It’s not difficult to understand why the riots are happening.
We are in the middle of a COL crisis. People are short of money. Hospital waiting lists are longer than ever. Schools are underfunded. Public services are being cut.
People see the immigration figures, the asylum seekers being housed in hotels, the statistics of the small boats arriving - and they instinctively think “hang on, if there weren’t so many people sharing this pie, I might get a bigger piece”. That thought is at the back of their mind all the time.
Then an atrocity is committed, and it’s by someone with a non-English name and dark skin, and they immediately connect the 2 issues. And they feel angry, and decide to riot.
I’m not justifying it at all, but it’s not hard to see how and why it happens.
German people were struggling, and Hitler used that fact to get normal people to turn on their neighbours.
When people feel short-changed, they get angry and they want someone to blame.
