It taints the Olympics and their sport.
They need to sort it.
It is also a good opportunity to educate people on the existance of individuals whose sex is not as straight forward as having a look at birth. Their issues growing up, which for some of them includes surgeries, sterilisation, without need or consent, in some cases. Pushing this idea that they have to look male or female on their frightened parents. And a lot of silence and shame.

Well the testing has been done - more than once - it's just that you refuse to accept it.

Regardless. Where we are now is that the IOC won't do it. And we all deep down know why. So where do we go from here?

MushMonster · 10/08/2024 18:43

The IBA performed the tests and given they were banned because of concerns about corruption I don't think their word carries any weight. Why should the boxers undergo testing that no other female athlete has to undergo because of Russian led corrupt organisation.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 10/08/2024 20:58

@wombat15

Yawn. The labs are WADA and CAS certified. The IBA, WBO and EBC accept the results and say they are male. They didn't appeal even though the IBA would have paid for the appeal so the result is legally binding.

The Russian nonsense has been thoroughly debunked. Away with you.

grannysbay · 10/08/2024 22:13

@MushMonster The tests were done by two independent labs, both certified including by CAP (American). These are both reputable, highly successful businesses. There would be no logic to these labs both deciding to jeopardise their futures to 'fake' results - even if the IBA asked them to. Both labs agreed to their details being released to the press.
