to think these people in Sunderland are not "protesting".

They are not protestors. They are not protesting. They are common or garden thugs and criminals who are causing criminal damage, setting police offices on fire and attacking police officers.

Total scumbags.

Unfortunately starmers speech apparently stoked a massive fire! The original peaceful protest did get hijacked but his comments and 'threats' were construed as causing a division and has spread throughout social media calling for a 'stand against a police state' I'm certainly not agreeing with what's going on but this is what I'm seeing and from what I am seeing/reading it's going to get alot worse 😔

I really don't think you can pin this on Starmer. The riots started before his press conference.

Do you think this an acceptable reason to riot?

mommatoone · 02/08/2024 23:57

There was uproar a few weeks (rightly so) ago following the violence towards the police at Mcr Airport. Why,all of a sudden is this 'riot/protest' acceptable? Attacks on police, police cars and now police buildings.50 officers injured during the last 'rent a mob' turn out, as well as Poilce dogs. Tanked up dickheads following the crowd. Its fuckin embarrassing.

Lampzade · 02/08/2024 23:57

All the posters who sympathise or understand the rioters point of view better hope their friends or loved ones don’t get caught up in this .

PandoraSox · 02/08/2024 23:58

I still want to know about "getting our country back"! What does it actually mean? No one seems to know,

It means fuck all

ContactNightmare · 02/08/2024 23:59

It just means it’s white people only. End

EmeraldRoulette · 02/08/2024 23:59

@Wishfulthinking1977 I watched it over and I don’t think it can be that. This is pre planned and I don’t think he could have said anything to defuse it.

I’ve no opinion on Starmer, he’s only been in power five minutes, so not like I’m a fan of his.

@MistressoftheDarkSide sleeper cell was my first thought too. This is too well coordinated. And the excuse they’ve latched on is so appalling, they’ve been waiting for something, anything to unleash this.

Wishfulthinking1977 · 03/08/2024 00:00

Apologies obviously I got it wrong! I was going on what I had seen/ read in social media that was causing these issues! I'll back out as I was trying to work out why it was going this way but apparently others know better.

The Peasants are Revolting.

cakeorwine · 03/08/2024 00:02

We have many people in this country who "aren't white" in their ethnicity. Many who were born here. Many who emigrated here - and indeed were encouraged to emigrate here.

We have a wide range of faiths here.

It seems to me that some of these rioters won't be happy unless we had a white country. Seeing as how they attack mosques, they attack people who "look foreign".

Do they want everyone who's not white to just leave? Even those who were born here.

What does "get our country back" even look like? We are a diverse country with many people who either were encouraged to emigrate here or who are the children or grandchildren of people who emigrated here. Which makes this country their country as well

Cathod · 03/08/2024 00:02

Where are the army in all this?

I disagree with you that multiculturalism isn’t working but the stupid thing is, we have a low level of immigrants in Sunderland. I don’t remember a single non-white child in my large comprehensive and there aren’t many now in my kids’ school. A sizeable minority are unhappy with their lot in life and they’ve seized on ‘foreigners’ as the reason.

Edit: when I say foreigners I mean non-white, particularly Asian ‘foreigners’ who automatically equal Muslim.

mommatoone · 03/08/2024 00:03

There was some recent footage in Manchester whereby groups of yobs donned their finest England flags left over from the Euros and preceded to , well ' kick off' outside a hotel where migrants are housed. It was just basically an excuse for the local chavs to join forces on a quiet Wednesday evening. Disgraceful

MistressoftheDarkSide · 03/08/2024 00:04

The speed and scale of all this is rather unprecedented. The seeds of division in every area of society have been sown for a very long time. From a purely objective point of view we've got civil unrest and there will be a natural uptick in conspiratorial thinking because we "need" some sort of answer and it's very difficult to see relatively sudden unrest in so many areas at once.

Some people will demand "heavy handed authoritarianism" as we saw during lockdown, and others will want appeasement and a softer approach. Alot, I think, like myself are going "Oh feck" because it seems the genie is out of the bottle and every solution will come with some unintended consequences.

Honestly I really don't know what to think anymore beyond the strong urge to go out and knock the idiots heads together which is also unhelpful. But here we are, buttons being pushed in every direction.

Edingril · 03/08/2024 00:05

Mind you this is a rhetorical question but don't these poor misunderstood rioters have jobs to go to?

Or beer bottles to smash over their own heads before they grab their car keys, phone and shout 'just going out to get me some action'

This is actually what I was complaining about with the dubious Twitter accounts

blaming him for something he said when you didn’t hear what he said is mad, but in many cases this is what is being used to fan flames. That’s why I went back and listened again. You don’t believe newspaper headlines I hope.

MumblesParty · 03/08/2024 00:08

It’s not difficult to understand why the riots are happening.

We are in the middle of a COL crisis. People are short of money. Hospital waiting lists are longer than ever. Schools are underfunded. Public services are being cut.

People see the immigration figures, the asylum seekers being housed in hotels, the statistics of the small boats arriving - and they instinctively think “hang on, if there weren’t so many people sharing this pie, I might get a bigger piece”. That thought is at the back of their mind all the time.

Then an atrocity is committed, and it’s by someone with a non-English name and dark skin, and they immediately connect the 2 issues. And they feel angry, and decide to riot.

I’m not justifying it at all, but it’s not hard to see how and why it happens.

German people were struggling, and Hitler used that fact to get normal people to turn on their neighbours.

When people feel short-changed, they get angry and they want someone to blame.

Great post. Some of these people will be the same ones who have work friends / acquaintances from different ethnic backgrounds and they wouldn't say a word to them. But,stick them with a load of dickheads on a Friday night and it's game on. Hypocrites.

TheHateIsNotGood · 03/08/2024 00:09

What the white yobbos need is a bit of aspiration and something to aspire to like some local industry that might produce something.

Stops them from getting bored and doing a bit of rioting.

No don't really read the news and don't have twitter! It was more of reports that came up and I suppose reactions I saw?!I did watch his statement though! He did seem very ' it's all far right?' which is a bit inflammatory?!

cakeorwine · 03/08/2024 00:10

Loads of rhetoric about stopping the boats. The language being used about people coming over. All the headlines.

Then there was the horrendous events in Southport and the misinformation about the person on social media. People didn't stop to think. It just suited their narrative.

Social media fanning the flames.

It's easy to see how people can be radicalised.

Then something happens. They believe that it was a Muslim and an asylum seeker. And that's all you need.

My city listed for tomorrow and I'm due to go and get my new glasses...

My City, too... It's had riots before, but I just don't understand it.. What is the point? Looting? Just for the sheer ''Fun'' of it?

It's almost always men.
