to think these people in Sunderland are not "protesting".

They are not protestors. They are not protesting. They are common or garden thugs and criminals who are causing criminal damage, setting police offices on fire and attacking police officers.

Total scumbags.

Rioting shitbags.

I hope every single one of them takes a brick to the plums.

It’s not difficult to understand why the riots are happening.

We are in the middle of a COL crisis. People are short of money. Hospital waiting lists are longer than ever. Schools are underfunded. Public services are being cut.

People see the immigration figures, the asylum seekers being housed in hotels, the statistics of the small boats arriving - and they instinctively think “hang on, if there weren’t so many people sharing this pie, I might get a bigger piece”. That thought is at the back of their mind all the time.

Then an atrocity is committed, and it’s by someone with a non-English name and dark skin, and they immediately connect the 2 issues. And they feel angry, and decide to riot.

I’m not justifying it at all, but it’s not hard to see how and why it happens.

German people were struggling, and Hitler used that fact to get normal people to turn on their neighbours.

When people feel short-changed, they get angry and they want someone to blame.

There are riots because a bunch of racist thugs have used the tragic murder of three little girls as an excuse for violence, mayhem and vandalism. These people are not looking at any NHS waiting times or public service cuts. Hell they aren't even looking at the immigration figures. They are just racist cunts using someone else's tragic loss to suit their agenda.

Did I say that?

My City, too... It's had riots before, but I just don't understand it.. What is the point? Looting? Just for the sheer ''Fun'' of it?

It's almost always men.

Of course it’s pretty much always men. If they wanted to protest about anything it should be about male violence but these violent thugs wouldn’t get the irony.

@oakleaffy and @spikeandbuffy after seeing what’s happened in my city tonight I’d stay as far away from the area as possible.

PeapodRas · 03/08/2024 00:17

These are actual hate marches, someone needs to tell Suella

EmeraldRoulette · 03/08/2024 00:18

@Wishfulthinking1977 reports coming up where please? I know TV channels can be horribly misleading too.

im probably over sensitive as a woman of colour who has seen a huge increase in racism on MN this week. I’m proud and happy to be British but this stuff is unnerving for all - but also makes me worry how many people wish I wasn’t here and want my ancestors never to have been here, regardless of how far we date back and having been fully integrated and happy here.

I now live where I grew up, a very white part of Essex. It’s always been great. I just hope this doesn’t spoil that. I’m glad I’m not in London anymore but I wonder if the rioters are avoiding it and think the police are too well prepared and now looking to go countrywide to increase impact.

Here's a list of towns being rioted in over the weekend. It seems more comprehensive than the other ones I've seen on this thread

So short of money because they are sat at home on benefits then breed the next generation to do the same and have no intelligence to do any different?

Food for the soul, if ever I saw it!

EmeraldRoulette · 03/08/2024 00:22

@Wishfulthinking1977 just saw your edit. Yes, he did say that. But if peaceful protesters were upset about that, the correct response would not be rioting? It would be a peaceful protest, surely.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 03/08/2024 00:22

Something else that's just occurred to me is the drip drip drip of poison in the ears of disenfranchised men from "the manosphere" on social media. It's been dismissed as a minority thing fir a very long time, but actually the perceived "erosion" of men's rights has been brewing for a long time. Not difficult to weaponise it in a situation like this on top of all the other "grievances" engineered by governments in recent years.

I'm really sorry you are feeling that way! My husband and children are mixed race. From what I am seeing ( probably very limited as I'm rural) is that is not a racial subject? It does seem very religious?! I'm very limited in my knowledge, I was just trying to add a perspective! Hope you stay safe and well xx

Echobelly · 02/08/2024 22:44

Yup, they're just finding an excuse to be racist and fight with police. None of them give a fuck about women and children and I'll bet plenty of them are abusers

At least 80% will have have kids they can't/ don't see "cause she's a nutter that turned them against me"

A volunteer clean up operation is being organised for tomorrow if anyone is local and wants to help.

Locals are meeting at The Peacock at 8am if anyone wants to join us. Bring brushes and bin bags!

The army should transport and supervise those who have been arrested so far to clean it up, every time it happens, on their hands and knees with small dustpans and brushes, no gloves, no dust masks.

Unfortunately brown or black skin seems to equal Muslim in the eyes of a rioter. An Asian taxi driver driving through the city was set upon tonight for no other reason than he’s not white.

ohfook · 03/08/2024 00:38

I love Sunderland. It's a fab city that for some reason gets a bad press. I used to live there many years ago and there's always been a very small but vocal racist element to the city, but I think that often happens in areas of deprivation. However the organised clean up mentioned by a previous poster is far more representative of the Sunderland I know than a load of cunts destroying the city.

The mackem's I know are a friendly and creative bunch and all take great pride in their city. I've already heard from a few friends from their and they're horrified at what is happening and worried about the people being targeted.

So how do you explain racism and hate that these people have always had before this ‘extreme’ immigration problem of more recent times?

I have always wondered why the western world is fascinated with ‘others’ to the point of constantly doing studies on minorities in the country and the global world. What is it about Black skin that fascinates? Even BBC Africa has a slanted western view on the continent. I have never come across studies being done on why some white people are so hateful against others who are a different colour to them? It pounders my mind as a Black woman that maybe they're just inherently racist/brain-damaged?

How can you live life filled with so much hate and making your life so much smaller especially when the world is interconnected by the touch of a keystroke. Imagine missing on what the world/differences can enrich your life? Why can't the brains/psycs of such hateful people be studied properly? It can't just be IMMAGRATION!

Rioting {''Protesting''} is planned for our nearest large city, too....
I can foresee looting and the police station being smashed up.. Hot, humid weather..Hopefully it will pour down and keep the thugs at home.

We definitely do need water cannon here...why aren't they allowed?
A sousing to cool their sweaty nuts off.

Liverpool tonight where a protest was organised outside a mosque - the locals turned out in counter protest.
Ultimately racism turns in on itself - I always think back to This is England film of the mid 1980s and hold the belief that most people are better than this.
agree whole heartedly with media needing to stop using the word protestors as it legitimises the whole ugly business

to think these people in Sunderland are not "protesting".

Apparently, Sheffield on Sunday, I'm worried sick because ds is going on a trip with Young Carers as a leader & they are meeting & coming back to the City Centre.
